Doctor bashing; nairaland's favorite pastime

Well I must commend the OP for helping, frankly after my experience in 2010 at the hands of the police, I would never carry a bleeding patient in my car.

As a military officer, I would expect that you perform basic first response stuff like bracing the neck, tourniquet, etc. Could have made a difference.

The patient you described needed a level 3 trauma care which I doubt you could have received in a peripheral hospital except tertiary ones like St Nicholas, Reddington, Eko and the rest. Although the doctor should have referred you promptly instead of using cash to scare you off.

On the issue of payment before "saving a life", talk is cheap. No private facility is for charity, it's a business with families depending on it. Scream all you want, without universal health insurance, health care is not cheap.

Before the "good guys" come for me, how many times have you gone to hospitals to help pay bills accumulated by indigent patients? Am an ObGyn specialist in a mission hospital. Just came out of theatre for an obstetric hysterectomy on a patient that is yet to pay 1000 naira folder.

Yes we intervene because the church in part pays the overhead and philanthropists also help out. But frankly it's being abused. I have about 3 patients still stuck with bills, pregnant women brought to the hospital by family members with NOTHING. pregnancy is not an emergency but in 9 months, you saved nothing. I know that at some point the hospital would not be able to sustain it cos it's designed to the self sufficient. it's the kindness of the Bishop, the board and the irregular stipends from the state government that helps her help these people.

Recently, a parent sued the same hospital for "keeping them hostage ". A barrister (that could not pay the bills) sued a hospital, a judge ruled against the hospital. A parent brought a very sick child without paying a lobotomy, was treated, baby died, parents now decided payment is unnecessary. Talk is cheap.

Also laughable is the statement that Nigerian doctors are quacks. the NHS is manned by Indian and Nigerian doctors. I presently have 3 offers, three COS from 3 different UK Trusts.

Leave the politicians stealing your common wealth, keep running after the doctors and medical staff. Hope you would still have those to bash available in few years

Health / Re: Muslim Lady Who Performed Surgery In Hijab Speaks After Succesful Operation.PICS by arinzest: 12:21pm On Feb 25, 2018
If this "doctor " can be identified, she deserves to have her license struck off.

An operation with no airway maintenance, the hijabi ladies not masked, very dirty drapes, white plastic table?

Was the surgery done in a jungle or a hostel?

So gross

Health / Re: Pregnant Woman Dies After Her Pastor Told Her Not To Go For C-Section by arinzest: 9:39am On Feb 17, 2018
Pity many do not understand the sad reality of our healthcare system.

As an obstetrician, I have seen women die or become horribly messed up due to religion. The pastor that quotes Hebrew women to you, what of his wife? Did the silly woman actually read this passage she was scammed out of her life with?

Women die in childbirth in this country a lot and religion contributes a lot. From the Muslim woman that will not permit vaginal examination during fasting to the Jehovah witness dying in hypovolemic shock but refusing blood. It's a pity.

For some asking for the doctor's license, you are wrong. No doctor can operate on a patient without consent. In developed countries, doctors approach courts to force the patient to have the procedure.

In 2008, a consultant got a judge to authorize blood transfusion to a baby of Jehovah witness parents in Gwagwalada. He got death threats

Something is wrong with the story.

Why keep moving from one GH to another? Why not LUTH, LASUTH or better still NOH igbobi?

Pity most of us have very little idea of how healthcare works.

The lady had 3RD DEGREE burns for Ikoro's sake. Mortality is high even in specialised units in the UK or John Hopkins.

Not to talk of long term complications like Renal failure, contractures.

Fact is that most tertiary hospitals in Nigeria cannot handle a burn patient of this degree.

Very funny when people complain about hospitals doctor bashing starts. Please don't bash the politicians you defend cos they are your people. Keep bashing doctors and nurses. Most Nigerians get off on that

Soon, you would have no one to bash.

Rest in peace Lady. Pity you were born in a land where all hope is gone.

Am sorry your friend is dead. I pray God gives her family the fortitude to bear such a loss

Back to your post, it's pure unadulterated crap. You repeatedly lied to score points against the doctors. Quite a pity.

On getting to ANY TH even in Sambisa, vital signs are taken by d nurses and patient procures a folder. All emergency units have d facility to treat with unpaid folders but folders must be got for documentation. NO DOCTOR will ask you for money for folder (that's for d records guys) or materials for treatment (that's d nurses).

