If legal migrants could be dealt with in this manner........ Imagine the life of an illegal immigrant......

This was common practice with Nigerian LL, in the dark days (it was even council properties, they illegally sublet)...... If they lived in the house with tenants, baba wàhálà.....

They would restrict use of the boiler, cooking, heating, washing machine, guests etc etc etc ......

I repeat, RENT MONEY IS DEAD MONEY ..... Would your mortgage provider, remove your door .......🤣

grin you just had to chip this in.

I am just wondering why women in africa especially Nigeria are so obsessed with abroad a friend of mine is 43 and earning close to 1M naira he told me he has not been enjoying his home ever since his wife younger sister moved to uk with her family early this year the pressure has been for them to move out of the country as well But my guy said he no feel.go sit down for class again because he has been trying to get job oversea but getting plenty rejections.

The issue is not "traveling abroad".

The issue is women are easily influenced by trends or what their neighbors are doing.

If a woman's peer buys a particular kind of fashion ware, many women become restless trying to do the same and measure up.

Bolt na No 1 for the game. Others follows, but Subsidy removal is really affecting Bolt. I was at their new office yesterday at Providence streets, as in very small office with only 2 staffs attending to drivers. One rude girl and one well manarred guy at the counter. Their formal office used to be very Big with offices, conference rooms, toilets and so many staffs with alots of drivers trooping in and out for support, but yesterday scene didnt show sign of growth. I hope indriver won't take over from them.

what exactly is bolts operating cost?

They don't own the cars, they do not bear the cost of repairs or maintenance of the cars...the software is a sunk cost, only updates are being done.

Why will they be struggling?

I do not see why any hailing company with enough commission to cover staff salaries and rent should struggle. Except their head office has given them target or they took a foreign loan from their head office.

I have the capital to invest on the bussines.. but now am saying should relocate abroad with the money and leave my 3kids and wife back home or invest on the bussines.. cus am traveling with a tourist visa and it’s a Europe country and I don’t how long it will take to get my papers over there please Nairaland I really need ur opinion not make future mistakes

Thanks

tourist visa is not meant for business or work. You're taking a big risk and risking the welfare of your family. Most likely you will not see them for years and since you are not with the right documents may not find it easy there either.

Nigeria will devalue more as we go into Dec & Jan.

Nigeria will be delisted from many key indices in Jan 24, fundamentals of the economy remain the same.

A significant amount of crude is now used to settle oil-back loans, even Dangote refinery cannot get feedstock.

Last week I created a thread talking about how my japa plans have been crushed due to the increase in dollar.

Many adviced me to invest in dollar, this was the advice they gave me months ago but I did follow through because I wasn't sure.
My last thread hit front page and 90% of the comments were advising me to invest in dollars, one even quoted that in the past 10 years, the dollar haven't fallen but it increases every year.

One even called me a weak minded person and I am scared to take risks.
After everything I thought to myself, since so many people felt this dollar will keep on rising, maybe I should invest afterall life is all about risks.

Well guess what, dollar have decreased, I invested 3M in buying dollars and now in today exchange rate. I have 2.6M now and I either cash out now or hope it will increase.

Right now, I am very angry.
Those giving me advice should come and contribute the 400k for me o

Another thing, do you think the dollar will increase or should I just cut my loses.
I am so tired 😫

No rush, give it till January. FG has injected cash from loans raised, but nothing has changed in the fundamentals. So I'll advise you hold on and give it a few months.

I read the right thread, I didn’t see anything there that warrants anyone saying someone “lacks the right mentality to succeed” 👍🏾

Unemployed immigrant blames landlords for asking for 6 months' rent or a guarantor rather than asking where he can get a guarantor since he does not have the cash to pay six-month rent.

Paints gloom and doom over employment prospects in the UK when he has only been applying for a job for one month. He may not even have the right kind of CV, to be applying in the right places. The guy may not even have his NI number yet.

