Dikwons: Please help. My 2weeks plus old chicks are dull, not eating well, sleeping standing, buried necks, some have watery stools, I noticed this two days ago. I have vaccinated them against Newcastle disease with LaSota, in the first week, then Gongola in the second week. This is the third week and they went from being energetic to being sick in a flash. I've been giving them a glucose+antibiotic+vitamin drug since I got them. I bought chlortetracycline drug yesterday for them but they are still the same. I keep them well aerated and their litter dry. There are two poults with them who are still agile. Pls next time give ur gumboro sooner, say day 9 to 12. Anyway give then some cocciostats like embazyl . they will recover. God be with u. |

Here is my story... I'm a graduate of animal science.. Graduated couple of years back. After NYSC I came home. No job. So I started hustling to make small pay to survive. ... .Two years later... I got a job as a civil servant with a small pay but I was able to save up to 30k monthly. I used that money to raise birds cos am a professional animal scientist. My 360k became 720k at the end of the year. Two years later I had over 1.3million in my savings n investment account. Got me a small car n a fully furnished apartment. .. .the next year... I only had 200k so I met a.trusted friend for a soft loan of 250k. Total money,450k. I raised broiler birds with it for just 4 months. Got almost 800k. Paid back the debt n had close to 500k left. .............like I said its just my story. Moral of the story.... 1. Animal science(production) is the only business I know that can give me at least 70% return of every money I put in. 2. When u become that professional, people will consult u n trust u with their monies. 3. U can become that millionaire using people's money. 4. Agriculture is the future. Take it or leave it. 5. U will be a guaranteed employer of labour, a business man and a C.E O .
... In my next life if there is, I will remain an agriculturist. For now, and till I die I'm gonna remain an ANIMAL SCIENTIST. |

Car Talk › Re: How Do I Know If My Thermostat Has Been Removed?? by apexquest(op): 10:21am On Sep 16, 2015 |
davo3286: Adding to what @honmusa stated. Very correct! The thermostat is a purely mechanical switch (speaking analogously) which opens or closes to allow more or less coolant flow depending on the temperature level of the coolant flowing through the engine. Whereas thermo switch (now speaking purely electrically) is simply an electrical switch that responds to changes in temperature which the ECU can communicate with.
At cold start, the engine coolant thermostat remains CLOSE. After starting the car and the engine starts running it begins to heat up...the coolant inside gains the heat and heats up correspondingly. At this point, the engine thermostat heats up as well and begins to change position from been fully close to partially close and then fully OPEN when the temperature is optimum. Once the thermos begins to open cool water begins to flow into the engine to cool it and thereby bringing the engine temperature to normal. This happens when the thermostat is fully open i.e. when the coolant temperature is 95degC.
Now, back to the question on how to know whether the thermostat is still intact or has been removed.
1. Pop up the hood;
2. Start the engine
3. Look carefully in front of the engine between the radiator and the engine. You will see two big hoses going into the engine from the radiator. One of them is usually located at the upper side of the radiator while the other is at the bottom. They're both usually close together at the engine side and enters the engine. One of them takes hot coolant away from the engine, while the other takes cool coolant into the engine when the thermostat is partially or fully open.
4. After locating the hoses, carefully and constantly monitor how hot or cold the hoses are by feeling them with your hands. After say 1-2 mins you will observe that one hose will change from being cool to warm then while the other remains cold. After say 5mins, the hose that was cold should become or feel warm to touch. After say 5-10 minutes, both hoses should be just about the same temperature. If what I described so far happens then your thermostat is intact and working fine.
5. If the as you start the engine and feel the hoses with your hand and they both have the same temperature throughout the time or one remains hot and the other remains cold after 5-10mins? It then mean two things - (i) It's either the thermostat is stuck in CLOSE position, i.e when one hose remains cold and the other hot after the said time period (5-10mins) or (ii) it is stuck OPEN or has been REMOVED, i.e. when both hoses maintains the same temperature change, of equal amounts, all through the time period, i.e are both hot or cold at the same time, from when the engine was started to when it became hot.
6. I hope this little 'layman' explanation answered your question?? This morning i tried the radiator hose method. I kept touching both hoses while waiting for temp gauge to rise to mid point. Observation I observed that the hose at the top of the radiator had become very warm while the lower hose had remain cool. Nevertheless both fans starting running the moment I turned on the car at cold start. What sayeth thou about these |

adanny01: I will like to make a correction so that readers will not have it stuck in their brains.
Thermostat does not control or regulate the cooling fan, the temperature sensor is the one that does that. It does that by sensing when temp is going high so it switches on the fan by means of a relay.
A simple logic to know that for sure is looking at cars with viscous cooling fans as example. In such case, the fan is purely a mechanical one so the thermostat has no way to regulate it? But y will the temp sensor trigger the cooling fans to run early in the morning at cold start?? |

