Thomhenry:
A certain night I drove out to get some snacks. I nearly knocked down a bike man because he was coming at me with full halogen bulbs shining directly at me and on my own lane. I couldn't see clearly where he was until he was very close. It was really a close call.

Next time you're in such situation, please try and bring your car to a complete stop to avoid any form of accident.

Its one thing to block the stealing, its another thing to have the will-power to use the revenue genereted afterwards rightly.

Nigeria is blessed with wealth but they are being stolen by people at the top.

If Peter Obi blocks them from stealing, there would be enough money to stabilise our economy and that means better life for everyone.

For the good of everyone, go get your PVC ready because it's time to change Nigeria for the future of our kids. The people have the power, not the bad leaders and their foot soldiers.

Our desire as Nigerians and a party is to see positive visionary leadership in Nigeria. Indeed everyone is entitled to his beliefs and opinions, but in general terms, no right thinking person will say Nigeria is progressing drawing from whatever indices.

It is our resolve to continue in the race for it is for this reason of salvaging the Nation that we joined this race. We will see it through and believe the seed we are sowing will yield fruits in the eventually .

Politics / GDPN Presidential Candidate Faults Tradermoni, Says His Party Has Better Plans by Armani79(m): 11:57pm On Jan 28, 2019
The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Dr. Davidson Isibor Akhimien has faulted the Tradermoni being disbursed by the Federal Government to over 1.5 million petty traders.

Akhimien said TraderMoni initiative is a wrong approach to empowering ordinary Nigerians and lifting them out of poverty.

The Presidential hopeful who spoke during the party’s rally in Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Council Area of Edo State, added that the measure rather than banish poverty will make the people poorer.

According to him, the GDPN views the TraderMoni loan initiative as vote buying and a strategy to further impoverish Nigerians.

He said: “GDPN, as a political party thinks TraderMoni loan initiative is a wrong approach to economic development and empowerment of the people. What we need today is not TraderMoni loan initiative of sharing N10, 000.

"Let the Federal Government show us Industrial Hubs and Factories put in place all around the country to reduce unemployment and poverty.”

Akhimien noted that the failure of the ruling party to fulfill its campaign promises has contributed to the increasing poverty in the country.

According to the retired military intelligence officer, President Buhari’s government should focus on improving the power sector to drive industrialisation.

This, he explained, would create jobs for the teeming unemployed Nigerian youths, improved the Gross Domestic Products(GDP) and Gross National Income(GNI) of the nation.

Politics / GDPN Presidential Candidate, Akhimien Says Trademoni Is Vote Buying by Armani79(m): 3:07pm On Jan 21, 2019
The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Dr. Davidson Isibor Akhimien has described Federal Government’s disbursement of N15b to over 1.5 million petty traders under its TraderMoni loan initiative as a wrong approach to empowering ordinary Nigerians and tackling poverty in the country.

I will go after Boko Haram sponsors, says presidential candidate
FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestLinkedInWhatsAppEmail
The Presidential Candidate, Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Dr. Davidson Akhimien, on Thursday unfolded his plans to end the Boko Haram insurgency in the country if elected in 2019.

The Edo State-born candidate said to win the war against Boko Haram, he would concentrate on identifying and neutralizing sponsors of the terrorist group.

Akhimien, who recently flagged off his campaign at Onuebum, Ogbia, Bayelsa State, said the conspiracy theories fueling insurgency in the North-East must be properly interrogated instead of ignoring them.

He said: “I have evaluated our security problems. I have done a threat analysis and I have seen at the highest level you have terrorism, which is a global phenomenon. Terrorism in the North East my approach is going to be double prongs. I will be using the political economy approach and the military approach.

“In the political economy approach, we will be looking at conspiracy theories and interrogating them properly. We don’t just wave them off. We have been in this thing for over eight years. Who are the sponsors? Why haven’t we been able to lay hands on the sponsors of this thing?

