The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has advised the state government to immediately dispose the “legacy jet A-600” aircraft and invest the money into refurbishing all abandoned primary and secondary schools.
The APC said the fund that will be realized could also help in the “resuscitation of the moribund primary healthcare system, pay off all outstanding salaries owed teachers of demonstration secondary schools and also wrongfully dismissed lecturers of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic”.
In a statement by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the APC said funds from the sale of the aircraft could also be used for the payment of the “five years salaries of RSSDA staff, payment of pensions, and gratuities, student’s bursaries and many more unresolved obligations of the state government”.
Darlington said there is “no economic benefit” from the private jet to the people of Rivers state when the world is facing an “economic meltdown”.
The statement also questioned where the state government will get fund to pay for “the landing cost of the aircraft, daily parking fee, navigational charges per flight, monthly salary for Pilot, engagement of a ground crew, maintenance engineers, cleaners, security, Maintenance, observation and repairs amongst other issues involved”.
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has hailed striker, Erling Haaland, branding him as the next Thierry Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Guardiola said this while reacting to Haaland’s display in Man City’s Premier League 2-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday.
Haaland, who joined Man City from Dortmund this summer, scored two goals to give the Premier League champions all three points against West Ham at the London Stadium.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola told Sky Sports: “We did not have any doubt that a guy who has scored goals since he was born, that he would score goals here.
“Kyle Walker was amazing today, I want to make a compliment for him but all of them. Everyone was really good.
“Haaland gives us his qualities. We aren’t going to change much. We will adapt, we know we’ve a threat there.
“He’s an incredible deep runner and finisher. He’s adapting perfectly in the way we want to play. We are going to find him more and more and hopefully, we can give him the opportunity to score more goals.
“Of course, he has talent, but one week ago [against Liverpool], when he missed the chance, he had people say he was a failure and that he would not adapt to the Premier League and everyone laughed at him. Now he’s going [to be the next] Thierry Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Takes time. It’s the first Premier League game, he has a long career. When he’s going to retire, hopefully, stay many years here, we’ll analyse what he has become.”

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a former Police Inspector, Richard Gele, caught in a viral video dignifying and justifying extortion of members of the public and official corruption which trended from July 25, 2022.
The former Inspector, with AP/No. 188547, was until his dismissal, attached to Police Mobile Force 77 Squadron, Okene, Kogi State, and deployed to the Itobe–Anyigba Road for the safety of road users and commuters. This was the route where the incident occurred.
The dismissed Inspector, who hails from Benue State, was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in September, 2000.
The officer has been de-kitted and handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State, for further necessary action.
His dismissal came after subjection to internal disciplinary mechanisms and being found wanting of the charges levelled against him in line with extant laws governing the conduct of police personnel.
His dismissal and de-kitting, however, implies that he, henceforth, ceases to be a member of the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP, Usman Baba, while expressing the commitment of his administration at bequeathing policing standards in tandem with international best practices to the nation, warned all personnel to eschew extortion, unprofessionalism, corruption and other inappropriate acts.
Additionally, he urged police officers across the nation to display exemplary courage and patriotism in the discharge of their duties.
Funmilayo Adebayo, a controversial Nigerian evangelist, popularly known as Mummy GO, has revealed that she was once a prostitute.
Mummy GO claimed that she even recruited girls into prostitution in Edo.
According to her, some of the girls she trained in prostitution are now claiming to be children of God, adding that they have taken the act to another level by displaying on social media and she is not happy at all.
She disclosed this in a video making the rounds online.
Mummy GO:“Yes, I was once a prostitute. I do it. I train girls. All the girls I trained in Edo state who are claiming to be children of God are doing it on social media and you want me to be happy.
“I am a mother of prostitution. I was. The same thing, same style I taught them to become a prostitute.”
Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has provided the latest update on the ongoing strike action in the university system, insisting that negotiations were ongoing between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Ministry of Education.
Ngige, however, warned that negotiating with ASUU without simultaneously doing so with the other university-based unions only delayed the strike as it would not achieve a quick resolution of the issues.
He also declared that Nigeria is broke and may be unable to finance its capital projects come 2023 if it fails to reduce the cost of government and remove fuel subsidies, among other actions.
Ngige stated this at a press briefing to commemorate the 2022 World Day Against Child Labour in Abuja on Thursday.
He said, “I can tell you that Nigeria is broke. There is no money to fund capital projects next year. As you can see, the dollar that has been hovering around N500 and N600 is now above N700.
The truth is that there is no money anywhere. The money that the FAAC (Federation Account Allocation Committee) has been sharing is money from taxes, customs, and other revenue-generating agencies.
“The National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) no longer remits money to FAAC. So, the situation calls for patriotism from all Nigerians. The lack of money to fund capital projects would have an implication on the capacity to create jobs. If jobs are not created, poverty will increase in the country.”
He added, “I have been Minister of Labour and Employment for seven years. Before, we negotiated with ASUU alone, which then suspended its strike. But NASU, SSANU and NAAT were on strike.
The non-teaching unions locked the classrooms and lecture theatres. They also shut down electricity and water supply to the universities, which almost led to outbreaks on those campuses.
“So, what I am saying is that negotiation with ASUU will not lead to the reopening of the universities. All of them must be involved in the negotiations.”
