purplekayc: Does anyone use steam here? Wanna know how it works is it free ot what?
i use steam. it's like an app store for pc/mac/linux games. almost all the games there cost money but they have a lot of sales where AAA games cost as little as $5. sites like humblebundle.com also give away steam games for next to nothing. to use steam, you have to install the software on your pc and then download the games in your steam library to your computer.

Christianity EtcRe: Has Atheism Ever Gotten U Into Trouble? by aquastar(m): 4:23pm On Oct 20, 2011
back to the question, i'm agnostic because i simply this we have no way of knowing whether there is a god or not. im very vocal and being antireligious with my friend but i believe im quite charming so i get away with a lot of things. smiley
that said, i once joked on twitter that jesus was basically a bastard child. thousands of nigerians replied insulting ridiculing and threatening me. i found it quite entertaining though smiley
PhonesRe: What Depletes Phone Battery Most? by aquastar(m): 6:35pm On Sep 25, 2011
I use an android and data connections consume power. 3g is worse than 2g like pointed out. Also your screen brightness settings also really matter. Setting it to maximum for example can half my battery life! playing music on the other hand doesn't consume a lot of power unless I'm using my Bluetooth headset. Videos serioisly consume power too. Games curiously don't consumes as much power as I would have expected. Of course they leave the phone backlight on so that still counts.

So the bottom line is always set your screen brightness to the minimum and use 3g only if you have to
Christianity EtcRe: Please Answer This! by aquastar(m): 1:21pm On Nov 25, 2010
guys grow up please. some people believe in god, some people don't. some people believe in allah, some in buddha, some in jesus etc even those who believe in god do not agree on who he is and how he can be reached. at the end of the day, no one really knows.

that said, if death is truly the end, atheists unfortunately wont get to say 'ï told you so'.

GamingRe: What Game Are You Currently Playing? by aquastar(m): 12:03pm On Nov 25, 2010
i'm without a real laptop or console for now, haven't found suitable game for my nokia e5 yet.

the only gaming device i'm stuck with is my netbook. of cos it's not a powerful device at all so it cant support most recent games.

i recently got some old games on it to temporarily fill my gaming appetite,
max payne
solder of fortune II
alien vs predator.

they all run pretty well.

i'm currently trying to download silent hill 2. if that should work then i'll play it first cos i never got around to playing any of the games in the silent hill series and i'm a fan of the genre,

I just uploaded a program I wrote to Sourceforge. Please download it and tell me what you think guys!
http://compactdiary.sourceforge.net

It is essentially a personal journal keeper with a nice UI and features like exporting your entries to your blog. Written it Java and uses Apache Derby as SQL database.

Input from you guys will be immensely appreciated as I am just seeking to develop myself.

Thanks.

ProgrammingRe: 10 Reasons Why .NET Is Better Than Java by aquastar(m): 2:25pm On Oct 24, 2009
dude, research isn't as hard as it sounds, at least you could have read wikipedia

let me say at first that I have a working knowlegde of both platforms but java is my baby, so this is going to be bias, you have been warned wink

1. In java, you also have several choices of language as well, c++, ruby (jruby), python(jython) etc can all be compiled into java bytecode.

2. both .net and jvm do NOT run at native speed. the mechanism of both environments are similar in fact. both compile code into byte code which in interpreted into native language at runtime. this is not to say that a .net program might not run faster than a java program on the same Windows machine. i haven't tested that yet.

3 one of the strengths of java is that it is cross platform. am sure you know that native code on window and mac for instance are different so really there cannot be way of accessing custom native code without causing portabilty to suffer. of course you should know that certain operations in java like I/O do use native code.

4 java has properties, getters and setters and has had generics since 1.5 no delegates though, but then interfaces can be use to get around that quite conveniently

5 really do itunes or safari or google chrome look "out of place" on your computer because they dont look exactly like some windows programs, i doubt it, and even if they do, using system look and feel in java should make you reasonably comfortable

6 .net bringing revolution to linux, very funny, EVERY java program you know runs on linux too.

7 of course, java is an open specification too like c#(thats why you have your mono in the first place) and most languages.

