THE ₦86.67 BILLION QUESTION: LET THE DOCUMENTS SPEAK.

There has been lots of argument about what Peter Obi left behind when he handed over the government of Anambra State in March 2014.

Rather than rely on political arguments, let us go back to the document.

Peter Obi's 2014 handover report, dated March 17, 2014 and addressed to his successor, Governor Willie Obiano, stated the financial position of Anambra State as at the close of business on March 14, 2014, the final working day of his administration.

According to the report, the figures included:
• ₦27 billion in local investments
• US$156 million, valued at approximately ₦26.5 billion, in foreign currency investments
• ₦28.17 billion in certified State and MDA balances
• ₦10 billion in an approved Federal Government refund

These figures amounted to approximately ₦91.67 billion. The report then made provision for about ₦5 billion in estimated liabilities, including March salaries, pensions, gratuities and approved certificates for already executed projects.

The resulting figure recorded in the document as the NET BALANCE was ₦86,665,985,574.06.

It is therefore inaccurate to present the ₦86.67 billion simply as ₦86 billion cash sitting in a bank account.

The handover document describes a broader financial position involving cash balances, investments and an approved refund.

More importantly, the document demonstrates that there was a formal financial handover to the incoming administration.

Peter Obi's covering letter stated that the summary of the full financial statement of Anambra State was being forwarded to Willie Obiano as part of the handover process.

Former SSG Oseloka Obaze has also stated that he witnessed the handover and that Obiano signed for receipt of the document.

So, when discussing Anambra's finances, the responsible question should not be who can shout the loudest.

The question should be:
What did the official records show at the point of transition, what liabilities were disclosed, what assets and investments were transferred, and what happened to them afterward?

That is how serious public accountability should work.
If there are claims that Peter Obi left additional debts or undisclosed liabilities, those claims should be matched against the 2014 handover documents and independently verifiable financial records.

If there are claims concerning the ₦86.67 billion, the public deserves the same thing: documents, figures, dates and proper accounting.

Politics should not replace records.

Let the documents speak. Let the figures be examined. Let Nigerians decide what the evidence shows.

We will not leave any opposition claim unresearched and dig out the actual truth, facts, figures and bring it out to the general public.

Peter Obi is a living political legend since the history of Nigeria.

Health officers can be called on emergency anytime of the day and night - judges can't. So they need better quarters in well secured and accessible locations to the hospitals

There are a lot of grey areas in this Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan's CV as put forward in the Statehouse Press Release signed by Mr Bayo Onanuga.
Let me speak to just a few of them for now:
1. He was born in 1967. There's no problem in that.
2. 'After completing primary and secondary education', he attended Kwara state Polytechnic... from 1982 to 1984.
Note: we are neither told the names of the primary and secondary schools he attended, nor the time lines of his attendance.
Moreover, by 1982 when he was said to have attended the Kwara state Polytechnic; he was just 15. How did he do it back then? Maybe if we have the details of his primary and secondary schools attendance, we would have better understanding. Additionally, what did he study at the Polytechnic?
3. He attended University of Jos 1984-1987 to study law.
How did he get a law degree in Nigeria within 3 years? Law is 5 years.
4. He got his PhD in 2007.
But he became the Head (of Department) of Public Law 2006-2008, and Dean of the Law Faculty 2008-2014. That means that he became the Head of Department before earning his PhD, and the Dean of faculty one year after his PhD. How did these happen in a federal university, not even in a mushroom private university?
I have a fair understanding of the academic. Such things don't happen. I believe the people who packaged this CV owe us more explanation of the missing links in the CV.
