MrEverest:
Shame on people like you, you are the reason why this country is in a deep mess. Millions of civil servants are owed backlog of salaries, even the meagre 18,000 naira minimum wage is about to be slashed, there is no capital project going on accross the nation, there is no fuel, there is no forex, companies are laying off workers en mass, unemployment is at an all time high, oil price is abysmally low & ours is no longer in demand yet your president you elected wants to spend 187 million naira to change tires!! billions to import cars, tens of billions to maintain 12 presidential jets, billions on travel etc. Pls google about the Tanzanian president before you comment again. except you are selfish & also a member of this government, then I'll understand otherwise you have failed yourself & the generation next by condoning evil acts that ought to be condemned. This is so sad!!!
We know one of the major issue in this country is corruption. Now this sort of outrageous and meaningless budgets has been made and there's nothing you and I can do about it. Now, my prayer is, the purpose in which the so called funds is been budgeted for will be used for the exact purpose. Again, we both know the chances are slim. It will probably be diverted. I'm still on your side, we're just saying the same thing in two different ways.

There should be better ways to deal with this rather than requesting MTN pays this outrageous sum. Meanwhile, shutting down MTN will definitely have an adverse effect on the Nigerian economy. A more subtle approach should be employed.

RomanceRe: Couple Say "I Do" On Hosptal Bed After Accident 4 Days To Wedding (Photo) by AvimsPS(f): 6:06am On Dec 20, 2015
Towncrier247:
No, she's not dead...just seriously injured. Miriam Gakenia,31, and her fiance James Mwangi, 27, had gone to buy wedding items but were injured in a road accident at Kiangwachi area along Nyeri-Nairobi highway on Tuesday, December 15. Their wedding was to take place at Dominion Towers Deliverance Church today, Saturday December 19.
Gakenia suffered a right hip joint injury and a broken right arm while Mwangi's right hand was injured. He had been treated and discharged but she could neither sit nor stand. The couple exchanged their vows at Outspan hospital today, with nurses as her bridesmaids.
"The wedding had to go on. We had prepared for six months. The devil was not going to get in the way. She would have become my wife even if she had lost her legs," Mwangi explained.
Gakenia said from her hospital bed: "I informed my doctor of the wedding and told him we were not ready to postpone it."
She said the hospital agreed to hold the wedding on its grounds. Nurses and matron Jane Wamucii escorted her to the location on her bed.
Gakenia and Mwangi had difficulties putting on their wedding rings as their hands were in casts but they exchanged their vows in what Reverend Stephen Mungai described as "a first in Nyeri".
It was also difficult for them to sign their marriage certificate and to share their wedding cake, but these paled in comparison to the exchange of vows at the emotional ceremony.
"I have never conducted such a wedding. It shows far love can go. It is a lesson in sticking with your vision regardless of hurdles, and eventually reaching your destination," the reverend said.
The couple did not have a photo shoot after the wedding but was taken to a private room at the hospital where Mwangi sat by Gakenia's bed for hours.
Gakenia, a system administrator at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, will remain at the hospital for six weeks.

Nairaland General5 Tools To Help You Automate Your Work by AvimsPS(op): 10:17pm On Dec 14, 2015
It's why we've seen such transformations as mechanized farming, manufacturing, travel, retail, and advances in countless other sectors over the past century or two. It's also why there's so much hand-wringing over the potential of more sophisticated robots to replace a slew of other jobs and functions in the years ahead.

So far, though, software and machines have thrived mainly at replacing a particular kind of work: the average-wage, middle-skill, routine-heavy work, especially in manufacturing and office administration. And while AI researchers and advocates foresee much bigger things coming, the more immediate benefits most of us have access to today can help cut back on the sorts of tedious tasks that gobble up so much of our time and mental energy.

WHAT TO AUTOMATE AND WHY

That's good news. According to research by social psychologist Roy Baumeister, it's those kinds of tasks in particular that are most likely to leave us mentally depleted. "Decision fatigue," as he calls it, describes the biological price we pay—in energy, focus, and performance—by making decision after decision. In other words, the more choices you need to make throughout the day, the harder each one becomes for your brain, which eventually starts looking for shortcuts.

That's as good a case as any for delegating some of your tasks to automation, which can help you preserve your energy for high-quality (and higher-stakes) decision-making. So where do you start?

Look first for the tasks that have become so routine that you can basically do them in your sleep. Less obvious—and trickier to automate—are those that don't require human finesse but are components of bigger processes that do. Don't ignore those. There might be pieces that can be outsourced to a robot, so to speak, even if the entire process cannot.

FIVE GREAT AUTOMATION TOOLS

No matter what you do or how you work, these apps have a wide range of applications for most digitally connected workers. Here's a quick look at their features and how they can save you time and energy.

