Former Super Eagles’ Chief Coach Samson Siasia on Wednesday in Abuja said he has appealed against the life ban slammed on him by world football governing body FIFA. Siasia told newsmen that his lawyers filed the appeal to FIFA on Aug. 27, while another appeal was filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Aug. 29. He however denied any involvement in any illegal act, such as match-fixing, saying he was well aware they are contrary to the ethics of the football sport. “I wish to state that I have never been and would never be a party to any form of unethical conduct or perversion in the discharge of my duties in any capacity. “I built my career in the football industry on the foundation of hard work, integrity, consistency and God. “In all my career, I have done nothing but serve my country and clubs to the best of my personal and professional ability, with all my strength and might, with discipline, pride and passion and an awareness that it is a privilege to be an ambassador of our great nation. “It is my greatest hope and belief that my country also stands by and with me at a time like this,” the former Super Eagles forward said. The former player of French side Nantes and KSC Lokeren in Belgium said the entire proceedings and decision were only brought to his notice on Aug. 16. “That was when the news broke in the public domain and friends and family started to call. I was totally unaware of the proceedings until I heard about FIFA’s decision. “While I may not be able to publicly divulge the details and specifics, of the appeal, I think it fit to inform you that I have appealed against FIFA’s Decision and you all will probably hear the results like you heard about the ban. “I am currently taking legal advice. My lawyer, Austin Otah, has been liaising with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and its counsel,” he said. Siasia who also played for Nigeria at the youth level then exptessed his gratitude to all Nigerians. “I thank everyone who has supported me in one way or the other. I must state that this is the most trying period of my life. “I am still dealing with the pains and challenges of my mother being kidnapped again and fighting to secure her release. “I urge the nation to support me with prayers, goodwill and support of all kind. The demands are very heavy,” he said, struggling to control a surge of emotions. Otah also reacted on the appeal. “We have actually assisted Siasia to file his appeal and we are awaiting FIFA to acknowledge the receipt of the appeal. We are awaiting feedback from FIFA and CAS. “The FIFA decision requires Siasia to appeal to CAS. We are exploring an internal appeal mechanism, and this will exceptionally be with the Appeal Committee of FIFA. “But, that notwithstanding, we are still to ensure that his appeal rights are not impeded in anyway”, Otah disclosed. Senator Dino Melaye has registered his displeasure with results of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Kogi. He described the results of the contest in which he participated as “totally unacceptable.” The Kogi West Senator took to his Twitter page to express dissatisfaction with the conduct and the outcome of the exercise. He said: “It is ridiculous to declare a final result of PDP Governorship primary election in Kogi State when my votes sorted out yesterday in 8 out of 10 ballot boxes are missing. “Only to declare votes in 2 out of 10 ballot boxes as my votes. Totally unacceptable.” Senator Dino Melaye lost the Governorship election ticket to Engr. Musa Wada, who emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the November 16 governorship election. Musa Wada, a younger brother of the immediate past Governor Idris Wada, who also contested for the ticket, scored 748 votes to clinch the party ticket. Senator Dino Melaye polled 70 votes to emerge fourth. https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2019/09/04/results-of-kogi-pdp-primary-totally-unacceptable-dino-melaye/

THE Abuja Zonal Office of the — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of two of the 77 Nigerians on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) wanted list in the United States (U.S.). A list of suspects was released last month. Those on the list were implicated in a massive conspiracy to steal millions of dollars through a variety of fraud schemes. The two suspects- Chika Augustine and Godspower Nwachukwu – were arrested in Abuja, the EFCC said. Augustine is number 21 on the FBI list. The only Nwachukwu on the list, has other local names. Also, the zonal office has made 293 arrests with over 465 cases being investigated. The breakthrough was announced by the new Zonal Head, Mr. Aminu Ado Aliyu, at a news conference in Abuja against the backdrop of manhunt for the suspects who are mostly in the country. Aliyu said $35,000 has been recovered from Augustine. He also claimed that another suspect, who had long been on the FBI radar, was picked up in November last year, investigated and ready for trial. Asked if the suspects on FBI list would be extradited, Aliyu added: “This decision is between the EFCC headquarters and FBI.” A 252-count federal grand jury indictment unsealed in August charged 77 Nigerian nationals with participating in a massive conspiracy to steal millions of dollars through a variety of fraud schemes and launder the funds through a Los Angeles-based money laundering network as uncovered