“What are the causative factors, economic neglect and lack of empowerment of the youths. So, we are going to bring about massive interventions. Deploy resources to engage the youths in productive ventures instead of leaving them in IDP camps. No matter how you deploy the military without taking care of ‘stomach infrastructure’, they will still win you”.

Akhimien further said he would tinker with the Order of Battle (OBAT) of the country’s Armed Forces to concentrate efforts in defeating the ragtag Boko Haram.

“I will tinker with the Order of Battle of the Armed Forces. In the principle of war, there is what we call concentration of forces. If it will require two divisions of the army, 10 squadrons of the Air Force to decimate the ragtag army, what am l doing with my divisions in town?

“I will deploy them. They are there to protect the territorial integrity of the country, which is being threatened. Asymmetric warfare at this time requires speed, sophistication of weapons which we are lacking in many areas”, he said.

On fight against corruption, the presidential candidate said he would first carry out a judicial reform to cleanse the third arm of government.

Observing that many judges are still corrupt in the country, he said without clearing the rot in the judiciary, nothing much could be achieved in the war against graft.

He said: “In many areas, we have faltered as a country. In the immediate, the judiciary is very key in bringing about a corrective measure when it comes to the issues of corruption. We are going to be carrying out judicial reforms at optimal levels. Most judges are corrupt.

“But the judiciary is supposed to be the fulcrum of the democratic institutions. We will cleanse the judiciary and there will be consequences for action. It will be a case of who knows the law and not who knows the judge. It will bring about the self-corrective mechanism in the society.

Politics / 2019: 2GDPN Presidential Flag Bearer Pledges To Tackle Boko Haram by Armani79(m): 7:54am On Jan 19, 2019
The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria(GDPN), Dr. Davidson Akhimien on Thursday stormed Ijebu - Ode, Ogun state, with his campaign train, pledging to tackle insecurity, particularly Boko haram insurgents frontally, if elected President in 2019.

Akhimen who attributed the security challenges buffeting the country to a "disconnect between the government and the people," said the situation has left the nation's youth hopeless, jobless and hungry.

According to him, pervasive hunger is the precursor and driver of most of the crimes and other youth restiveness prevalent in many parts of the country.

Fielding questions from the crowd after addressing the rally in Oyingbo area of Ijebu - Ode where he unveiled some of his programmes which includes massive jobs creation for the burgeoning unemployed Nigerian youths, he said "guns and bullets" would not tackle insecurity driven by hunger.

The Presidential hopeful said the problem of insecurity in the country would be greatly addressed when the government makes it easy for citizens to access qualitative and affordable food.

He warned that the type of security challenges that had brought the better parts of the North to her knees, is possible in other regions of the country if the needs of the youths were not addressed.

Akhimien cited Sweden and Scandinavian countries where Snow is experienced about six months every year yet they are still able to effectively feed their citizens with quality food, wondering why Nigeria with large fertile arable land and favourable climate could leave the citizens in hunger.

He assured that if GDPN forms the government of Nigeria by next year, the party already has a blue print on how to turn the fortune of the country around and make the citizens rejoice again as in time of old.

Politics / We'll Industrialise Nigeria To Drive Development, GDPN Presidential Candidate by Armani79(m): 11:25am On Jan 18, 2019
The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Dr Davidson Isibor Akhimien (DIA) has pledged to initiate policy that would industrialise the country if elected President.

Akhimien also pledged to frontally tackle the level of mass illiteracy among Nigerians of school age, which he said, resulted from years of poor level of human capacity development nationwide.

The Presidential hopeful who made the promises during a campaign tour of Oyo state on Wednesday explained that industrialisation would rejig the economy, create more job opportunities for the nation's teeming unemployed youth, boost the Gross Domestic Products(GDP) and Gross National Income(GNI) of the country.

On the tackling illiteracy, Akhimien said literacy programme would free the country from the challenges of having a "critical mass of Nigerians who are unable to comprehend or understand the mechanism of change as being taunted by different political parties."

The campaign rally which took place at the famous Mapo Hall, Ibadan, was attended by the national and state leadership of the party in Oyo State as well as Lagos and Osun States respectively where party flags and emblems were presented to the party's governorship candidates.

