People are still talking about negligence of the doctor. NA WA OOOOO. Negligence where?,how?. Pls go back and read that story. And for a stage 4 cancer for that matter. You don't cure stage 4 cancer, they always die.

People are already calling d doctor names because of one paragraph narration of a sad father's story. Na wa for nigerians oooo. Who hears d doctor out?, he says d son was cured of cancer?who says its drug complication?dont you know that many private hospital are better at service provision than d public hospital?. U.N.T.H can not even boast of oxygen for mass casualty. There are medical records of him, who has the details?.lets be civilised.

The cases sss handled what had come out of it?.I'm not trying to justify jungle justice but I'm happy thag he died alone because he would have had the chance to take these same people with him.

. Funny boy. Doctors love work in all honesty. It pains us to be on strike right now. 6 months negotiations with govt just to avoid the strike. Yet they are still adamant because laws have not been made to stop them from going abroad for medical treatment. Doctors are not stupid on their demands only that the populace have misunderstood us simply because the hospitals are shut and people are not treated in public health facilties.

Can you tell me how doctors are better equiped?. A doctor seeing a patient, does physical examination( I.e. rectal examination gloves tear in d process because it's fake, patient cough straight into your mouth with even sputum into your face while examining the chest) needle stick injuries while trying to take blood sample. In 10 days he is dead from ebola. Do you even know how many doctors are on PEP from needle stick injuries from HIV INFECTED PATIENTS someone will justify 5k for such phenomenal risk. Who is the head of a university?is managing of university different from health sector?.who is the head of the courts?have you seen any support staff (clerk, secretary etc) heading a court or being minister of justice, ?the list goes on. Why should support staff(pharmacists, nurses, lab attendant, cleaner) now be heavily backed by the populace to be CMD?.if you have been to a government hospital before,can you approach a nurse without receiving a harsh treatment? ottizz: A physician is trained to manage patients but not trained to manage a health-system. In fact many physicians are bad managers, not because they are not smart, but because they are not cost-benefit smart. In fact a lot of hospitals in the mid-west of the US has nurses as their COO. This is why a lot of MDs are now going for their MBAs, simply because they were not adequately prepared for management positions in medical school. This current conundrum can be rectified by the government if an office of CEO is created while also retaining the CMD. Chief medical director in its current form is a misnomer. CMD should not be the person in charge of the medical center but rather the person that is responsible for management of the physicians and patients. And this position should only be reserved to the physicians. CMD should be on the same level as the Chief nursing officer (CNO), who is responsible for the management of nurses. Management of the medical center should be reserved to the CEO and COO, and should be based on their experience in hospital management rather than how well one knows the human physiology and anatomy. Anyone, therefore, can be the CEO if qualified.

Nine persons came out.we were introduced as the doctors for the camp.when we started the camp clinic, we discovered 2 doctors had IMPAIRED MEDICAL JUDGEMENT, patients under their care were getting worse, on investigation, they confessed that they were doctors of optometry.we were shocked.those promising graduates could have died. The pharmacist should be seeing patients as doctors are on strike. Carry your olodo life to them for treatment.

I think it's ignorance that is driving those arguing in favour of the topic. Recently a nurse was made a consultant in U.C.H ibadan; a surgeon took patient to the theatre,operated on the patient,and instructed in the postop note that honey dressing should be done for the pateint. The so called consultant nurse came open the wound and said they woundnt dress with honey.your being promoted as a consultant is based on training not neccessarily on years on the job. You write exams, all manner of assessment. After all these someone will now come ingorm of consultant nurse,pharm e.t.c and be challenging ignorantly the treatment you are giving to your patient.

ola_pluto: I had this discussion with a Ghanaian friend. Health management is not exclusive to medical doctors. In fact, nowadays, the role of doctors is narrowing down to exclusive surgeries. Every other aspect can be handled by nurses, midwives and others. Serious doctors will want to be better in their field and not dabble into admin.
Lets look at it from the MPH, Master of Public Health degree. That is a more admin related course, and the requirements is for anyone who has done medical sciences. That in itself is a subtle admission that medical administration is not solely for medical doctors.

Becoming a paediatrician is a matter of interest. The consultant paediatricians have not made the field interesting. No joy doing posting in paediatrics how much more doing residency there. Am graduating next month;they have not made it interesting enough. am going to ophthalmology just 250 in the whole country.
