PoliticsHow Much Is Your Vote Worth? by asamuel(op): 5:14am On Apr 07, 2011
A notable party is buying votes? Will you sell yours? Read this and get life!

As the general elections draw closer, politicians are getting desperate to get more people to cast their votes in their favour.

Last week, I witnessed an amazing drama unfold as a politician tried frantically to convince my neighbour to cast his vote for a party. When the politician realized that his effort was getting him nowhere, he decided to use the power in his pocket. He brought out a bundle of N200 notes and dangled it in my neighbour’s face, basically the way you would dangle some bait to an animal you are trying to catch.

“How much is your vote?” he asked, with a deceptive smile on his face.

My neighbour hesitated for a moment, and then he grabbed a piece of paper and began to scribble down something. When he finished writing, he handed the piece of paper to the politician saying, “This is the value of my vote.”

The politician went through the paper briefly and then squeezed and threw it away, in my direction. He hurried away, saying that my neighbour wasn’t being rational.

My neighbour, realizing I was watching, picked up the paper and said, waving the paper at me, “Am I being irrational?”

I collected the paper and took a quickly look at it. He had written on the paper the breakdown of his family’s expenses, which the government (according to him) had so far failed to provide or make available for its citizens. He then multiplied everything by four (4) years. Something like this:

Security - N20,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N960,000

Generator - N40,000 per 2 years x 2 = N80,000

Fuel for generator - N1,000 per day x 365 days x 4 years = N1,460,000

Potable water - N500 per day x 365 days x 4 years = N730,000

Healthcare Insurance - N10,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N480,000

Education - N5,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N240,000

Housing - N500,000 per year x 4 years = N2,000,000

Total - N5,950,000 (five million nine hundred and fifty thousand naira)

“Well,” he explained as I continued to stare at his breakdown, “if asking for the basic necessities of life is not being rational, I wonder what is rational?”

“I wasn’t trying to be difficult,” he continued. “I believe this is a modest breakdown of expenses considering I have a wife and a kid. If you have a larger family, the value of your vote may be much higher than this,” he concluded.

So, my dear friend, if you want to sell your vote, I won’t say “don’t.” But, be like my neighbour. Make sure it is “worth its weight in gold.”

Fashola floored them all again. My prayer is that God will protect him and help him to do more in Lagos before 2015. By 2015, I am ready to vote for his presidential ticket and even back him with funds. We will organize rally, funding and international aids for him to get to Aso Villa because he knows the problems of this country. I also thank God that Nigeria is growing --- before now we could have voted hooligans without scrutinizing them well.

TOP 10 REASONS YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR JONATHAN BADLUCK.

Clueless Leadership - The main misfortune of the Jonathan presidency is the lack of drive that has characterized it from its inception. Jonathan found greatness trust on him and has no idea of what to do with it. The reason we cry out against poor leadership in Nigeria is because Nigeria offers the greatest opportunity for any sound leader to prove himself. Jonathan's leadership is clueless in regards to tackling the myriads of problems bedeviling Nigeria and if offered the next 50 years to rule he would do nothing.
Nigerians Seeking Something New - If the truth be told this country has been ruled by the same set of people and thier initiates, and Nigerians are seeking for something new. Those who are opting for the Jonathan ticket are people who are hardly thinking the man through. Many of his adherents some weeks ago have switched camp to Buhari as they are gradually reallising he has got nothing to offer them in the new republic.
End to the PDP misrule - PDP has ruled this nation for the past 12 years with nothing to show for it. Analyst say that the revenue we have earned from oil in this past 12 years surpass all we ever earned since the nation was birth in 1914! PDP and their cohorts have fed themselves fat on this nations' resources and the cry in most places now is "anything but this politically demonized people or people destroying people sect"!
End to Waste - The Jonathan presidency is touted as the largest ever in the world (or at least in our nation's history). The man in want of what to use money for created a special assistant to the Diaspora! Foreign reserve is depleted and the naira is being treatened with devaluing, the man has opened the nation to becoming a dumping site for tokunbo cars and cloths. The national assembly is passing bills daily increasing their remuneration under his nose and his doing nothing, etc.
End to Psychophancy - I wonder if Jonathan was to come on his own merit wihtout the absurd incumbency factor, if he would we even win his home state, talk less of Nigeria. Everyone is singing Jonathan for his stomach sake and for those who do it on the internet, it is because they are not thinking!
Opportunity for a Sovereign National Conference - President Good luck Jonathan has never for once mentioned the issue or the possibility of an SNC. If a referendum is to be held in Nigeria I bet a large percentage would opt for a split (even if not a major percentage). There are many people groups who feel cheated in this country and who need to voice their opinion in an SNC. The present constitution is said to be made by the military and an SNC can help map out another. Also the Niger Deltans need to tell us what they want so this incessant militancy in that part can stop. And so on.
Good Riddance to this "Dame" Thing - One of the greatest irritants and misfortune to the GEJ government is the re-enactment of the office of a first lady. A ROGUE OFFICE THAT IS NOT EVER NAMED IN OUR CONSTITUTION. Worst still, unlike the mesmerizing Maryam Babangida, this one is an embarrassment to Nigerians everywhere she speaks. Can this nation endure the existence of another DAME in the corridors of power. Lest we forget, the corruption charges hung on her at the inception of her husband's tenure has not been proven wrong but only swept under by our Farida's toothless EFCC. What also is this parallel campaign this woman is carrying out with state money for her husband.
Cheating the Incumbency Factor: Jonathan would have gone into Nigeria's history book as one who organized free and fair elections, and did not take advantage of the power of incumbency if he had not chosen to run for office. We would have sought for him in some years to come to come and rule. Instead he chose the path of ignominy. The power of incumbency will fail this time around.
Nigeria needs more than Goodluck! - Nigeria needs good governance; we need insightful, visionary and purposeful leadership; we need a leader with drive, who can think for himself and not one who has won over his supporter with a cloak of false humility. We need more than goodluck; we need goodgovernance.
The end of OBJ Influence - Jonathan should not be voted for so we may rid ourselves from this evil from Owu. OBJ has a certain aura of evil around and until God's judgment falls on him, Nigerian would help themselves by ridding themselves of him when they do not vote Jonathan because he just a pun in the hands of the Abeokuta old warlord: that unrepentant apostle of Do or Die Politics.
PoliticsRe: Do Non - Northerners Support Buhari? by asamuel: 8:31pm On Mar 26, 2011
@OZIN. Your profile has betrayed you. You are living in Australia. You are not even going to vote. You are not even facing the threats of insecurity, the lack of electricity, the infrastructural decay in Nigeria. Most supporters of GEJ are living outside Nigeria. God punish all those who ran out of Nigeria and are now supporting corruption and insecurity from abroad.