While addressing the people, the party's Presidential candidate who was dressed in the symbolic overall coat noted that the dressing is an indication of the party’s readiness to hit the ground running immediately it is elected and sworn - in into office.

He said real change could only come when there is a clear cut direction the expected change would take given the mindset of Nigerians, assuring that the party remains determined to build a new Nigeria.

According to him, GDPN is poised to bring about a new Nigeria that entails taking the issue of education and human capacity development very serious.

He said: “We represent a political elite that is not an armchair kind of political elite, we are a political elite that hit the ground running, so we are attired in this special manner in order to send the message to Nigerians that on the first day when we assume office, we are hitting the ground running. We are workers and not armed chair politicians.

“Our major focus is the industrialization of our country and so, this attire speaks the story and we are going to be reviving our economy by major and massive injections of industrialization policies that will bring about the transformation of our economy and job opportunities for the youths of our country.

“One of the greatest challenges facing Nigerians is the level of illiteracy of majority of our people. As a result of the level of the illiteracy, you will find that human capacity development is abysmally low and so the Nigerian people, a critical mass of them are not able to comprehend or understand the mechanism of change.

“Real change can only occur when there is a comprehension of the direction in which that change will flow, the change of mindset of the people. So, for us as the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), building a new Nigeria, a fresh Nigeria will entail taking the issue of education and human capacity development very seriously, because we believe that no matter what you build, if you build it on faulty foundation, it will come crumbling down like a pack of card.

“So, we don't want a faulty foundation, when you talk about 200million Nigerians, yes, that is good but I am telling you that it avails nothing if 50 or 60 per cent of them are illiterate, so education is going to be taking the major thrust in our policies and programmes.”

The 53years old, ex- military Intelligence Officer of the Nigerian Army, equally pledged to deploy his experience to tackle the security challenges facing the country.

“The state of the security in Nigeria could have been better. Things have really gone bad as regards to security. On every front, we are experiencing cases of insecurity but all of these are surmountable, you just need the knowledge, the know-how and the political will as well as the need to depoliticize issues of national security by the political class.

“As we de-emphasis politics and face it technically, I am telling you a lot will be achieved. But by the grace of the Almighty God, we will surmount all of these problems when we come to power in 2019,” he said.

Politics / 2019: I Will Unmask Sponsors Of Boko Haram Terrorists If Elected – Akhimien by Armani79(m): 7:12am On Jan 12, 2019
Dr. Davidson Akhimien, the Presidential Candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), says his party will fish out and name sponsors of terrorists if elected.

Akhimien told newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday that de-mistifying sponsors of insurgents in Nigeria was the quickest way to end terrorism in Nigeria.

“If voted into power, my priority and that of my party will be security. The party will not leave any stone unturned to fish out the sponsors of terrorists.

“By the time we get the sponsors and stop their funding, then we are halfway into decimating the terrorist groups,” he said.

He noted that if elected, he would also ensure that Nigeria had the required accuracy and sophisticated weapons, saying that the terrorists now deployed very sophisticated weapons.

“We need to get modern weapons for our troops to use, we need to improve on the morale of our youths, their salaries and allowances should get to them as at when due. Insurance for members of their families must be enhanced.

“We have mapped out how we are going to do it; Nigeria will sleep with their eyes closed when I become president. Security is my call.

“Today, Sambisa forest is our area of shame but when I become president, Sambisa will become our area of fame because we are going to turn Sambisa into one of the greatest ranching locations in Africa,” he said

On kidnapping, Akhimien said that the party would decentralise the police into three tiers — the Federal Police, State Police and Provincial Police to curb security threats.

On economy, the presidential candidate said that efforts would be made to promote ease of doing business to rejig the economy and embark on job creation.

He said that unemployment was largely as a result of the mismanagement of the public resources, decay in infrastructure and security situation which had led to shutting down of many companies.

The GDPN candidate said that the party had devised measures to tackle both security and economic problems facing the country if elected.

