Islam › Re: Converting To Islam: British Women On Prayer, Peace And Prejudice by aspabay(m): 1:39pm On Oct 25, 2013
Got this from another thread.

wellmax: I hate it when any religious group claims to be the largest, or fastest growing. As much as the fact cannot be validated, does majority mean correctness? In religious matters, does majority carry the vote? This is why I agree with the Christian Bible when it says "wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it and narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.". So please we don't need the statistics.
wellmax: I know you don't care, but some of us don't like bogus claims which have no relevance whatsoever. Choose your religious path, implore others to join you by proving to them why you think its the right way. But please and please, its not Indomie, so stop telling us its the fastest selling brand.
Politics › Fashola Commissions Alausa Power Project by aspabay(op): 10:16pm On Oct 17, 2013
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday commissioned the 10.6 mw Alausa power project that would power the entire State Secretariat, Alausa and Obafemi Awolowo Way.

The Governor who spoke during the commissioning of the Alausa power plant which was carried out in conjunction with Oando Gas and Fidelity Bank Plc., explained that several places and landmarks like the Carter bridge which was abandoned for many years because it was unsafe has now been lit and made safe.

He added that 12 streets have been recently lit up in Alimosho area and is already having enormous benefit because market women who usually close at 5 or 6 pm are now trading into the wee hours of the night, with sales already improved by over 50 per cent from what it used to be.

Governor Fashola reiterated that the solution to unemployment and creating improved economic situation lies in made  in Nigeria goods. He expressed happiness that the Alausa power project is another made in Nigeria project, delivered by a Nigerian government with two Nigerian companies using largely Nigerian personnel to solve a Nigerian problem.

“I see a lot of good coming out of the gloom and sorry stories. I see a lot of good. Those who continue to put our country down should continue, but some of us can see the Nigeria of tomorrow and it would not happen by magic but by hard work. Some of us, especially members of my team dared to dream and as long as they continue to dream we would deliver stuffs like this”.

“I welcome you all warmly to the first secretariat that would run its own power without diesel, but on natural gas and clean fuel in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This could not have happened without Public Private Partnership (PPP). Go and check the balance sheets of Oando Gas and Fidelity Bank and the number of people they employ and you would see the gains of PPP”, he emphasised.

He added that the new Alausa power plant which will power all the offices in the Lagos State Secretariat would bring about efficiency in terms of the work output and lead to a resultant increase in productivity from the workers and the state economy.

Also speaking, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Oando Oil, Mr Wale Tinubu  said the new Alausa Power Plant will provide 10.6 Megawatts of electricity to the State Secretariat and will be powered by gas through an environmental friendly Lagos pipeline.

Politics › Lagos Commissions IPP For Alausa Secretariat by aspabay(op): 4:09pm On Oct 17, 2013
The Lagos State Government, today made true its promise to disconnect the offices of the governor, his deputy, the House of Assembly, as well as the entire state secretariat, from the national grid of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
This follows the commisioning of the completed N32 billion Independent Power Plant (IPP) built by Oando Gas and Power (OGP), which is designed to serve the entire Alausa Secretariat.
The disconnection of the Alausa Secretariat Complex from the PHCN grid, will make additional electricity available to many residents in Lagos State.
This will also mean that the streetlights on the main Awolowo Road will be powered by the plant, thus enhancing security for road users at night.
It is estimated that the entire secretariat requires an average of 4.0megawatts; 5.5MW during peak periods and about 0.5MW during off peak periods.
The secretariat currently houses the offices of the governor and deputy governor, the State House of Assembly, and all state ministries and adjoining campuses.

Education › Kwara State University Ŧo Change Name Ŧo ASSU by aspabay(op): 4:43am On Sep 11, 2013
BY DEMOLA AKINYEMI
ILORIN—Kwara State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking to change the name of Kwara State University, KWASU to Abubakar Sola Saraki University, ASSU.
The speaker said: With the commencement of this law, KWASU shall be Abubakar Sola Saraki University, ASSU, wherever it occurs in the University law and the law may be cited as Kwara State University Amendment Law.”
The bill, read for the third time before its passage yesterday had been subjected to public hearing after it scaled first and second reading.
The report of the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development claimed that only five (5) of the stakeholders were against the proposed Bill… on the ground that State and Local Government resources would be used to fund the university hence, KWASU should not be renamed after Sola Saraki. The committee said 35 of the stakeholders were of the view that KWASU be renamed after the late Political Icon due to his socio-economic and political contributions to the development of Kwara State in particular and Nigeria in general.
The report added that 40 stakeholders made both oral and written submissions.
The house, however, endorsed the recommendations of the committee and approved the renaming of the university after Saraki.

