Dangote should refine fuel

99% of poor Nigerians doesn’t patronize diesel

Na fuel be the koko if they wanna help the poor

Is diesel not a fuel? Besides, reduced diesel price would force down the prices of commodities due to lower production and freight costs.

That profit is not generic, because you cannot be profitable and be closing down at the same time. No doubt only the seriously deep pocketed and widely diversified will survive the economic policies of this administration

A business not being profitable as a result of poor economic policies is different from being eclipsed by competition. As is clear here, the company realised that they stand no chance. Hence, their decision to pull out.

Business / How Do You Know If A Prospect Is A Serious Buyer? by Artbydris(m): 2:29pm On Oct 31, 2022
Every other day, my clients behave very differently, and I understand that things are relative for everyone, but for me, there are usually some disparities between those who just want to ask questions and those who really want to buy.

95% of the time (not 100% because it appears incredulous ) I can always guess if a prospect is wasting my time just from the first question or first line of their sentence.

Whenever I get a first question like " How much is your artwork? " Or just "how much? " and statements like "send me pictures of your artworks," and "send me pictures of your works and their prices," or perhaps if I go a step further by asking which particular one and the response is like "all of them" I know already that the prospect would still ask for many more pictures without buying anything, I learnt this after dealing with numerous lot. So, these days, rather than sifting through my album for pictures, I just send them a link to my Instagram or my online catalogue and most times, the conversation usually end there, no matter how much I follow up, and if genuine interest is shown, their budget is usually well below the acceptable threshold.

On the other hand, a serious prospect usually sends me a picture of one of my works with a caption like, "is this artwork available? " Or "I love this artwork, how much for it?" Almost 100% of these end up converting and it is very thrilling.

In conclusion, most of the prospects who convert know what they want and usually go straight for it from the onset, while most on the other side of the divide appear to throw open the options, like in window shopping.

Do you have similar experience?

Lol. It is sustainable, every hustle requires a strategy. All my works are non figurative, yet I make sales. I make utility art as well. Also, minting is free on Polygon.

A lot of artists are not valued and their works are less appreciated.
I create and sell more of my works as NFTs than commissions.
As a Nigerian artists , you need not to rely on art as your soul source of income especially the yet to be established artists.

You're absolutely right. Generate most of my income from model making, I exhibit occasionally too though.

Well.....to me art is still a noble profession which I'm proud of. it is a profession meant for the elite and appreciated by the selected rich and exposed individuals which we still have many of them around to patronize the artist. Like I have client who love art so much that he has over 50pieces of my creative works in his building. Yes there are those who appreciate Art and can afford it.

When are we going to build an aircraft carrier?
When are we going to have military and naval bases in neighboring countries?
We should aspire for bigger achievements, not necessarily little things like this.

Not every advanced nation aspire regional military power, while we can develop our capabilities, we don't need bases in neighbouring countries. That's a great misplace of priority except we want to start meddling in their politics.

Nigeria, unlike the US, Australia and most of Europe and east Asia has a very low risk of an external conflict. We could work to become a major arms exporter though.
Career / How Do You Survive As An Artist In Nigeria? by Artbydris(m): 3:02pm On Sep 18, 2022
Whenever I meet someone new, one of the first questions I get is, "Are you making sales?"

I used to be quite taken aback by the question but I soon realised that the question is not out of place.

The world art market is a lopsided world which favours the established and known artists much more than the emerging and new artists. But in Nigeria, it is much worse. Like I stated in a TVC interview not too long ago, the Nigerian art industry is plagued by a general lack of appreciation for art.

The average Nigerian art lover who has many 'artworks' at home does not particularly care if the artwork in his living room is a printed picture randomly picked from the internet or a plagiarised piece of art. To the untrained eye, if it is a beautiful painting, pottery or sculpture, then it is art.

And for the people who have managed to develop techniques and styles way different from what is traditionally known, many are generally out of the conversation. Even the so called curators tend to relegate the works to the world of craft while others advice them to make 'sellable' art.

This puts so many artists jostling for sales to make more of the art types that sell, while many focus on painting celebrities to push their art. But are they to blame?

Now the problem with the so called sellable art is that the artist has endeavoured to water down the art of self expression, focusing mainly on what the audience wants to see and not necessarily what is right or true to him.

As it occurs, even the few who 'genuinely' love art will only agree to buy your best works for a fraction of the price you would sell them abroad, while praising your creativity and admiring the aesthetics.

The clamour for the return of Nigerian artefacts from foreign museums and collectors is a fine curtain that appears to highlight how much our artefacts are valued by us, but are they, really? History has it that many of the artefacts had to be dug up, does the fact that they were buried show how much they were valued by us? Or did we only start valuing them after they were taken from us? Do we even deserve these artworks other than for the reason that they are ours? Had they not been plundered and taken abroad, would we have eventually expressed the immense value that we have for them? Or would they still have been underground? That is left to be said.

If you are a Nigerian artist, I would love to know how easy you find traversing the Nigerian art terrain and how you manage to make sales and build an enviable life.

The idea that girls like fair guys more only lives in your head. You need to hustle up and make a difference and see how girls would love you more, genuine girls love accomplishments, not light skin.

Perhaps, the 'girls' you're implying are simply your street girls.