He said that GDPN is the new face in the Nigerian political landscape and urged Nigerians to shun politicians, especially those who kept promising but failing.

“It is very sad that Nigerians don’t see this time that there is need for them to begin to develop a new political experience based on the new parties and based on the emergence of new political elite that will chat the course for a new Nigeria.

“It is a defining moment in the history of our country and Nigerians need to grasp that and run with a new thing.

“We know we are the one that will bring solace to the Nigerian people. We are growing members and Nigerians are embracing us,” he added.

Akhimien said that his government would look at agriculture, industrialisation, improve power supply of rural communities in addition to setting up mechanised agricultural settlements across the six geo-political zones.

Akhimien said that he was not intimidated by any one or any other political party.

“We are a party that has a very sound ideology; we stand by our ideology; we have a political philosophy that we stand by.

“I am not intimidated in anyway because we are a party that is out to rescue Nigeria and out to bring about the dividends of democracy to the majority so that the critical mass of Nigerians may enjoy their country again.

“We have been blessed as a country, endowed with enormous resources both human and material, why is it that we are not benefiting from what God has blessed us with?.

“It is not about the party, it is about the actions. The actors have not delivered the deliverables of democracy to the people and so, there are new actions (in GDPN). Our party is a game changer,” he added.

According to him, the party has structures in the 36 states of Nigeria and is climbing.

He said that people were embracing GDPN because they desired a new Nigeria.

Politics / We Will Banish Hunger – GDPN Presidential Candidate by Armani79(m): 1:11pm On Jan 11, 2019
The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) Dr. Davidson Akhimien, has said the GDPN would banish hunger from Nigeria when elected to form the government in 2019.

Akhimien said the party would deploy economic and social revival approach through adequate provision of employment for the growing youths who are ready tools in the hands of the enemies of the nation as a result of not being gainfully engaged.

The former military intelligence officer, who spoke in Ijebu – Ode, Ogun State, at the weekend while fielding questions from residents during a rally to kick – start his Southwest Presidential campaign, added that the double pronged approach would be adopted to also tackle the issue of insecurity sweeping across the country.

The polyglot who addressed the teeming audience in Hausa, Igbo 6and Yoruba advised that Nigerians should take the right stand to choose the right candidate come 2019.

The Presidential hopeful explained that he began his private business in Ogun state over 15 years ago with meagre resources, but was able to nurture it to become a business empire today, providing about 8,000 jobs to Nigerians across the country.

“I’m a Nigerian, who feels what you feel . We will transform Sambisa forest to a very huge Agricultural hub; a world class dairy farm, training the north eastern youths, massively engaging them meaningfully.

“The second approach will be strictly centered on reinforcement of the military, in social/ welfare packages for military personnel. We will give enough motivation and encouragement.

“Secondly, the military will be equipped with state of the arts, modern day equipment and other military hardwares,” Akhimien said.

He pledged to lead a massive campaign on food sufficiency as Nigerians would be encouraged to go into mechanized farming, citing Sweden and other Scandinavian countries as places where the people are well fed despite climatic challenges.

Akhimien wondered why quality and affordable food could not be achieved in Nigeria with large expanse fertile arable land and favourable climate.

He also gave insight into how GDPN would the energy crisis in the country, saying the government formed by the party would embark on power generation of 25,000 megawatts for domestic use in Niger households and for massive industrialization.

The presidential candidate urged the people to use their PVC power to sack the present political elites who have subjected Nigerians to untold hardship.

Politics / How US Frustrated Nigeria In Boko Haram War – GDPN Presidential Candidate by Armani79(m): 8:15pm On Jan 10, 2019
Dr. Davidson Isibor Akhimien, the presidential candidate of Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) in an interview with DAILY POST in Abuja explained that the US deliberately denied the country of arms purchase to confront insecurity in Nigeria.
The former Intelligence Chief in the Nigerian Army said, the Army lacked modern equipment and training to fight insurgency and other forms of criminalities.
Excerpts:

As the 2019 general elections draw close amid heightened insecurity, how do you intend to tackle insecurity differently from the way the current government is doing?