Moans that it costs him a lot to come over. Does Rishi Sunak control the exchange rate?

Gloom and doom picture by someone who came on a very-shoe-string budget and rather than ask for help or guidance is complaining so much after just 1 month.

Not interested in talking about it more though. Anyone interested can embrace his way of thinking. I do not fancy his odds of success.

So what exactly has the OP portrayed for you to say “he lacks the mentality to succeed” ? Why is that even a nice thing to say to anyone?? 🥴

This haughty, shoulder-pad behavior of few people who portray to have made it is really somehow tbh.

That you have made it and someone is currently struggling doesn’t mean they lack the mentality to succeed, e sha ma rora. 🙏🏾

Nairaland will scream to everyone who can hear to japa like your life depends on it, and when you do and fall into some troubles, same Nairaland will say you no sharp, you no wise, you no dey hear word, you should have paid all your fees. Crap talk!

I also know someone that just moved around the time he stated, only did Amazon jobs for two weeks and got the same kind of job he was doing in Nigeria, which is the role of a hygiene manager at a flour production company. Not necessarily like he has two heads, but was just at the right place at the right time and they needed him and there was a fit. If that person was at a different location, I'm pretty sure the story would be different. This guy is literally the only contact of mine who isn't doing a dead-end boy boy job, or gaddem carework.

The OP has asked you advisors to link him to jobs if you can...he isn't asking for money. He has asked like three of you to link him to jobs in other locations sef if you can so he can work on his free days and commute back somehow during school days, una still dey speak English, cos aside the English you have nothing else to offer, except to put him down. Smh

you're not a very smart fellow by default, I will not waste time giving you a response.

you don't get the point.

If an employer employs someone in Nigeria, pays for their visa and accommodation, and waits some months to have them come and you are equally qualified and already in the UK with no work restriction, something is wrong with the way the person is doing his/her job search.

Personally, I dont think you have the right mind to succeed in the uk bro. I'll advise you to try elsewhere.

Even a few weeks ago, I know of a friend's sister who came on a skilled worker visa to work in a hospital, with visa and accommodation paid for by employer.

How will someone already in the uk and with the right qualification then claim no job?

when did u leave Nigeria? which country?if UK was it this September?
don't use ur earlier move to compare this made rush this September.

like I said out of all i knew that came in this September.... only one got a washing of plates job i think 8 hours per week they gave her and it waz through someone she knew.. like recommendation.

and the shift no de come always.

so am not speaking just my experience. mine is fair. two people I spoke yesterday n today said nothing to even eat from yesterday to today.

I had to send some pounds to them

I am also in the market looking for a next step in my career. While I agree the market is not a buoyant as it was 1-2 years ago, it is still very rich in good opportunities.

Also, this is not Nigeria. There are many jobs here, so even if you apply for 20 a day and you are not called, don't get fixated on it and keep applying (albeit each time you fail, ask yourself: what could I have done better to have been the successful applicant ?. Rather than complaining that you apply to 1 million jobs.

Lastly, networking is often about meeting people ahead of where you are. You are referencing what people who came in recently as you are saying. Network more with people who came 1-3 years ago and are doing well, to give you tips.

The probably is many new migrants came on a shoe string budget, often resulting to them asking for financial help which is why others who came earlier tend to avoid them.

For someone to even guarantee for you, it means you must have been a trust worthy person. Nobody wants to guarantee for someone that knows they use to owe people back in Nigeria. It is very difficult mahn.

People are trapped in Nigeria forever at this rate.

Not necessarily true. There are people willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

We were guaranteed by an Ethiopian who my wife only recently met. I have also guaranteed 2 people I do not really know so well. 1 is now fairly well settled. The other just came, and I hope she finds her feet.

A relative of mine came in, stayed away till she had issues paying tuition. Borrowed some cash and only paid 60% back running to 8 months now. The last time we spoke, she asked for an additional £8,000. Promising to pay all later.
I didnt borrow her and refuse to stand as a guarantor if she borrows it.

