It's just unfortunate that we just read a story and start bashing. Many people parade themselves as doctors. Every male working in the hospital is perceived as doctor and every female as nurse be they cleaner,CHEW,porter, mortuary attendants etc. If this matter is investigated, we might discover that this person in question didn't even go to higher institution but, being in the hospital environment, he feels he has learned that art of medicine and then can be an "honorary doctor", giving the medical profession a bad light. Well anything goes in Nigeria. It's not normal for someone to remove the 2 ovaries instead of appendix, I mean,the anatomy is not the same. Oophorectomy(ovary removal)is even much more difficult to do than appendectomy.

Carrying my 2 Dc fans, 4 bulbs, Tv and charging my laptop/phones and a warranty on the battery of 6-8years, I am ok. Our perspective of moderate budget may be different though. I think they have a flexible payment plan too. I think it's 168k to pay over 1,2or 3years. I am not sure if it's still at that price.

In a situation where the hospital does not have the capacity(expertise and facility)to treat such kind of traumatic case, they refer. REFERRAL is part of medical practice and it does not mean the patient has been REJECTED.

If only you know what it takes to be a consultant,then you will know that getting a Ph.D is unnecessary and far below the residency fellowship program that makes the consultant who he/she is. Consultancy is not a title earned but a product of rigorous 6-8 years academic/professional training. It's plain ignorance and politics that NUC and the rest are displaying. Please keep urging NUC on while doctors continue to move out to other countries. Las las who go suffer am?.

Maybe NUC actually goofed by allowing them lecture and become Professors without PhD in the past but it seems they realized their error.

The consultants want to continue becoming Professors without PhD. I laugh! Do they actually know the rigors of becoming a PhD holder?
They are not bigger than NUC that regulates them so if NUC says they cant become Professors without PhD then they should either join their colleagues who go on to acquire PhD or get out.

It's a pity how people pounce on unsubstantiated information and begin to rant. Where is our education taking us to?. Who among all you commenting can say for Sure that the blood type was wrong? Who can tell us what disease the boy had and how severe before presenting to the hospital?, can anybody tell us the drug in question and the wrong dosage?. If you have answers to these questions, please cast your stones. I understand that nothing is really working in Nigeria, health sector inclusive but many doctors and Nurses are trying. There are bad eggs in every profession,no doubt.

With this degree and percentage burns in the picture attached, it is not a general hospital case. There's a unit in teaching hospitals called BURNS and PLASTIC UNIT where this kind of case is handled. I don't have the details of this story but going to "all the GENERAL HOSPITALS" is actually unbelievable. People see REERRAL as REJECTION in this clime.

My brother, one by one we will leave this country for them. When they go on strike they lock up instruments and other things just to make sure things don't work in the hospital because their mere absence changes little. When doctors when on strike all hell was let loose by nigerians but nobody even recognizes the fact that JOHESU has been on strike for over 2 months.

In a bizarre act of aggression, members of the
Joint Health STAFF Union (JOHESU) were at the
weekend alleged to have stormed the
premises of Gwarinpa General Hospital, Abuja, to
unleash terror on
any visible personnel, especially doctors on duty.
They were also said
to have vandalised property.
The President of the Association of Resident
Doctors, Federal Capital
Territory (FCT) chapter, Dr. Isaac Akerele, who
narrated the incident,
said it was an act of “sheer luck for many
doctors who were on duty
to have escaped the onslaught”.
Members of the JOHESU comprising nurses,
pharmacists, laboratory
scientists, physiotherapists and non-health
workers had since
November, 2014, been on strike in protest against
government refusal
to meet their demands.
Akerele, however, expressed sadness that a very
senior doctor was
unlucky and she was terribly manhandled.
He said the attackers broke down all the
entrance to the main block
including the laboratory and later shot canister
of tear gas that
triggered severe respiratory distress that
necessitated intensive care
resuscitation.
Although the reason for JOHESU action was not
stated, he noted, it
was apparent that they were angered by the fact
that Doctors had
been successfully attending to patients even with
JOHESU on strike.
Akerele described the action of the health
workers as a barbaric,
totally condemnable, unacceptable and a fatal
error.
He said his association was reliably informed that
the group was led
by one Shuaib Onucheyo, a Laboratory Technician
with Nyanya
General Hospital, who was believed to belong to
the militant wing of
JOHESU, carrying out this attack on hospitals and
doctors.
He said: “This group came to the Gwarimpa
General Hospital with all
manners of weapons, including firearms that was
used to shoot tear
gas canisters into the hospital.
“This attack left many, including patients
injured, with some in critical
conditions at the intensive care unit especially a
very senior colleague
who was attending to preterm babies at the time
of this attack.
“We are calling on all authorities especially the
Inspector General of
Police (IG) to urgently investigate the sources of
the weapons used.
We equally call on the FCT Administration (FCTA)
to investigate and
apply public service rules to protect our members
on call.”
“To this effect, a letter has been sent to the FCT
authorities. In this
regard, I have directed our lawyers to institute a
legal action against
these persons and the body they represent for
damages.
” As law abiding professionals, we do not want to
take laws into or
hands but we are sending strong warnings to any
groups or persons
or associations to stop harassing our members. To
be forewarned is
to be forearmed,” he cautioned.
In a related development, Akerele expressed the
association’s appeal
to politicians to invest in the health sector, as
they campaign for next
month’s general election. He said the provision of
excellent health
infrastructure and better investment should be a
priority to the
politicians.
Meanwhile, the leadership of JOHESU in the
country has been urged
to end the nation-wide strike entering three
months now for the sake
of the suffering masses.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), University of
Uyo Teaching Hospital
(UUTH), Prof. Etete Peters, at a chat with
journalists in Uyo, Akwa
Ibom State, weekend said it was unprofessional
for the health workers
to be on such a prolong strike.
