“…Did you ever care to notice how the earth is being destroyed?”
Timeless lyrics from Michael Jackson’s Earth Song. We could give an answer to his question? Yes we do care. We have noticed. Well some of us have.
So now we find ourselves at a point where the ‘evil’ oil companies "rape" deep oceans to look for petroleum reserves, they pollute mangrove swamps and other aqua-dependent ecosystems with their offshore operations. By the way, oil spills everyday at an offshore rig site but not always on the same level as the Gulf oil crisis from a few years ago (just thought you should know). They violate the very innocence of nature’s creatures, upset the balance, destroy aquatic life, force sea creatures to relocate from their God-given habitats to less favorable areas where they await their inevitable fate- certain death and/or possible extinction. These ‘evil’ oil companies have gone from deep to ultra deep drilling and production in oceans. Nothing stands in their way, not even the Arctic/Antarctic ice where exploration and production is expected in the not-too-distant future.
I saw the Avatar movie a while ago and couldn’t help but notice the way the ‘Corporations’ were portrayed. Anyone who watches it would perhaps conclude that corporations have got real evil blood in them. Then I asked myself, “Are they really the evil ones?” I mean, if I go back to oil companies and their activities, I can easily ask, “Why are they drilling?”
The answer is pretty obvious, right?
“They drill for oil and gas, stupid”? I’d hear someone say. Ok, I’d apologize for the rather simplistic question and then ask, “Why are they drilling for petroleum?”
This time an answer may take a few seconds but one would definitely reply something in the neighborhood of, “Because we need it.”
At that point, we both could agree that it’s just a case of demand and supply. We want oil [its associated products and the energy derived from it] at an affordable rate. They (the corporations) head out, find the petroleum, and bring it to us.
“So who’s the evil one now?” I’d ask you. “Is it us or them?”
Let’s face it; oil isn’t the lifeblood of a thousand industries around the world. We are. Yes, all of us, including Al Gore, his narcissistic eco-celebrities, and their following of global warming preaching, pale-skinned, sick-looking, vegan ‘tree-huggers’. And now, in the 21st century, this demand for energy may have gotten out of hand and you can trust the fact that supply will rise to meet it.

When ish hits d fan, when itz glaring tht u'v effed up in ur line of thot, you'll now hide under the blanket of "I'm responsible for what I post not what you understand"..

I've seen a lot of guys here (no-sexism) embrace that cop out and it's really uncool..

You're a man.. Do the needful n man up to ur mistake, u'l get more respect for it..

Tens of millions of demons couldn't stop you coming in to this world, is it some quota system (which in my opinion is an inclusive system) that will stop you from getting what's yours?

No doubt NLNG GT is an opportunity but in the end it is what it is - AN opportunity, just one more opportunity for u guys to take aim at and fire ur best shot.
All the best.

I mean if the cut-off mark is 32% for Borno then that's one sure way to get the oyel money.
Really disappointing..

A newly released study shows that regular drinkers are less likely to die prematurely than people who have never indulged in alcohol. You read that right: Time reports that abstaining from alcohol altogether can lead to a shorter life than consistent, moderate drinking. Surprised? The tightly controlled study, which looked at individuals between ages 55 and 65, spanned a 20-year period and
accounted for variables ranging from
socioeconomic status to level of physical
activity. Led by psychologist Charles
Holahan of the University of Texas at Austin, it found that mortality rates were
highest for those who had never had a sip,
lower for heavy drinkers, and lowest for
moderate drinkers who enjoyed one to three
drinks per day.
Of the 1,824 study participants, only 41
percent of the moderate drinkers died
prematurely compared to a whopping 69
percent of the nondrinkers. Meanwhile, the
heavy drinkers fared better than those who
abstained, with a 60 percent mortality rate.
Despite the increased risks for cirrhosis and
several types of cancer, not to mention
dependency, accidents, and poor judgment
associated with heavy drinking, those who
imbibe are less likely to die than people
who stay dry.
A possible explanation for this is that
alcohol can be a great social lubricant, and
strong social networks are essential for
maintaining mental and physical health.
Nondrinkers have been shown to
demonstrate greater signs of depression than
their carousing counterparts, and in
addition to the potential heart health and
circulation benefits of moderate drinking
(especially red wine), it also increases
sociability.
While it’s always important to drink
responsibly, this is one study that warrants
raising a glass.

majekdom2: hehehe .. I like that word dump . Oh yes , dplacement clearly stated this previously . Sadly, he didn't tell us what they would check . I think its on the 07 thread .The doctor didn't discuss anything with me when I had my last.
I thot he just mentioned the possibility tho I myt be wrong..
But it's a risk for any company that drops sm1 at the medicals stage and doesn't let the person know what condition he has that moved them to dump him. All kinds of lawsuits can follow too..
Still, apart from terminal illnesses or maybe some chronic autoimmune disease or hep B, I can't think of any health issue that's tested at the medicals stage that can disqualify one.

majekdom2: Everybody plays his cards well , that's why we are all at this stage of the recruitment . Would you conclude that those that wouldn't get the job after the medicals didn't play their cards well ... Its a competitive situation out there , the industry is about experience and what you have got to offer really. God's grace is the ultimate.
C'mon, you're really stretching the meaning of what wizardofOz1 posted..

Pls is thr any case of getting dumped at medicals stage?? Pls share..

eyenCalabar: Nice piece. But a little correction here: The Bible saying that Jesus sits at the right hand of God doesn't mean He sits at the right hand side of God. There's different between that two. What the Bible says in essence there is that Jesus is sitting in God's position of authority and not necessarily which direction (left, right or centre). For instance, if I say this guy is my right hand man. That means you can deal with him on my behalf. It means I have entrusted my authority on him. He can acts in my place etc. Hope that makes some sense.
I like this..

I've always wondered why this is and I know most Nigerians are right handed but isn't it a bit unfair to lefties? I know handshakes are a bit different but I've actually seen someone apologize for giving someone money with his left hand (his right hand was holding a car battery). Or my favorite - say your right hand is damp and you wanna give something to someone, you'd support what your left is giving with your right hand under it. Beht why? Lol
