iwaeda:Actually, nothing new. Abeokuta has three kings technically and all seem peaceful. Let them share Kano metropolis. It's large enough. Each can have an area of influence. |
If na for We Hail Thee, the money they have stashed and houses they have bought in the USA will not let politicians say "pim". Too much skeleton in their cupboard. |
Max24:True. Immediately fuel prices really go down, smuggling to neighbouring countries will resume. Trust 9ja. As soon as there is profit to be made, they will smuggle. Soon, with poor maintenance culture, the creaking refineries will crumble and oil will be scarce again. Some in the system will find ways to resume fuel importation again and eat subsidy money. Yes, some will tag this as pessimistic. But 9ja history has shown that we have too many saboteurs. Irrespective of govt in power. |
Ojuntana:Very true. Including those who demonstrated in 2012 against GEJ's subsidy removal. We able Nairalanders can help you post their pictures carrying banners and holding hands against GEJ here on Nairaland. You may have to start from Daura and Aso Rock. Wise people cautioned against throwing stones into the market. |
Dude, your feeling is the most normal you can have. I was in a Michael Jackson concert. about 7 years later, I also saw Whitney, Bobby and Mariah perform together. I enjoyed the shows but nothing more. Girls were crazy, hugging and kissing black guys after the MJ's show. Totally weird. Celebrity worship is out of hand. |
Warmaterial:I may not be an Asari fan but he is descend from a monarch, if my memory serves me right. |
Kdon2:You talk like GenZ. So all the cattle our grandmas had were in Kano, Chad or Burkina Faso ba? You probably know far less than Southern 9ja than you like to believe. Time was we had herds of native cattle across the South. In Edo people call it Edo cow, Igbo cow in Igbo land. Local cow in Western Region. That is how native to the areas they were. They had reared them as long as anyone could remember. Hausa cows were considered to be of poor quality, which was true. I doubt if you have even seen those native cows before. Obas and nobility used to have large herds. Some commoners even had according to economic strength. Big ladies of the land would own a few each at least. I remember a burial in 1981, the olori ebi/okaegbe (head of family in the burial) specifically asked the children of the deceased not to buy any Hausa cows, only native cows. The man who died was over 100 years old. Women used to put a small bell around the cattle's neck. To help trace it if it goes into the bush. We were not always this poor in innovation and imagination in the South. Farming in crops and livestock is everyone's responsibility. We have no contract or law that says only the North should produce cow meat. |
Kdon2:Why have we in the South not shown how it's done with all our Agric professors? Do not underestimate the centuries-old knowledge of cattle-rearing in the North. We should have merged their old ways with modern-farming to create the very best template. Our grandmothers had the native smaller/stockier cattle in those days. They reared them quite well in the South. It was far tastier than Northern cattle we have now. How come we have none of the native cattle now? We can't blame the North for everything. |
Ok, low debt profile is good news. But how has it helped to strengthen/stabilise our currency, helped to reduce inflation and create jobs or increase consumer and investor confidence? Or how well will it positively impact the above in the next twelve months? These are the important indices. Nonetheless, it's a good start. |
Gadafii:Dude, nor advise anybody. Let dem be mumu and not do DNA test. Na their wahala. We have preached DNA test for years here now. Nobody can say he doesn't know. |
Madam, na you know. Make you serve divorce. The 25 to 35% who cheat and birth another man's child also push out babies. The question is whose baby? The man will marry another wife. Trust is too expensive to afford these days. To raise a child nor be joke. |
sagitariusbaby:It's actually part of our traditional values. In my place of origin, the king reserved an area for foreigners to live. |
Disguanguan. Iberibeism. |
mightyhaze:And if you have no brothers and male cousins. At times, your wife may have been dating your cousin or brother before you met her. But will decide to keep quiet. One of a late relative's kids belonged to his cousin. I have mentioned it for years here. |
olas24u:Why was it peppering you that I used Omoluabi? Afterall, Yoruba musicians use Odogwu in songs even though Odogun, Edogun, Odogwu and more versions exist to describe a real big man/strong man/war general in various Southern 9ja languages for general and aristocratic use. Why would using a Yoruba term be a problem as long as others can understand it or their own language equivalent? You would never have complained if I used an English word or other word from a Western language. The point is people are still driven in 9ja by primitive instincts. A major barrier to unity and nation-building. It does not matter here what your tribe is. You may believe others have no right to use that word if you think they are not Yoruba. Or you may think why use a Yoruba word for an Igbo person, fearing implied supremacy. Either way, look at yourself carefully. As we must all look in the mirror. |
Richtaiwo:All branches of the Armed Forces fight on all terrains. |
olas24u:More proof of tribalism. If I used a Jewish, English or French word for Omoluabi, you would have lapped it up. A good person irrespective of language used to described him/her remains good. A tribalist in any language is the same. |
