Well said,even if the equipments are purchased for the institution without embeslement,we don't have the qualified personnel to operate these equipments in those institution as they will be damaged before the year runs out. Most of the equipments in most of our polytechnics are new but has been damaged by unqualified personels.I went to one of these poytechnics during october last year,there i saw one ward Leonard machine & it was the current model but it has been damaged by one of  the lecturers who claimed to be qualified for the operation. I managed to  operate it by twisting some of the terminals together without the knobs cause some of the knobs are no more intact, i can't imagine the so called qualified personels glancing at me as if am performing magick.This is where the problem is,can they use it for the purpose of teaching & learning?some of these lecturers can not even supervise simple project given to OND students before defense. I don't know where this country is heading to.

we need to invite guest lecturer from western university on regular bases to help out with such technical stuff. And more importantly industries and school should have close relationship.

True! I just wanted to be sure if there is a law that says that FG holds the sole responsibility and right to power generation, or if its a Nigerian policy rather than a law. well I guess there is no way of me finding that out now.

Kobo, please can you tell me which part of the Nigerian constitution that says that the government holds the sole responsibility to provide Nigerians with electricity. sorry, I am not conversant with Nigerian legislation.

Correction! It does matter who provides electricity to the local community. I know we like to pretend we can continue to ignore rules and laws whenever it pleases us but whenever it comes back to bite us, the same people who were initially in support, tend to throw their hands up, feign amnesia, fowl as if they were suddenly victims in it all.

Other places in the world are not Nigeria where Government still holds the sole responsibility and right to power generation for the masses. Provision of public amenities by private firms, in other countries where they are free to do so legally should not be put at the same side of having the same in a country where Government holds sole right and responsibility for it all.

Demanding a private entity provide electricity in a country where entities other than Government have no legal right to do so is a breach of our rules. States are still struggling with this and for the Federal Government to then decide to side-step it's own rules here, would probably lead to larger repercussions in the near future.
Also, if Chevron is to provide electricity to these communities, is Chevron also allowed to charge these communities at it's desired rate? Or is the Federal Government going to fork over payment for that? We are still battling the issue of rate at the national level, so if the Government then chooses to pay for the supply to these community, why not other communities?

^^^ The FG told chevron to provide electricity to the local community because they know chevron has the capacity to do it. At the end of the day, it does not matter who provides the community in question with electricity, what matters is that they have electricity.   surly there must be other places in the world were private companies provides public amenities like electricity to their local communities.

African leaders are shameless. somebody should slap that Wade of Senegal.  

Interestingly Chevron is one of the energy company that has showed interest in providing electricity to Nigerians on a large scale. If anything, this is more like a publicity thing for Chevron. so its is a win win situation for them.

It is obvious that all these "commentators" do not live in any part of the Niger Delta! Come to Bonny Island, all the electricity produced is generated by NLNG and Shell. Here we have constant stable and efficient power supply, all most free. This is a local government area and not just a community. NLNG also provides water. They even provide trucks to carry the water to areas where there are no pipeline borne water.

In addition, to a technical college, first class. They are almost taking over the General Hospital here by their provision of doctors and nurses. They provide free boat services to Port Harcourt every day and many more. Roads sef, dem dey construct, many things sef!

NLNG, Shell, Mobil, una do well! Make una do more.

So Chevron cannot run away, let them provide the light. Nobody is asking them to increase capacity, give the extra to the people. By the way, do you peeps know where Escravos is? It is only accessible by water, so when will PHCN or government get there!

Good question. Some peeps here forget that Nigeria is a very poor country; normally it would take Nigeria at least a hundred years to provide electricity to a remote place like that.

Hardly can i find anything wrong with this directive.
1. Chevron generates 90mw and uses only 40mw, they can use the remaining 50mw to power d small communities around. They r not being asked to generate more or provide 24hr electricity but to donate d excess they generate.
2. Its their right to either accept it or deny it, since its not binding on them.
