You surely do need a UK transit Visa, if you will remain at the same airport to connect to ireland you need a DAT (Direct Airside Transit) Visa, and if you will be changing airports, for example from Heathrow to Gatwick or Stansted to connect to Ireland, you will need another type of Visa called Visitor in Transit Visa. If you dont have either of these Visas you will surely be denied boarding the London-bound flight.

It was 28k to get in one month and 35k to get the same day or in 2 days, back when I did mine.

You'll need your basic information and certificate of origin.
You're usually required to have a guarantor, but they'll help you sort it out. I put N500 inside the file for that.
