You don't give the responsibility of a tiger to a sheep, just because the sheep is obedient, even worse when the sheep is not obedient. This is nepotism at the expense of competence, but I guess you consider it permissible because she is your wife.

There are conversations you should never engage in because you can predict the outcome from the beginning. And since you know about your wife's bad academic performance, never ran a business before and lack of skills, why have this discussion with her?

The business world is where all demons operate legally. It is not a place that tolerates incompetence. If you think the biggest robbers are those with guns or Yahoo boys, then you're not in business. If the business world sniff out weakness or incompetence from a manager, they will milk her to the bone.

This banter you're having with your wife will be nothing when real problems arise. You need someone sharp there. You may go ahead and tolerate the incompetence of your wife, but just know that the outside world will not, and that you bear the damages and loss. She knows she is covered and can never be punish like you'll do to an employee, after all, it's her husband business.

If you must help your wife, let her go get a job where she earns salary. Whats the point of winning the battle but loose the main war? What's the point of giving you the application letter you asked for, but she lacks the competence to run a business? Think man

Look, it is better to leave out sentiments in business if it must thrive, family or no family. That she is his wife doesn't and shouldn't grant her automatic entry into his business. That is how businesses collapse because everything from signing of unauthorized cheques and squandering of companys funds will become automatic.

Business is business! ( not family affair). So, normal protocols must be observed and every terms and condition of work properly documented for future reference. No stories.

Don't employ her. If she can refuse to do what you are telling her now, imagine when she now starts working. she'll never obey or take orders from you.

She's feeling entitled already because she's your wife which is a very bad sign she'll mismanage the business coupled with her unseriousness which is evident in her constant failing in school. I wonder why you involved her in the first place.

Get a neutral person you can manage and handle without any sentiments. Better for you that way. Let her go get a job outside where she'll dictate to her boss and see if they'll dance to her tune.

I see someone up there told you to employ your wife without an application. DON'T.

If you want to employ her, she must apply. And as someone else hinted up there, are you trying to force her to work for you? You shouldn't. A couple shouldn't even run the same business.

She is the one that says she will be in charge. I have employ a lady already and planning to employ another do that both of them can be managing it but my wife said she will be in charge and go to school anytime she has lecture.

You did well by attempting to legalize and document your business relationship with your. Many Nigerians take written agreements for granted and rely on word-of-mouth instead, and we all know how it ends.

That said, you aren't doing well by attempting to employ your wife. Even you have doubts about her, so why are you insistent on picking her for the job. Employ an outsider, pay them well, and make sure they deliver.

Whether you employ her or not, you're also responsible for your wife's upkeep, so don't dump your responsibility because she refused to work for you.

She is already planning to resume even when I have not formally inform her that she will be in charge. So I have to let her know that everything has to be formal and official.

Many people doing badly in business are better off learning a trade or doing business.

For now, let someone else manage the business till she can prove to you that she can do a good job of managing the business. When that time comes, don't make her write a letter.

Meanwhile, find out other things she's passionate about, school no be for everybody.

Thank you for your advice. I'm not stopping her studies. She will continue like that and probably graduate with pass or third class. It's just to monitor and handle managerial issues as I am so busy working with two Universities and running my PhD but I may employ another person if she refused to do the needful

I need your advice regarding this issue:
I set up a new business that cost me millions of naira and I told my wife to write application letter and submit to me so that I can employ her to manage the business, she refused. She said she will not write any application letter and will not collect any appointment letter from me to work in my establishment. She just want to be in charge of the business without any formal documents.

I have told her that I will employ another person if she did not want to pass through the process of formal employment. My wife is not working and she is in 300 Level in a Federal university. She is not serious with her studies, having carry overs every semester. I'm the one sponsoring her education.

I am thinking of informing her brother that if her sister did not write application letter and pass through formal employment procedures, I will employ another lady and will not be responsible for the social needs of my wife. I will only give her money for transportation to school and not for birthdays of her friends and the unnecessary visitations she always do to relatives houses.

I can't trust my wife with any of my businesses without formal documents. She may one day claim she is the owner.