PoliticsRe: A Revolution In The Making Buhari Bakare (Tears Of Joy) by asamuel: 5:58pm On Mar 26, 2011
@Princek12. Nigeria does not lack people with degrees. We lack people who can stand against corruption. Jonathan has demonstrated that he cannot solve Nigeria's problem of corruption by associating with OBJ, Bode George and Dame Patience. All these people have bags of corruption hanging on their neck. How then can jonathan help Nigeria if these men are behind him? That's why Buhari's past achievements are working for him.

Did you get it?

PoliticsRe: A Revolution In The Making Buhari Bakare (Tears Of Joy) by asamuel: 5:29pm On Mar 26, 2011
@Princek12. Please don't confuse GEJ's PhD paper with literacy. What use is a PhD president that cannot debate, that confessed to America that he lacks administrative skills, that got a stark illiterate as wife, that climbs on OBJ to take every decision? Did you see how he was messed up during our golden anniversary in Nigeria. Up till now, JEG cannot fish out the bombers of October 1, 2010 and we are 5 months away from the incident.

I'll rather have an illiterate that knows where the shoe pinches and can act to fix Nigeria's promise. What do you think @Princek12?
PoliticsRe: A Revolution In The Making Buhari Bakare (Tears Of Joy) by asamuel: 3:44pm On Mar 26, 2011
Nigerian youths, here is change at last. I am for anything outside PDP. Let's support the opposition because PDP has ruined this nation enough. If you see anyone supporting PDP and jonathan, he will fall under any of the following:

1) He is benefitting from the corruption in the land
2) He is tribalistic and believes that the North has ruled enough instead of looking at the issues at hand
3) He can't just reason enough - brainwashed by PDP supporters
4) He is braindamaged - cannot look at the antecedents of PDP in the land

why vote GEJ? Within one year see what GEJ has done,

1. Resuscitated our refineries,
,
2. Virtually stamped out Niger Delta militancy with the effective and conscientious implementation of the Amnesty programme,

3. Gave free hand and supported the CBN to deal with the banking crisis such that no bank failed,

4. Revived the textile sector and the manufacturing industry through bail-out funds,

5. Fixed Enugu International Airport,

6. Given latitude (without interference from the Attorney General as was the case under Yar'adua and OBJ) to the EFCC to investigate and prosecute corruption cases without undermining human rights and the rule of law (including a serving Minister of State in his cabinet!),

7. Allowed PDP to lose the gubernatorial election in Anambra State and House of Assembly re-run election in Edo State without interference as was the case under OBJ,

8. Implementing a successful power sector reform roadmap which he initiated such that we have attained 4,000MW for the FIRST TIME IN TEN (10) YEARS and which generation level is still rising,

9. Privatised the first power station,

10.Encouraged and allowed a robust political contest without oppressing his opponents as a true tolerant democrat,

11. Conceived and presented the Sovereign Wealth Fund in place of the illegal and unconstitutional Excess Crude Account which was DEPLETED UNDER YAR'ADUA,

12. Encouraged the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill which OBJ virtually killed,

13. Currently pushing through the Petroleum Industry Bill which will soon be passsed and promises to empower Nigerian entrepreneurs in the oil and gas industry,

14. Successfully checked kidnappings in the South East (particularly Abia State) such that Kelechi Deca and our other Igbo brothers enjoyed the most peaceful, fear-free christmas in 2010,

15. Engaging effectively with all parties in Jos to bring TRUE AND LASTING PEACE TO THE PLATEAU rather than the knee-jerk approach of OBJ who imposed a State of Emergency that failed in resolving the real problem or UYM who allowed his tribal and religious lenses to colour his intervention in the crisis which worsened the distrust in the state.

JONATHAN STRAIGHT!