Crime › Man Arrested For Attempting To Video Policemen On Duty by aspabay(op): 11:47am On Aug 28, 2013
He had thought he was carrying out a civic responsibility trying to fight what he perceived as an abuse of office by some policemen at a checkpoint. But Gregory Ekene Muonyililo, a medical worker with a pharmaceutical company in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, never knew he was walking into trouble.

Muonyililo, acting against the backdrop of the video recording of a female corporal as she was allegedly demanding N100 bribe and a male sergeant who was also exposed for asking for N25,000 bribe, had on Monday attempted to record on tape a similar act in his locality.

As he came out of his office on his way to lunch, he had sighted some policemen on duty who were allegedly harassing a commercial motorcyclist. He thought they were trying to extort money from the motorcyclist and in a moment, he brought out his mobile phone to use it to videos the incident.

But THISDAY gathered that the policemen, who were attached to the Area E Command, were trying to arrest the yet-to-be identified commercial motorcyclist for violating the Lagos State traffic law that restricted the operations of commercial motorcyclists on 475 out of the 9,100 roads in the state.

Speaking to THISDAY, Muonyililo 's brother, Onyeka, said he was arrested after he attempted to video some policemen who were allegedly harassing a commercial motorcyclist.

He said: "Apparently, the policemen set up a checkpoint in front of his office yesterday (on Monday) and were harassing motorcyclists. He went outside to get something and when he saw it, he started videoing it.
"Although he should have been more discreet, he wasn’t and they saw him and became agitated. They collected his phone from him and after a few words were exchanged, left.

"They went back to their duty post with his phone and my brother went back to work. When they later came back looking for him around 4pm, he thought it was to give him back his phone but to his surprise, they told him to follow them to their station.
"From Amuwo Odofin, they took him all the way to the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, and he was detained and slept there."
He however said efforts were being made to ensure his release from detention, adding that the police had said they would charge him to court.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), debunked claims that the policemen were demanding bribe from the commercial motorcyclist.
She also debunked claims that the victim was taken to SARS, saying that he was taken to the X-Squad department of the state command for interrogation.

She said: "I don't like it when people try to frame the police. I spoke to the man who was arrested and he never told me that the policemen were asking for bribe from the commercial motorcyclist they were trying to arrest.

"What he told me was that he did not like the way the policemen were trying to arrest the motorcyclist and we now asked him what better way should have been employed and he kept quiet.
"Since this issue of video started, people would video and then transcribe and then send it out to the public through the Internet to different social media as part of efforts to paint the police black."

When asked if the suspect would be charged to court, she said investigations were still ongoing and the outcome of the investigations would determine what next step the police would take.
When the issue was raised with the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, at an event yesterday, he said he would look into the matter once he was back to the office.

He said: "There are questions you should ask first. Was the motorcycle rider right in disobeying state government laws? Were the policemen wrong in doing their job?"
When asked if it was a crime for a citizen to take pictures of policemen on duty, Manko neither debunked or affirmed it. Rather, he asked why the suspect should take pictures of policemen who were carrying out their legal duties.

Nebeuwa: Igbos want development. International airport, dredging of the river Niger, better roads, improved electricity. Will an Igbo president guarantee that?

What did Obasanjo do for the South-West? Was he not Yoruba? What has the Northern heads of state done for their region?
What then are you saying?
If OBJ did nothing for SW and Northerners did nothing for their region, then who has been doing what. Like someone said only SE has been crying over marginalization, as if their governors are just mere Village chiefs. But I'm not surprised, you always choose the bad ones, cos PDP want it so.
Where is PPA, wasn't it suppose to be a SE party? But of course in ibo land, brothers are always against brothers. I don't care what you do to Ŧo people, just learn Ŧo hold your own leaders accountable and stop blaming anyone for your self inflicted miseries.

Wsdm: What is Igbo politics? No presidential plan, no nationalistic plan, no unity plan and tomorrow you cry foul of maginalization. The yorubas and the hausas are openly telling Jonathan to give way for them and you are busy groping. I hope you all understand that he who does not participate in a competition needs no medal. I guess you the Igbos should just leave politics for others to do while you face your business as that is your ways.
GBAM! But sentiments won't allow them see your point, blind hypocrites
