I agree with the critics on this one, and for good reasons. The film is Marvel’s latest attempt to continue a legendary saga, yet it comes off as a recycled routine rather than something truly fresh.

Anthony Mackie is undeniably likable, but personally, he’ll always be more Falcon to me than Captain America. Filling Steve Rogers’ enormous shoes isn’t really going to be a walk in the park for any character. If you’re expecting the same inspirational spark as Steve, you’re likely to be disappointed. Although the film touches on Sam’s doubts and his struggle to live up to the old Captain America, it never really goes deep, it feels like a jumble of half-finished ideas that never fully develop.