There are bound to be advantages of one over the other but to say that .net is better is nothing less than criminal,

Moreover, if you are a typical Nigerian who lives in the software utopia of keygens and cracks, i guess you've have never had to shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars dollars to buy Visual studio.net IDE before. thats is why you can be defending them this way. With java, you have the option of choosing between two fully professional , open source IDEs, Eclipse and Netbeans.

Besides, java's api and libraries are completely open source. This is realy usefull to developers. (I for instance learned and used most object oriented design patterns among other things just by studying some of the source codes, without knowing that patterns even had names or that they was anything called GangofFour)

You shouldn't be naive enough to believe anything from microsoft can be really, truly open.

and why do you think there are so few asp site out there , compered to php and jsp.

That said, even if .net was the only platform in the world i'd rather quit IT than be sucked in their blatant, shameless schemes of MONOPOLY of the IT industry.
Christianity EtcTower Of Babel by aquastar(op): 5:33pm On Oct 17, 2009
As much as I would like to believe the entire bible and take it as the absolute Word of God without questing, some things there are just too, Well, Genesis 11:5-7 tells the story of the twoer of Babel. I really wonder why God had to stop those guys, no matter how high their tower got they would never have reached heaven anyway, so why was He bothered, And why dint he move a finger in more recent time when scientist where actually able to tell everyone to real structure of the earth, and why am I the only one talking about this anyway, this should make all christian raise their eyebrows really

Music/RadioRe: Nbc Should Ban P'square "danger" by aquastar(m): 5:03pm On Oct 17, 2009
your reasons are plain dumb, nbc should ban a video because the artiste are pointing at the camera and because you think the lyrics are meaningless, you honestly think those are reason to ban a music video, well *shakes head*

Both are great bands of course, but i think i'll go for linkin park, they're like one on my very fav bands, their new song, new divide is very cool, nickelback, evanescence et al are all cool but the illest hard rock band ever is breaking benjamin, their album Phobia is better than anything linkin park and co have ever made

ProgrammingRe: A Little Help With Java by aquastar(m): 6:51pm On Sep 23, 2009
output starts from 0 not 1 because this is how a for loop works,

for ( exp1; exp2; exp3 )
{
.
//stuff
.
}

1. the interpreter evaluates exp1 (in your case i=0)
2. checks for boolean expression in exp2 (in your case, i<=10)
3. if exp2 evaluates to true, it run the code (in you case the code will run with i= 0)
4. AFTER running the code, it executes exp3 (in your case, increments i by 1)
5 then goes back to step 2 and repeat the whole thing until i=11 in which case the "stuff" part with not run since exp2 would not evaluate to true

like i said your probably know all this by now, i would help with your newest troubles though, if i can

Music/RadioRe: Aren't No Rock, Grunge, Heavy Metal Fans In Lagos by aquastar(m): 3:35pm On Feb 05, 2009
this thread feels like home man (ignoring the few haters, anyway). I cant start to list all the bands i listen to i'd still be typing tomorow, i was surprised some bands tokio hotel got mentioned here though and my all time fav hard rock band breaking benjamin, man they make you forget all the nickelback back stuff. speaking of nickel back, i always thought it was impossible to beat "all the right reason" and dark horse proved it. hinder is also a greater band but i think they focus too much on sex, theory of a deadman(i knew then through the game fehrenheit) and pubble of mudd are cool i dont really do punk but i would make exception for some relient k, all american rejects(is this punk) maybe simple plan. Fav soft rock band are marron 5 keane coldplay bloc party and i tried hard to like u2 but they just bored me, i love bon jovi tho, and all the popular one.linkin park, evanescence etc. christian rock is also cool rush of fools, the afters, skillet demon hunter , underoath the list goes one. and i am absolutely crazy about hillsong music and for those of you who didnt know they have left the day of "all things are possible" and are more into worship rock now thanks to the likes of marty sampson and joel houston(the pastor's son). brooke fraser, reuben morgan mia fieldes, matt croker, and ofcourse darlene zschech are all fantastic songwriters and worship leaders. god bless hillsong.