by the FBI. Apart from the arrest of FBI suspects, the Zonal Head said EFCC has made 293 arrests and secured 33 convictions. He said that over 465 cases are currently under investigations with recovered funds from January to August 2019 at N423, 006,987.92; $39,253 and €2330. Aliyu said: “Under my leadership, the zone has stayed focused on the Commission’s vision and goal to ensure that we fight corruption to the end. In line with that and in accordance with the Acting Chairman’s mission, the zone has strategised plans aimed at preventing, investigating and prosecuting financial and economic crimes. I make bold to say that this has yielded fruitful results. “From January 2019 till date, our relentless anti-corruption stance saw us secure 33 convictions. We currently carry out collaborative operations with other zones and it has resulted to about 293 arrests and over 465 cases are currently under investigations. Of these arrests and investigations, 90 arrests were made mostly through intelligence gathering, 21 convictions were secured by the Cyber Crime Unit and 110 cases are still under investigation. “We have also been able to recover a large number of exotic cars and properties suspected to have been acquired through the proceeds of crime. Devices used by the suspects have been confiscated and the proceeds from these cybercrimes will be forfeited after convictions have been secured. “Prior to the release of the FBI list, we had in collaboration with the FBI, cases under investigation of which 2 suspects indicted in the list released by the FBI are in our custody. On the other hand, another suspect on the list is being investigated independently on a different case and his case is pending arraignment. “We have further intensified our efforts in cracking down cybercrimes that have been traced down to Nigeria in collaboration with the FBI. Notably, from January to August 2019, recovered funds stand at N423, 006,987.92; $39,253 and €2330. “The modus operandi of these cybercrimes include the following: Romance scams, Email Phishing, Business Email Compromise, Wire Transfer, Identity Theft, Fraudulent bit coin and crypto currency sales, Obtaining by false pretense to mention a few.” Aliyu implored the media to join forces with the EFCC to wage war against financial and cybercrimes. He added: “We therefore implore you to help us and ensure that the anti-corruption message is spread via the different media houses. You must continue to collaborate and cooperate with us to make the fight a success. “I urge you to continue to help us sensitize, mobilize and educate all the critical stakeholders to continue to support the fight against economic and financial crimes. We must collectively strive to achieve the Nigeria of our dream. “Corruption has done a lot of harm to the society. Like the President said: “we must kill corruption before it kills us”. We have to stand together to fight it. There will be no surrender in this war against corruption.” https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2019/09/04/efcc-arrests-two-suspects-on-u-s-fbi-wanted-list/

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has obtained orders for the interim forfeiture of assets traced to a former Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, and his wife. The Head, Enugu Zonal Office of the commission, Mr Usman Imam, disclosed this on Wednesday in Enugu while briefing newsmen on the activities of the commission in the last eight months. Imam said that the commission also obtained similar order on a property traced to a former aide to Okorocha, Mr Paschal Obi, and the former governor’s daughter. He said that the commission had established prima facie cases against the suspects which they would answer to. Imam said that the commission would like to know how the Rochas Foundation and other accomplices acquired and or converted some of the property for personal use. He listed some of the property to include a 16-block cum 96 flats and an eight-bungalow multimillion naira estate, hotel, two schools, shopping plaza, supermarket, hospital and four vehicles. The EFCC chief said that while the hospital was traced to Obi, the remaining property were traced to the former governor and his family, including his wife and daughter. “We hope to get permanent forfeiture orders on the property in order to return them to the people of the state,” he said. Imam said that all the facilities, including the schools, would remain functional as the commission would not like to shut them down for the sake of the students and other users. “Other recoveries were made and are awaiting forfeiture, but for the court vacation. They include a twin three-storey building with a three bedroom bungalow and a duplex, both in Enugu. “The property were recovered from cyber fraudsters,” he said. Imam said that the commission, within the period, recovered N213.85 million and 10, 600 US dollars. “In one of such recoveries, one Augustine Ejimokor, who defrauded his victim of the sum of 5,000 US dollars and used it to acquire a Mercedez Benz C300 was ordered to forfeit the vehicle. “So far, the zone has arrested 88 suspected fraudsters since 2015, with 70 of them in 2019. This underscores the efforts of the present zonal head in conformity with the acting chairman’s directives,” he said. Imam said that the zone also obtained 59 convictions out of whom were the 51 arrested and prosecuted in 2019.
