Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of General Benjamin
Adekunle who died on Saturday morning in Lagos.
In a statement, Saturday, Tinubu said Adekunle was , ‘a
man of valour and unimaginable bravery.’
“The Generalissimo has fallen. The Great General Benjamin
Adekunle (Rtd.) has left this world and his departure
saddens me greatly.
“The Civil War Hero was a Soldier’s Soldier. He was a man
of valour and unimaginable bravery. Lion-hearted and a
leader of men. He served his Fatherland devotedly and
without question when we most needed him.
“Like most great men, he was greatly misunderstood. His
flamboyant and outspoken nature made him a colourful
character. However, that never stopped him from emerging
as one of the most remarkable icons in Nigeria’s military
history.
“The “Black Scorpion” was a man of uncommon intelligence
and fierce determination. On the battle field, he had no
equal. He represented the best generation of our military
personnel. The ones who refused to back down from any
enemy; who put their very existence on the line for our
continued coexistence.
Of all of Gen. Adekunle’s qualities, it is his loyalty to the
flag that I most admire. He was a worthy ambassador of his
people and a great example in service. He led from the
front.
Let it be said of Gen. Adekunle: “Here is a man who gave
his country the best of his life.” May his warrior soul find
rest. And I pray his wife family find the fortitude to bare the
irreparable loss.

The low price tag put on Nigerian cassava chips by China is
frustrating Nigerian exporters of the commodity. This
development is impeding the successful execution of the
cassava chip export contract entered by Nigeria and China.

Chinese importers, it was learnt, are offering Nigerian
exporters $250 per tonne instead of $400 it goes for in
Europe and $350 in Israel. Business advisory services
officials at the Bank of Agriculture have advised Nigerian
cassava chips exporters that if the contract price is less
than $400 per tonne, the business will not be viable.
Financial Vanguard gathered that the Bank of Agriculture
team suggested that exporters should explore European
markets that offer $400 or Israel that offers $350 as against China’s $250 offering.
The contract for the export of cassava was negotiated by the Obasanjo regime in his cassava initiative and is being
undermined by the Chinese.

LAGOS — In what is fast becoming the norm, gunmen,
Friday, stormed the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria,
FRCN, Training School, Lagos State, raping and robbing
many of the female trainee journalists.
An eye witness in the school said that was the third time the
armed men would be attacking the school.
An insider said: “The armed robbers were many. They
attacked the school last week, last two weeks and now this
week. They always rape the girls and dispossess others,
including male students and workers on night duties of their
valuables.”
The three attacks on the school have left many of the
workers shocked, especially as policemen were supposed to
be manning the school gate.
The last attack occurred at about 2am, with the gunmen
targeting the financial records offices. Three of the gunmen
wore masks and focused on the new BOND FM station,
which has a lot of new expensive transmitting devices.
“Many of them broke into our offices, remove burglar-
proofs, raped girls who were in training and living in our
hostel. They collected money, phones and laptops. This is
the third time this will be happening,” said a staff.
According to another insider, the school has male and
female trainees drawn from across different radio stations
in the country who are on special courses. There are also
private students studying broadcast journalism.
The insider added: “The gunmen are usually many
whenever they attack. The first time they came, they
appeared to be searching for something as they ransacked
all offices.
This time, they came with three or four men wearing masks.
They were apparently the people who wanted something
from the school or offices. When they came this time, they
were the ones doing the frantic searching.
Whether they succeeded in getting what they wanted this
time around is what we don’t know.”
Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, however said only a
case of burglary was reported.
“I just got to hear today that the place has been burgled
three times. But they had never reported. It’s only today
that an official complaint was lodged. No case of rape was
reported. Nobody has come forward to say that she was
raped,” she said.