I am going to tackle insecurity from two major fronts which are going to be quite a departure from the style the present government is adopting. Like I always say, we are going to tackle insecurity of terrorism in the Northeast, Nigeria. I am going to have it from the domestic political economy and international political economy. We are going to be looking at our military approach. We are going to be strengthening our armed forces. We are looking at retooling and re-equipping our armed forces, changing our inventory to modern inventory that is required for the 21st century asymmetric kind of war fight. Of course, as it is today, most of the insurgents are trained in modern-day fighting techniques. Terrorists use very modern armaments and so never in our history should terrorists be better armed than our armed forces and we should not allow ragtag army while terrorists are better equipped than them. So when I become President, I am going to re-kit our army in tandem with the 21st-century requirements.
Terrorism anywhere in the world is not fought alone by the affected country, but it seems Nigeria is left alone fighting its own terrorists. Other nations of the world are not interested in assisting Nigeria.

What do you think went wrong?

That is what I was talking about in terms of the domestic political economy and an international political economy. If you look at the world today in balance of power situation in international economy, you will find that Nigeria happens to be disadvantaged. Recall when President Barack Obama was in power and Nigerian leadership under Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan asked for arms to be purchased from the United States, we were denied. We went to the United Kingdom to purchase arms, United States prevailed on the UK to deny us and they did. We went to Israel, they denied, we went to South Africa they denied as a result of pressure mounted by the United States, so Nigeria went to the black market and the thing burst. So it is important for Nigeria leadership to understand the interplay of domestic political economy and international political economy when it comes to seeking cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

So if you eventually become the president, would you be doing this immediately in order for the country to enjoy cooperation of other nations in the fight against terrorism.

Your foreign policy has to be astute. Your degree and level of diplomacy have to be in a manner that attracts nations to your nation. We have what we call not only member of international communities, but international non-governmental organisations which go a long way to ensuring that you have relationship with other countries in the international arena. All of these are within the ambit of international political economy.

What legacy would you be remembered for in the next 20 years after you have left presidency for instance?

My legacy would be known for industrialization of the country. Industrialization and empowerment of the youth segment of the society. The entrenchment of the human capacity by a way of modernized educational system. We will put up structures to ensure every child is captured in our educational system and to ensure that never again would there be an illiterate Nigerian.

Has President MuhammaduBuhari led government done anything good that is approved of you?

Yes, if truth be told, this government is passionately fighting corruption and in my view, they are succeeding. They are fighting corruption in every sphere of the system and any right thinking Nigerian should agree to that.

Ahead of 2019 elections, how do you react to the trend of vote buying by some politicians and how can this menace be tackled?

It is important Nigerians should know that the phenomenon of vote buying is an insult to their humanity, an aberration to their humanity, and to their individuality. Why should politicians buy your vote when he needs to earn your vote? I must say that the political class is culpable in vote buying and vote selling phenomenon. A politician that comes to buy your vote is not interested in your welfare. Nigerians should know that kind of politician has made democracy and governance in Nigeria transactional. That is to say, buying and selling, the same way one buys tomatoes and pepper and it means voter has been reduced to a commodity. Nigerians should know that they have more value and worth than that. They should say no to vote buying and any contestant that comes to them for vote buying should be immediately given zero scorecard.

Is the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria envisaging alliances with other political parties in order to deepen your base ahead of 2019 elections given the fact that GDPN is presenting you as presidential candidate for the first time?

The problem of some political parties in Nigeria is somewhat lack of ideologies. As a new entrant into the political space, we have come with a very strong political ideology; we believe in our ideology and for us, it is a new thing altogether. We have come into politics to play politics of 21st century; politics of development. Politics that would serve as a counter-culture to the existing political culture of underdevelopment. Ours is about bringing a revolution into the political space. We are an ideologically based party. We stand by our ideology and we can align with parties that share similar ideology with us.

What actually do you think went wrong with this country that arouses your deep concern?