Despite your attempt to blame d doctors, no patient will stay at d emergency unit WITHOUT BEING seen. Just not possible even in sambisa. About payments, you have no health insurance. You got to pay for services rendered. sad but true

As for the "kill all Nigerian doctors gang" that ship has sailed. Nigerian doctors are leaving in droves. Since 2014, Nigeria has got d best results in MRCOG part 1 exams. Better than UK trained doctors in a UK based exam.

It's easy to blame the doctors. funny, the doctors blame themselves too: for still being in Nigeria

The veracity of stories bandied by these bloggers will shock the devil himself

No doctor would touch d blood splattered patient with bare hands, his ear piece dangling over his neck. No form of resuscitative measures just d cuff of an electronic bp apparatus.

The pictures taken in d "hospital " is at best, taken in a chemist or are faked.

it's no longer a big deal to be rhesus negative

most Nigerians are non responders
Rhogam is about 30k while unbranded ones are about 22k

You only need this though, if your baby is positive as many husbands that are positive may be heterozygous (have D and d instead of both DD)

about the husband part, marry anyone you want. its no big deal.

For the blood though, most times, one of your family member will be negative too. As long as you seek help in a tertiary hospital, O-ve blood won't be so much of a big deal as the source from National Blood Transfusion Center

Chicken has come home to roost. Please tell the house where your sis n her husband are from, when they started work and how much they paid if not of Nsukka extraction.

Please note that i sincerely feel for them but really, d VC had no option. Many old staff of d university are happy cos half salaries will now stop.

Not surprised u asked God to bless Edoga d serial philanderer. How can u employ over 400 people after new VC appointment had been confirmed?

Do u know that many lecturers with principles left cos of him voluntarily? The last batch of his boys he made Professors n Assoc Profs; how many publications did they have? Who assesed them?

Its only a fool that would think d quagmire left behind by Edeoga will not be cleaned. MOUAU was ran like a fiefdom. Which university committee approved d purchase of d shuttles? Who are d drivers? How much was d university making from d venture and how much were d drivers paying actually? Who was taking d balance?

Health / Contempt Of Court: Resident Doctors Threaten To Jail Medical Director by arinzest: 12:00pm On Apr 06, 2017
The lingering dispute between the members of the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, and the Chief Medical Director of t‎he Hospital, Dr. Chuku Abali took another dimension Wednesday as the doctors have threatened to initiate contempt proceedings him.

This followed alleged plan by the embattled CMD to ‎replace the striking doctors, contrary to order of court that both parties should maintain the status quo.

It could be re-called that the doctors had dragged Abali to the National Industrial Court sitting in Enugu, in suit NoNICN/EN/15/2017, leading to an order of court against any attempt to sack them or withhold their salary pending the determination of the suit.

However, one of the workers, who spoke to journalists in Enugu under anonymity, for fear of victimization, alleged that the hospital authority was already secretly replacing the resident doctors with locum medical officers and house officers.

According to him, “the Chief Medical Director has concluded plans to hire more than thirty (30) locum medical officers and house officers to replace the us because we are on strike.

“This is despite the fact that we are in court against him before the National Industrial Court, Enugu Division on issue of threats to withdraw, sack or replace some of us in the Hospital.

“We commenced this industrial action on the 2nd March, 2017 to press for unconditional reinstatement of our President, Dr. Orji Emeka Innocent who was unlawfully suspended indefinitely without pay by the Medical Director.

“The Resident doctors decided to toe this unfortunate line of action after all attempts to make the Medical Director reason with us failed.”

He further alleged that “instead of finding an amicable solution to the present impasse, the medical director has gone ahead to engage the services of locum doctors and house officers to replace the striking Resident doctors, thereby denying the good people of Abia State and its environs their right to quality and specialized health care.”

He vowed that “should he go ahead with such illegal plot, we shall not hesitate to institute contempt proceedings against him and he knows the implications.”

When contacted, the lawyer to the Resident doctors’ Association, Ike Maximus Ugwuoke Esq, said “the issue of replacing the resident doctors of FMC Umuahia and even their remunerations is covered in the subsisting court action against the Medical Director and the Hospital Management in suit no NICN/EN/15/2017.

“If the Medical Director toes such step, it will be in absolute and flagrant disregard to the subsisting court order that parties should keep the peace and not disturb the res of the suit pending the determination of motion on notice.

“I don’t see the medical Director doing this, his lawyers I believe would guide him appropriately”.

Feelers indicate that the South-East zone of the Association and the national body may soon join the striking doctors of FMC Umuahia to press home their demands.

‎Efforts made to obtain reactions from Dr. Abali proved abortive as he did not answer calls put across to him. Text message sent to him has not been responded to as of the time of filling this report.