So its not by who you know. I stand as guarantor to 2 people I am not so familiar with, but will not stand for my own relation.

on thr issues of landlord.. they don't rent house because u have the money. they demand that u have right to work and also u are working else they see that money as shit.

only few will ask u to pay 6 months to 12 months. unless u are alone and wants to stay in student accommodation.

Not arguing with you online. Please return to Nigeria if you wish.

You just entered one month and already complaining. Keep calm. It takes time to get jobs in a new country. It took a friend 8 months to get a job in the US and that's a country with jobs flowing everywhere.

The guy is a comedian.

Complaining it cost him 35million to travel. Whose fault, is Rishi Sunak responsible for the exchange rate?

Landlord's are requesting for 6 months upfront or guarantor..and a guy that has no job is complaining. If he was in their shoes would he give it to someone in his situation without added safety to guaranteed their income.
Someone guaranteed for me when I came in, I also guarantee for a number of people who came in when I settled in. Rather than look for someone to guarantee for him, he came to make noise online

Lack of proper planning on your side bro.

If you have done your research well, you should know lanlords will not give an economic migrant a house without a guarantor or long rent paid for obvious reasons. Mind you, it is monthly rent the lanlords themselves often use it to service their monthly mortgages. Why would they give it to someone with no job who only just arrived the country? Besides tye fact that you could damage your landlord's credit record, it's a lengthy process getting a tenant evicted, so Landlord's will rather not have a tenant that may not pay.

It appears you also came in with the mindset that there is a job offer letter waiting for you at the airport. Even when the jobs exist, an employer would not give it to someone they are not confident would be suitable for it. Please consult widely with other immigrants that also recently arrived and are now working in the field you desire.

Lastly, there are locations in the UK with less job opportunities and less open to immigrants than others. It's good to consider this when coming to the UK.

Generally, your post reflects a big lack of planning. You also came on a shoe string budget (even if it's 35million). You should have funds to cover at least 4-6 months even your visa application required 9 months living expense.

It's a new environment much different to Nigeria. Meet with people that will help you understand the system better and always plan using worst-case and not best-case scenarios

Looking at this, it looks like the person had 12-hour shifts.

Taking 1 shift a week would mean leaving 8 hours of money on the table.

Taking 2, would mean exceeding the limit by 4 hours.

I feel sorry for him/her a bit.

The ones exceeding 24hrs are inexcusable .

Hiring a lawyer would probably cost him more than he made from overshooting the limit.

I said I know he can afford the 13 million just to give you guys an idea of how wealthy he is. There's no where in my writeup I said I asked him for 13 million.

Madam, net asset does not equate liquidity. He has properties worth 100million does not mean he has 1million naira in his bank account that is not committed to something important to him.

You may not appreciate that he has denied himself something to give you even the 500k he sent you.

You may not appreciate he's done you a big favour, because he will likely wait many months to get his money back, likely with no interest. In a country with inflation @ almost 30%, 500k will be worth much less a few months from now and he will have to settle with that.

You may not appreciate that not every one see travelling to the UK as a good investment in career. If that's the case he still gives you 500k to a project he is does not believe in and you may not pay back.

Tell me how many of your good friends, banks and financial institution will borrow you N1M knowing clearly that you intend to travel to the UK on a one-way ticket and you have no job waiting for you in the UK?

This is a classic case of ingratitude.

He insisted on 500k, I later accepted. He said I should call him after one month for the 500k. I called him after one month and still pleaded that he make it 1million but he refused. I had to even start begging for him to send me the 500k. Two weeks later, he sent it.

How do you know he has 13 million naira lying around waiting for someone to ask for it?

Are you his accountant or banker?

Had a relative also call to give him millions to establish a store in Nigeria, to be returned at some distant date. Found the request very strange and wondered how he imagined I had millions lying around waiting for his request.

Never heard from him since I turned him down and will only send a token to support. I guess he is somewhere saying this same thing