You are a young man and you may not know what happened in the past. So many things happened. We have experienced a trajectory of awkward experience and a downward slide in our social life and the economy. The livelihood of an average Nigerian in an international arena has been on a downward spiral since the 80s to where we are now. If you go through your history very well, you discover that we are not where we used to be. Indeed, we are throttling towards an abyss. There is insecurity everywhere. There is the inability of an average Nigerian to push his life forward and the lack of affordable accommodation everywhere in the country. Massive unemployment with over 20 million people should give somebody like me sleepless nights. That is a huge percentage. With about 1.8million Internally Displace Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria as at today, that does not speak well of a country like ours.
If you ask me, ”when I become President, what will I like to do” it’s like rebuilding Nigeria all over again. We are haemorrhaging and bleeding in every area of societal life. Now, my administration will be looking at restoring security of lives and properties of Nigerians so that they can sleep with their eyes closed. Security is a primary responsibility of government as captured in the 1999 constitution as amended.
The other thing we are going to be looking at is education which is very key for me. For me as an individual, I weep and I consider as a denial of fundamental human right of any citizen that is deprived of education. When you talk about a country of 200 million people, we should be talking about 200 million highly developed minds and what I mean is with sound education. Unfortunately, the percentage of illiterate people is within a neighbourhood of 60% of the entire population and this is not good enough. The level of educated people is directly proportional to the development of that country. When we are talking of building infrastructure, minds must be developed to maintain that infrastructure, if not, you find out that all your investment in that infrastructure will not be sustainable. Education is key. Educate a man and you have started the building blocks of a nation, because he will know how to comport himself, even, the consequences of population explosion.

The history of governance in Nigeria has been the history of protecting the interest of cabals than delivering dividends of democracy. How would you strike a balance between these two as President?

They are cabals everywhere in the world. In any power system, cabals exist. But it takes the personality of any leader to break through any cabals. It takes the vision, the tenacity and temerity to break through cabals that stand in the way of interest of the nation. Who are those that stand in the way of a leader in the guise of cabals? You are voted in as a president and you must not allow cabals to stop you from discharging your responsibilities.

Politics / CUPP A Fraud From Foundation – Akhimien, GDPN Presidential Candidate by Armani79(m): 8:10pm On Dec 23, 2018
Dr Davidson Isibor Akhimien, the presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) believes that the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) from its foundation was a fraud to grab power not in the interest of Nigeria and its people, but for selfish interest.

Davidson Akhimien’s presidential bid
Akhimien in an exclusive interview with Sunday Sun before the flag-off of his presidential campaign in Bayelsa explained that the promoters of CUPP were not sincere with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed, which he claimed was demonstrated through its breach. This, he said, was not different from the retrogressive politics that has held the country down for so long. According to him, GDPN promises a new vision for Nigeria different from the ones the recycled politicians have failed to deliver to Nigerians.

What made you to withdraw from CUPP?
A situation where people are looking for power at all costs, there are a lot of deceit; there are a lot of half-truths. At a time that the MoU was signed by different party chairmen, the agreement was that there would be two primaries. The first primaries would be for the constituent units to pick their presidential candidates; the second primaries would be for all the presidential candidates of CUPP that emerged where a selection is going to be made through a transparent process. But that was not to be. We found this to be a total miscarriage and a travesty of justice and the process. The moment Atiku Abubakar emerged as the PDP presidential candidate; he just went and picked his running mate whereas CUPP MoU stated that after the emergence of the consensus presidential candidate, other positions would be filled by the other presidential candidates. Secondly, most of the political parties chairmen became presidential candidates of their parties, where is that done expect in Nigeria and nobody called them to question. So, the whole arrangement was not in the interest of Nigeria and the people, but for self interest. And most of these political parties you are talking about are by proxies. So, there was what I called a pre-conceived arrangement. So, it was fraud from the beginning and we cannot be part of a fraud. We had looked forward to the emergence of a fresh party with a fresh face to take Nigeria out of the doldrums that the old recycled politicians had kept us, we didn’t see that happen, and we would not be part of retrogression; so we are advancing without CUPP.

