The Election Petition Tribuanl has ruled in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the March 9, 2019 governorship elections in Rivers state, Gov. Nyesom Wike.

Candidate of the Africa Action Congress(AAC), Biokpomabo Awara has Petitioned the Tribunal to declare him the rightful winner of the election on the grounds that he had already won the polls in several local government areas of the state before INEC suspended the process over alleged violence.

However, the Judge in his judgment struck out the petition for lacking merit. He said that Awara has failed to prove his claims beyond reasonable doubt, as such, struck out.

The Counsel to Governor Wike, Ferdinand Orbih (SAN) reacting to the judgment said “…judgment means that the victory of Governor has gotten judicial stamp.”

It is still not clear if Awara will appeal the judgment or not.

A Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu has suspended proceeding on the hearing of bail application by the council by Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Adebayo Bakare, Femi Falana (SAN).

The suspension comes shortly after taking arguments from both parties on the bail application.

Operatives of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KSIRS) has sealed the head office of the United Bank of Africa (UBA), located around the Hydro Junction, Lokoja.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the transfer of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. James Apam and the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari ahead of Kogi Governorship election slated to hold on November 16, 2019.

This was contained in a communique signed by Alhaji Abubakar Idris, the Lokoja LG party chairman at the end of the Lokoja LGA PDP stakeholders meeting.

The party passed a vote of confidence in the Nigeria Army (Records) Command and the DSS in Lokoja but warned against the deployment of Dr. Amina Zakari, INEC National Commissioner, to oversee the governorship poll in the state.

The Kaduna state government through the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, gave assurance that efforts are being made to free the six abducted students and staff of Engravers College, Kakau Daji in Chikun Local Government Area of the State.

The Statement reads;
“Governor Nasir El-Rufai has despatched a government delegation to sympathies with the school community and assure them that security agencies are working to rescue the abducted persons.



“The state government delegation was led by Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs.

“Accompanied by security agencies, the commissioner spoke to parents and staff of the school and assured them that every effort will be exerted to free the abductees and punish this brazen crime.

“The school management and the parents of the students will be given updates as appropriate.”

News9naija earlier reported that six students of Engraver’s College a private secondary school and their teachers in Kakau Daji Village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were on Thursday kidnapped by gunmen.

A statement released by the Public Relations Officer, DSS National Headquarters, Abuja, Dr Peter Afunaya, has debunked claims that Dr Chido Onumah was arrested in Abuja on Sunday.

The agency said Onumah was only engaged in an interaction during which an act of his capable of undermining public order and national security was explained to him.

"The Department of State Service (DSS) wishes to make clarifications regarding media reports that Dr Chido Onumah was arrested by the Service. To set the records right, Onumah was never arrested by the Service. He was rather engaged in an interaction during which an act of his capable of undermining public order and national security was explained to him.

On his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on 29th September, 2019, it was discovered that Onumah wore a T-shirt with WE ARE ALL BIAFRANS inscription on it.

With credible intelligence that he might be a subject of mob attack if allowed to go into town in same cloth, the Service invited him and drew his attention to the implications of his probable (un)intended action.

It was strongly believed that an attack on Onumah would have sparked ethno-religious reprisals with dire consequences for law and order and public safety in the country.

He understood the issues and pledged not to engage in activities that may cause disaffection in Abuja and the country at large.
He subsequently removed the cloth with the inciting symbols and inscriptions and agreed not to use it.

The interaction between Onumah and the Service held in a convivial atmosphere. He appreciated the courtesies extended to him. Afterwards, the Servcie arranged for him to go back to his accommodation in town.

It is hoped that this clarification has dispelled the erroneous claims and reportage that he was arrested. The Service acted within the confines of its mandate and only carried out its routine security duty that could have been discharged by a similar agency in any part of the world. It is not out of place for concerned security agencies to have sought clarification from a traveller concerning a subject of security interest.

The DSS reaffirms its avowed commitment to the rule of law and protection of citizens and national critical assets.

A commercial bus popularly called "luxurious" bus belonging to Anyakamkpa Ele Motors has been trapped in in mud along Enugu Onitsha federal high way due to the bad state of the road.

News9naija reports that passengers are currently stranded as efforts are being made to retrieve the vehicle from the mud filled pothole.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council on August 15, 2018 approved the augmentation of the cost of the rehabilitation of Enugu-Onitsha road by N5.4bn bringing the total repair budget to N15.7bn from N10.3bn.