bluefilm:That guy didn't jam poverty sha. His experience was pretty average. In fact, such people never considered themselves poor. Everyone was pretty even. Especially those who grew up in 60s to 80s, most would have lived like that. People of the economic status he described still could afford a brand new motorcycle, a Datsun 120Y, Datsun 140J, Beetle/Ijapa, even Peugeot 504. Some didn't bother because people were content and public transport was cheap. Yes, neighbours brought food to family. You didn't eat outside but may drink coke, fanta, sprite, etc. |
treatise: ![]() But it would be a "sin" not to wear one. You forgot those who wore white socks, sandals, red/blue goggles and asoebi. |
justtoodark:One bad should not be paid back with another bad. But Ghana kicked out 9ja people with Biafra War only just over. 9ja was in bad shape. But 9ja have almost forgotten. I know some 9ja people who lost huge assets overnight in Ghana Ghana never had any civil war. But they were everywhere in 9ja just years after they kicked us out. The Israeli-Arab war of early 70s gave 9ja a huge oil windfall. And the economy boomed, attracting other Africans. With Udoji award and all. Even the Ghana must go thing, Ghanians with genuine documents and employed were many and remained. They were not affected. Including our teachers and tens of labourers in my uncle's Agro-plantations. Yes, the move was a big PR disaster for 9ja and African unity. We could have done it much better, transparently with everyone, including Ghanians, knowing the exact process to stay legally. There were some without documents and remained. They were too much part of 9ja fabric already. Nobody reported them. I knew some. On a personal level, my disappointment is that the Ghanian prime minister, Kofi Busia, was one of the brightest minds in politics in West Africa back then. A Fulbright scholar and Oxford DPhil holder. Unless he acted on orders from military HoS, Gen. Afrifa. |
Richtaiwo:Jack Gowon from the North, for about 9 years |
Barteze:If this is true, Duke na big fool. Capital one. Don't be surprised if Odili was among the so-called palmwine powerless Nigerians who sent him. They thought they deserved it more than GEJ. But they forgot about the grace of God. Chai! No wonder they hate the woman. The more they hate, the more God elevates her. Meritoriously. |
3 of this size cost me 450k in 2019. All bought together. Another single one bought alone cost more, I think 165k or 175k. Not sure. This single one here today might cost nearly double in South-South. |
Dalohad:All the Armed Forces and paramilitary services have their Air Command. The police, customs and immigration are supposed to have. Even Road Safety should have helicopters considering the thousands of kilometres of road to monitor nationwide. Including Air Ambulance. Nothing should stop Amotekun from having helicopters too. |
samuk:Dude, if Mr. Lie takes a private jet and Mr Truth sits on the back of a tortoise to travel, Mr. Truth will one day overtake Mr. Lie. People forget that, the movement of Prince Ikhimwin (Chima) to form the Iseluku, Onicha-Ugbo, Onicha-Olona, Onitsha and other clans, did not happen within just ten years. They also forget that also forgot that Children in areas that had a large Igbo population arriving, were been Igbonised quite rapidly. There a swathes of Edo people in Ondo with their Edo language and culture gone, unless you look closely and ask questions. Often, it's the kings and aristocrats who will tell you in confidence all about their Edo origins. As close as Edo is to Ondo geographically. Never mind Anambra that is far from Edo today. |
Kobojunkie:Kobo the Industrious minded guru, wehdon. Clap for yourself. You may have forgotten how Obama seconded his man to help package Buhari against GEJ. GEJ signed the gay law and secret gay lords in the West were not happy. ![]() Unless you were born abroad, I doubt you have mingled with oyinbo more than me. We sabi their obfuscation. Didn't we see IMF/WB encourage IBB to bring SAP? Did it help us? It was the beginning of our proper suffering. |
iwaeda: ![]() World Powers don't want any humans left in this geographical Niger Area. In 15 years, hunger will have wiped out most of the people. They will start using it for Safari. Animals have more value to them. People who recommend 15 years of more poverty can't mean well for us. |
Kobojunkie:Kobo, you get time o. People who have not being around won't know. They are micro-minded people. I am overjoyed whenever children of immigrant acquaintances, including 9ja, get into uni to do STEM and other valued courses like law. I taught some of those kids for free in my free time. To overcome science and maths challenges. Today, they are contributing and making us proud. Many of their parents didn't go to uni and did all manner of jobs to raise the kids. Sunak became PM without rubbishing immigrants. Kemi can do better. |
ddippset:Of a truth, we can't afford more than a single parliament of maximum 250 MPs. Never mind 2 of well over 400 members combined. Totally irrelevant. None of them deserves more than OFR or MFR. Their work is less than the contribution of a school principal or Assistant Commissioner of Police. |
Kobicove:I have seen it in Igbo culture in diaspora. The mother side-lined the father and used her own family for the marriage. The mother tried to badmouth the ex-hubby and father of the bride but I saw through her. The hubby had health issues and marital issues began. Even she admits his was highly flying and decent in younger years. Even while side-lining him, she used his entitlements (recognition he had from the authorities and associated privileges) to make it a big occasion. She made me fear women even more. So don't deny anything for anyone just based on tribe. Until I saw it I thought it was impossible in Igbo culture. |
cococandy:Lol. Even God could not please Eve in the Garden of Eden, and you want an ordinary human to achieve that? How? For a man, once paternity test says your kids are indeed yours, leave the rest. Don't go and kee yourself. |
A nobody insulting a hero... Asari deserve the throne more than any other person from that community.