Why are you contesting for the presidency?
I am contesting for the presidency because I have the capacity, the competence and the pedigree. I have the experience. As Nigerians we are tired of the experience of the old order, an experience that has paid off for the teeming mass majority of our people. This is why I am running for the highest office in the country so that I can entrench politics of social justice, a politics of inclusiveness, politics based on righteousness, morality and not the debauchery we find around. I am running for the office in order to clean the stable.

What in your understanding do you think has gone wrong with Nigeria?
It is very clear for all to see. We are inundated on a daily basis by the activities and actions of our politicians, especially in the area of corruption. You see how our nation is being torn apart along the fault lines of religion and ethnicity. It has been a very difficult thing to build nationhood in Nigeria. The integration and cohesion needed to put the country together and focus on developmental issues are not there. We are playing politics of greed, avarice and politics that pander to the self. A lot of things have been wrong and I would summarise them in four points. In the first place where we are as nation compared to other countries that got independence at the same time with us is nothing to write home about. If we look at these countries: Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and put them side by side with Nigeria, you will see that we are still lagging behind. If you look at all the United Nations Index on nations in the healthcare delivery and human development index, you would find that we are way behind. Recently, when talking about terrorism, Nigeria was mentioned, our own Nigeria has become the third country in terms of global rating of terrorism, something that used to be an anathema. In the human development index, Nigeria is rated 152 out 157 countries. When you look at all of these things you would see that there is a lacuna in the area of visionary leadership. Visionary leadership is what took Singapore to where it is today; visionary leadership is what took UAE to where it is today; it is what took China to where it is today. Today, China is bursting loose. Visionary leadership is what is taking a country like Rwanda and making it a model for democracy for Africa. Nigeria is lagging behind. This is not the Nigeria of our expectations. It would appear that successful leaderships have not been able to take us to Uhuru. So, visionary leadership is one area I have identified that we have missed it. The other thing I have identified is governance. Poor governance is defined by the poor infrastructure you find all over the place. Poor governance is defined by the insecurity that pervades the country; poor governance is defined in the stifling of institutions of democracy that should hold society. There is poor governance and Nigerians are just looking and complaining on the sidelines. Nigerians need to take the bull by the horns. It is time for a turn around. Enough is enough. Thirdly, our politics is not played along the lines of development. Politics is all about development. Even if you say politics is group interest or contestation for power, even the groups as encapsulated in space and time in this country show me the development. The terrorism we are experiencing in the Northeast today is largely as a result of disconnect between governance and the governed. There is lack of provision of basic amenities for the common man. That is why today when Boko Haram offers a better life for the recruits you find them pandering to them. That is why they continue to recruit as many of them that are dying. They find it lucrative to align with a parallel government. Finally, we need the restoration of moral values. It is in consonance with the common good. Today, we live a lie in this country. There are no more family values. A father lies to his children. Children lie to their parents. A child indulges in 419, which they call Yahoo Yahoo and parents would be cheering them on. There is no wrong any longer. So, how can you now build a nation on falsehood? Our politics is now monetised and that is why we are in this quagmire. The electorate would expect you to give them money and tomorrow they would say politicians are corrupt. Culpability is both ways. Nigerians have to change their thinking. We have to sacrifice for once to bring about the desired change. There is no good thing that comes without sacrifice. Nigerians have to sacrifice this time around.

Why did you choose Bayelsa to flag off your campaign?
Indeed, it could have been any other state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. However, Bayelsa to me is a very special state. It is special to the economy of Nigeria as presently constituted by the way of what we contribute to the GDP. Nigeria is largely a mono-cultural economy and a larger part of that come from the South-south and Bayelsa is a major state. So, it is in recognition of that contribution to the economy of Nigeria, I decided to honour Bayelsa to flag-off my campaign.

Politics / Consensus Candidate: We’re Not Part Of Atiku’s Endorsement – GDPN by Armani79(m): 7:13am On Dec 06, 2018
Few hours after the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) announced the endorsement of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as its consensus candidate, the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), has distanced itself from such an arrangement.

