The past couple has been quite stressful, being that I have to constantly be wetting the field every evening for most part. But the effort has been worth it. Most of the potatoes have started bringing out green leaves. Also the Ugu vegetables are doing pretty good.. however the sun has not been merciful for the past couple of days now..

Praying for the financial might to be able to get the drip irrigation solution.. Abeg anyone that is selling cheap oooo!!! Help a brother

I did a quick stop today at my other farm sites, and it appears the weeds in the pineapple farm has started sprouting rigorously. I would have to do something about it as soon as possible. My cassavas are looking quite okay.. Pictures attached.

We are finally done with the planting. Took a total of 5days to finish planting 260 bundles of vine cuttings.

Next step is constant wetting of the field

Vines stored inside of the building in the farm. I tried keeping them alive by sprinkling water on the plants as often as possible.

Agriculture / Re: My Sweetpotato/Ugu Vegetable Farm Diary As A Newbie. by austin4real(m): 11:29pm On Mar 23, 2022
I didn’t have sufficient space to store my vines, hence I had to improvise on a make shift shade. I should have left some trees to provide shade for the vines. But we move.

Spreading out the vines, as they need air to cool down from the long trip down to my farm.

Sorry it’s been long I updated the thread. Last week Saturday, I received the sweet potato stems and started planting on Sunday. We are still on the job right now and I can say it’s been quite tedious and I never envisaged how stressful this could have been. But we are making gradual progress so far.

Politics / Senate Amends Money Laundering Act, Banks To Report Deposits To EFCC by austin4real(m): 8:39am On Mar 17, 2022
The Senate, on Wednesday, passed a bill to amend the Money Laundering Act 2011, which makes it mandatory for Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions to report to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering under the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, any single transaction or lodgements in excess of N5m for an individual, and N10m in the case of a corporate body.

The passage of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act (Amendment) Bill 2022 followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes on the bill.

Section 11(3) of the new Act prescribes that “Any financial institution or designated non-financial business and profession that contravenes the provisions of this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of not less than N250,000 and not more than N1m for each day the contravention continues.”

Section 12 also prohibits the opening of numbered or anonymous accounts in fictitious names and shell banks.

It provides that any person or financial institution that contravenes the provisions of Section 12(1), (2) and (3) commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years in the case of an individual; and a fine of not less than N10m but not more than N50m for a financial institution, in addition to the prosecution of the principal officers of the body, and winding up and prohibition of its constitution or incorporation.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari, in his presentation, said the bill seeks to repeal the institutional and legal framework on money laundering prohibition in Nigeria.

Kwari said it would “provide for an effective and comprehensive legal framework to reinvigorate the fight against money laundering in the country by leaning more on prevention as a useful tool to strengthen the existing legal regime in combating money laundering and other related crimes in the country.”

According to the chairman, the re-enactment bill provides appropriate penalties and expands the scope of supervisory bodies to effectively address the challenges faced in the implementation of anti-money laundering laws in Nigeria.

The bill was passed by the upper chamber after consideration by the Committee of the Whole.

How big is the fenced plot in the pictures? did you buy the land? how profitable is exotic vegetables (lettuce/carrot/cabbage...)
The land has 4 and half plots in total. I borrowed the land to use from a family member due to the fact that it’s fenced and has appropriate security. I don’t really know much about the the highlighted vegetables you asked, but I’m sure the internet has loads of materials you can consult to make your findings.

Good day nairalanders. Today I want to start posting progress on my new farm project. This isn't my first farm project, however I've been dealt with several blows in my farming expedition. I started out with Pineapple farming, which is still going good by the way. this should be the 15th month since I planted the pineapples. I also tried my hands on Plantain/Cassava farming, however Fulani herdsmen have been a constant headache for me on that farm during the dry season, as they burnt and ravaged that farm this January "Pictures would be posted to show the damage".

But due to the burning passion and desire I have for farming, I've decided to go ahead with another project, but this time, it would be vegetable based farming.

I intend engaging in potato vine multiplication and ugu farming. The vine multiplication would enable me have enough vines to sell to farmers for the incoming rainy season, and also give me the opportunity to plant my own sweet potatoes, without worrying about where to source for vines. Here are picture of work done so far. Wish me luck in this journey my fellow nairalanders, I would make sure to post picture of progress as we kick start the project this weekend. Thanks for viewing

Last week I bought diesel for ₦460 /litre, on Sunday, I bought it for ₦500/litre.. Only to get there yesterday and they told me it's ₦627/litre.

Mind you, 100 litres will only last for 8 hours.
That's how they are killing me softly in Nigeria

Had to temporarily shut down my business due to this whole diesel matter..
