I am thinking more like WINS, DNS or even IP addressing. The error message is one that you get when the netbios name of a resource cannot be resolved to an address.
It would be nice if we had more info.

Why don't you visit the vendors web site and check for all of the drivers that will work with the OS you intend to install. if you can find them, then there is no problem.
The main ones to look for are the video, sound, modem and camera if there is one installed. XP SP2 is very good at detecting most of the other drivers.
Check the vendors site first.

Can you specify the setup you want to use. What is the model of your phone? Bluetooth? Infra-red? Data Port?
I am assuming that you want to use a laptop to connect to the internet via your mobile phone.

As long as the software being installed is the same version as the original install, there should not be a problem. It has to be exact though.

Have you installed the latest service packs on this system? This issue was first reported as XP/XPSP1. Microsoft included a fix in subsequent uopdates, for the welcome screen problem that causes it to happen.

Things that generally cause laptoip heating problems include, but are not cofined to:

[li]some serious dust on the internal fans[/li]
[li]Inteference with the air coolingsystem[/li]

With the first instance you can take a look at the processes in task manager, shutdown any that is running high and possibly disable it. With the rest it might be worth seekng professional help if unsure of what you are doing.

I post this with a view to extending the discussion on laptop overheating, not as a solution.

IP Forwarding? I thought you were configuring a router to port forward. Your router should be forwarding IP's not for the local network to your upstream gateway. Areas where IP Forwarding ca be configured for routing other than on a physical router:

* Linux - not my forte.

* Turning an XP box into a a simple router.

Could you please expand a bit more on what you are trying to achieve, with what.

Think back to when you first saw it, had you installed, uninstalled or updated any program?

If not, you can apply the most recent Service Packs for your operating system.

Port fowarding is a simple process. As it will take a while to exchange notes on what type of router you have. Why don't you try this link and it will guide you through setting yours up.

If you do not have the install disks or image with act code, you might be in trouble. If you cannot find it or your proof of purchase why not download open office. IT does almost everything that office does.

I am hoping here that you Apple Mac has an intel chipset. If it does not there is no way you can do it. Although you can setup a virtual instance of XP within Mac OS using virtuial pc.