A statement signed by the Presidential Candidate of GDPN, Dr. Davidson Isibor Akhimien, said the party was not aware nor in support of the CUPP decision to endorse Atiku.

CUPP, is the umbrella body of about 45 major opposition parties in the country.

A statement signed by Akhimien said he was shocked by the CUPP pronouncement, saying at as the time the meeting to endorse Atiku was ongoing in Abuja, he was in Lagos, adding the party’s hierarchy was equally not in any way part of the arrangement.

Akhimien said his party was not part of the negotiation by CUPP and would therefore not abandon his mission to bring solution the nation’s myriads of problem.

According to the GDPN presidential candidate, his party from outset was determined to pursue an agenda that would enthrone a new and better Nigeria where there will be equity and justice for all, adding that, jettisoning the vision, would amount to a betrayal of trust of his followership.

‘ ‘For him and GDPN to abandon the mission of salvaging the country from the hands of old and recycled politicians responsible for the country’s total retrogression and stagnation will be a huge setback for the party”

We can’t take Nigerians back to the dark ages. I want to state that the time to move Nigerian forward is now. We are a new party on a rescue mission. We can’t mortgage the future of our great Nation.

We defer to the CUPP endorsement of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We are on ground in the whole 36 states of the federation, and the FCT,’’.

He maintained that, the CUPP arrangement is a major setback to democracy, saying the party remains focused and is concentrating on its campaign across the nook and crannies of the country, stating that the news making the rounds would not in anyway deter it.

CUPP, had few hours after a closed door deliberation at the Yar’ Adua Centre Abuja yesterday announced Atiku as the consensus candidate of the opposition in the 2019 election.

The Convener of CUPP, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who made the disclosure while addressing a world press conference held at Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, said the former Vice President met the criteria used in the choice of a presidential candidate for the coalition. Oyinlola said the CUPP; an umbrella body of 45 registered political parties in the alliance arrived at the decision based on the candidate’s (Atiku) experience in administration, management of economy and politics.

Politics / People Now Find It Difficult To Survive In Nigeria - Presidential Candidate by Armani79(m): 8:28am On Dec 02, 2018
The presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) Davidson Isibor Akhimien, has declared that his decision to become the president of Nigeria in 2019 stems from the current frustration among citizens of the country. Akhimien, an Edo state indigene, said in a statement by his media team that Nigerians have become disillusioned over the political climate in the country as well as the conduct of politicians. "Political parties and politicians have not been able to satisfy the minimum aspiration of the citizenry as problems of insecurity, lack of social justice, unemployment, abject poverty and others have left people disillusioned. Akhimien lamented that years after the country's independence, there is no cohesion, no proper integration of the different people of Nigeria as a result of primordial sentiments. The team noted that Akhimien strongly believes that the 21st century Nigeria has witnessed the emergence of a new crop of citizens who do not care about ethnicity, religion and other tools used by the political class in holding the nation back. Akhimien, a former military officer, said he is "propelled by the fact that real transformation for the country is possible" with him. He firmly believes that building a strong and virile economy, creating a secure environment for the citizenry can be realized and this can be achieved through the GDPN. "This transformation begins with the liberation and renewal of people’s minds as poverty over time has held many Nigerians hostage courtesy of the existing old parties with recycled politicians. "As a party, GDPN places no emphasis on money politics because its interest is to have the people at heart, because money politics over the years, has sold the people’s destiny out. "With the like of Davidson Akhimien emerging as the president, industrialization in Nigeria will tilt more to the rural areas rather than the current concentration in urban areas. "With a shift of the industries to rural communities, there will be a drastic reduction in the rural-urban migration. "The resultant positive effect of this would also be a reduction in the rate at which Nigerian youths sell themselves into slavery in small countries like Libya or die in the Mediterranean in an attempt to get to Europe in search for a better life. "The GDPN as a party believes that if Nigeria is properly managed, youths from other countries would flock the country and not what obtains now," the media team said, adding that his aspiration is divine.
