A Bosnian Croat war criminal has died after drinking poison during an appeal hearing in The Hague.

Slobodan Praljak, 72, died in hospital, with the UN court announcing that the courtroom was now “a crime scene”.

On hearing that his 20-year jail term had been upheld, the ex-commander of Bosnian Croat forces said he was not a criminal and then drank from a bottle.

In 2013, he was sentenced for crimes in the city of Mostar during the Bosnian war from 1992-95.

Praljak was one of six former Bosnian Croat political and military leaders up before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

They were attending the final appeals judgment to be handed down by the court.

Though allies against the Bosnian Serbs in the war, Bosnian Croats and Muslims also fought each other for a period of 11 months, with Mostar seeing some of the fiercest fighting.

After hearing the verdict, General Praljak stood and raised his hand to his mouth, tipped his head back and appeared to swallow a glass of liquid.

“I have taken poison,” he said.

Presiding judge Carmel Agius immediately suspended the proceedings and an ambulance was called.

General Praljak died later in a nearby hospital.

The Federal Government’s decision to break the hold of Intels over logistics handling in Nigeria’s oil and gas port terminals may be another move by power brokers to break the financial muscle of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in the run up to the 2019 presidential election, high-level sources in the All Progressives Congress, APC have disclosed.

Even before news of the ailment of President Muhammadu Buhari emerged, Atiku was believed to have commenced mobilization to run for the 2019 presidential election using either the platform of the APC and where not, using the platform of another political party.

The decision to curtail him was, however, believed to have commenced before the news of the sickness of President Buhari.

BENUE – Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Inspector Amos Zaatyough, after he tried to rescue two boys who were fleeing for their lives.

A witness who exclusively sent the report to TTV on the condition of anonymity said the attack occoured on Tuesday, April 24 when Zaatyough had gone to visit a friend and witnessed two boys being chased by Fulani herdsmen.

ABUJA – The National Headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was on fire, on Tuesday, as some members of the party and Senators, raised an alarm over an alleged report, that three former Nigerian Heads of State, that is, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, had endorsed President Muhamamdu Buhari’s immediate resignation.

The credible sources at the APC Secretariat, condemned the former Presidents, for taking such a shocking step.

When Post-Nigeria’s Correspondent visited the Headquarters, the offices were in lock and keys, as staff were in groups, discussing in hushed tones.

Making reference to the long press release issued by a Chieftain of the APC, Bisi Akande, on the health status of Buhari, the source said:

“The life of everyone is in the hands of our Creator; nobody is saying Buhari is dying, but there’s the need for fresh approach to how his health issue is being handled, and what Nigerians are being fed with; I strongly believe that the issue formed the fulcrum of the meeting”, he said.

ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concern about the affairs of the country saying a cabal is running the country and not President Muhammadu Buhari.

This concern is coming over the fact that the president missed three federal executive council meeting in a row raising speculation about his true state of health.

The Punch reports that the National Caretaker Committee of the PDP insisted that the health of President Buhari must so bad to have prevented him from attending the federal executive council meeting.

ABUJA – Members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 8th Assembly, under the aegis of PDP Caucus, have condemned the continued clampdowns on members of the opposition by “some cabals within the Presidency.”

This is coming on the heels of the allegation by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, that plans were underway by the Presidency, to plant some foreign currencies and other items in his Enugu apartment, with the motive to arrest and humiliate him.

Briefing the Senate Press Corps on Wednesday, the PDP caucus said it would no longer accept the intimidation,liking the development to the era of late Military Tyrant, Sanni Abacha.

Speaking on behalf of other Senators, former Deputy Governor of Abia and Spokesman for the group, Senator Eyinaya Abaribe, also condemned the arrest and continued detention of former Governors of Benue, Gabriel Suswam, Jigawa, Sule Lamido, Niger, Babangida Aliyu and other members of the opposition, for daring to criticise the ruling party.

“The plan is not limited to only Deputy Senate President, some PDP Governors and other top shots in the party, including some APC members with dessenting voices are on their list.

“It is an abuse of their fundamental human rights. We condemn it in its entirely. We won’t succumb to this intimidation and we won’t go back to the days of Abacha”, Abaribe said.

He said, “a case whereby, someone would wake up in the morning, drive your car, go and park it at the DSS office and plant a gun in it, like that of Suswam’s, should be resisted”.

The PDP Senators totally objected to the idea of security agencies searching one’s residence without proper warrant and in their absence.

ENUGU – The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged all politicians in Nigeria to stay away from its planned Remembrance day scheduled hold on May 30.

The IPOB said individuals ‘masquerading’ as Biafra agitators are making efforts to sabotage its May 30 remembrance day for some of its heroes who died during the Nigeria-Biafra civil war.

A statement by its media and publicity secretary Powerful Emma said the IPOB has gathered intelligence report that some individual have been meeting with officials of the federal government and some South-East governor to frustrate the event.

“Some of these dishonourable and clearly shameless persons and groups are so devilish they don’t realize that it is their patriotic duty to honour those that fell in battle in defence of their freedom,” Emma said.

A former National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and ex-gubernatorial aspirant in Lagos State, Adedeji Doherty has called on the All Progressives Congress to forget the idea of fielding President Muhammmadu Buhari as its presidential candidate in 2019.

Doherty said anyone calling on Buhari to run for another term was an enemy, stressing that the President may not withstand another four years.

He called on the president to rather sit back and take care of his health instead of going through the stress of another campaign.

He told Sun that, “Anybody asking Buhari to seek a second term is Buhari’s enemy. I believe that his family members will even persuade him not to run if some cabal wanted to push him to run because of their own personal interests.