Car Talk › Re: How Do I Know If My Thermostat Has Been Removed?? by apexquest(op): 6:47pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
FlyboyZee: Here are a few simple steps that would help you know if your car's thermostat has been removed
Step 1: Open your car bonnet or hood, first thing in the morning.
Step 2: Start the car.
Step 3: Go to the front of the car and observe whether the fans start working immediately or not.
Decision Rule: D If the fans start working immediately you start the car first thing in the morning (at cold start), know that the car's thermostat has been removed.
If on the other hand, the fans do not come on immediately at cold start (that is, if it took some time after cold start before the fans come on), then you are safe. That means your car's thermostat is still intact. Will do that first thing tomorrow morning .. Thanks. |
Car Talk › Re: How Do I Know If My Thermostat Has Been Removed?? by apexquest(op): 2:21pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
apexquest: The two fans starts working as soon as I turn on the vehicle,.even in the morning.. Mlud: The thermostat if working properly will usually regulate the cooling fan. This automatically switches on the cooling fan when the engine reaches a temperature pre-set by the vehicle manufacturer.
If the thermostat has been removed there may have been a previous overheating problem with the car. To get round this some mechanics will amend the electrics to ensure that the cooling fan is on all the time - a bad move. This is something common on some cars in Nigeria e.g Landrover Freelanders.
I always carry out a cooling fan test (among others) before I purchase a used car.
Does your car currently overheat or is the cooling fan on all the time? The two fans starts working as soon as I turn on the vehicle,.even in the morning.. It doesn't overheat.. I have done straight 30 to 40 minutes drive on 3 occasions, didn't cross the half way on gauge. |

however, all is not bad
I once entered a cab (drop) in PHC, and got gisting with the driver. he told me that he is a graduate, and use to work for firm earning small pay. but he use to make money by carrying passengers on his way to work in the morning and also doing about two trips when he closes work in the evening before going home. He was able to make enough money outside his regular job for vehicle and personal maintenance. He saved enough, and He has been able to purchase a land and build his own house were he is living. Thanks a lot.. That's a nice suggestion. Giving it a second thought |

GHoJes: Read well before you hasten to quote, i'm not the uncle that asked him to buy land neither did i suggested building is own accomodation. I only hinted on him renting his own space to have a feel of responsibilities, being responsible and prioritising. I as well suggested 2 or 3 other things he could have done to expand his income before car purchase and marriage. The matter that really brought the op here was not even misplaced priority but that of non working priority. That was why he felt the car was a mistake although it is, that was why he readily made his uncle's not immediately feasible land purchase his next priority leaving marriage hanging in the air not that it had a fixed place previously either. As a matter of fact, he is just taking suggestions now to make one. OP before now bought that car because the money was in his hand, i wouldnt have mind if he bought it considering its cost saving advantage over public transportation. Before this thread if he will be honest to himself, he would have spend his next reasonable savings on the next fancy that catches his attention. U gave very good points, I acknowledge them. But to assume I bought that car for fancy is wrong sir. A primera doesn't meet fancy requirements. More so, I never left marriage hanging: its next year. |

Coldplay007: Nigerians have a funny mentality.... Guy! You made the right choice joor! How much do you think a plot of land is? Your salary is 50k per month, that's 600k per year.. Even if you use all of your salary to build house it will take you at least 6 years to build a modest house... What is wrong with Nigerians and their archaic mentality of building house small small.. OP! A car is a necessity and the primera is a modest choice very soon you will marry, do they expect your pregnant wife to be entering molue and danfo.. This is the time to focus on your income stream and not building a house, you need multiple income streams. When you earn @ least 100k, you can then decide to start your small small business if you want.. Why don't you use the money from selling the chickens in December to breed more chicken for easter? Thank u my brother... All your point are well noted...actually thought I was alone, on such thoughts. |