Zapier: Think of this as a great "meta" app. It's an integration tool that easily connects the other web apps you use in order to automate certain tasks. With Zapier, you can connect Evernote to task management apps like Asana and Trello as well as to your Google calendar. Or you can save your PayPal sales to a Google spreadsheet or post new BaseCamp activity to Slack.

IfThisThenThat: This is a web service that allows you to plug information in from one app to another, even allowing you to create custom tasks to mirror a specific workflow: "If [this thing happens on one service], then [do that on another service]," so for instance, "If I post a new photo to Instagram, then download it to Dropbox." You can also use "recipes," which are simply prebuilt tasks made by other users that you can add to your own IFTTT account.

TextExpander: This tool lets you insert fixed bits of text—called "snippets" in TextExpander parlance—by typing in short abbreviations. For example, you might create a snippet for email copy that you use repeatedly throughout your week, like responding to a request for additional information. Or you might create a snippet containing the addresses and phone numbers for the top three coffee shops where you regularly meet with clients.

Pocket: There's a tremendous amount of content and new stories constantly revolving on the web. Oftentimes, you’ll see the headline of an article you’d like to read but don't have the time to right now. You can put those articles, videos, or pretty much any content you'd like to save for later into Pocket. The app lets you save media directly from your mobile browser as well as from apps like Twitter, Flipboard, Pulse, and Zite. Then, when you're ready for them, you can read anything you've saved from your phone, tablet, or PC without a Wi-Fi connection.

Mint: Probably the best known of these five automation tools, Mint lets you automatically track all your checking accounts, saving accounts, and credit cards in a central location, neatly categorizing and displaying the transactions along the way with informative graphs. And it will send reminders to alert you that a bill is due.

As you comb through your workflows and look for opportunities to automate, make sure you don't go overboard. You won't want to automate any tasks that bring meaning and joy to your work or that let you use your unique strengths. Not everything we enjoy in our lives or work is necessarily a high-order task; just because something can be automated doesn't mean it should be. The best automation is strategic automation, and the strategy is up to you.

Nairaland GeneralAdvertising Approach This Holiday Peroid by AvimsPS(op): 11:17am On Dec 09, 2015
Ninety nine percent of the time statistics can drive you to heavy thinking. In researching this post on SMS or Text Message Marketing, I wanted to find out how many people use text messaging, how quickly they are read, and are business owners using it as a way to reach customers.

the data is all over the place:

Text Messages have a 98 percent read rate
Text Messages have a 100 percent open rate
Texts are typically read within 15 minutes of being received
Mobile phones have reached 100 percent penetration in the country

Let’s go with something more trustworthy:
Do you know very many adults without a mobile phone?
How about business owners without one?
Have you had a customer without a cell phone?

Here’s the leap, but I have pretty good evidence it is true: If they have one, they likely use text messaging on it, too.

Text message marketing is a approach to sharing short updates or specials with your customers. It lends itself to point of sale or retail offers, but not entirely. My gut or intuition tells me that it’s a good way to share news, updates, ideas, and special offers with customers with whom you have a relationship and who express interest in signing up.

I have good news for you, We can help relieve your marketing stress by taking your products or services directly to people who needs it.

Nairaland GeneralReasons To Try Text Message Marketing For Your Small Business by AvimsPS(op): 1:48am On Dec 08, 2015
Text messaging isn’t just a convenient way to chat with friends. It’s also a powerful mobile marketing tool for small businesses. The vast majority of Nigerians own a cellphone, and most use their phone to send and receive text messages, also known as SMS messages. More important, cellphone users are more engaged with SMS messaging than they are with other mobile marketing avenues like email or social media. Most cellphone users have programmed their phone to alert them whenever a new SMS message arrives, and the majority of messages are read within a few minutes of delivery.

Still, some business owners are hesitant to adopt SMS messaging as a promotional tool, believing the platform to be ineffective.

In reality, SMS marketing is cheap, easy, It's engaging, It's quick, It's interactive and highly valuable.

Nairaland GeneralYou'll Never Hear Successful People Say These 15 Phrases. by AvimsPS(op): 1:33am On Dec 08, 2015
If you want to become more successful as an entrepreneur or in your career, you can start by making a habit of talking and thinking more like the people you know or read about who are already successful.
Here are some phrases you’ll never hear a successful person say:

1. "We can't do that."
One thing that makes people and companies successful is the ability to make solving their customers’ problems and demands their main priority. If a need arises repeatedly, the most successful people learn how to solve it as quickly as they can.

2. "I don't know how."
Instead of automatically shutting down solution-finding, successful people learn what they can in order to succeed in a project or in their career. For example, you would never see a truly successful international business consultant who travels to Italy multiple times per year refusing to learn Italian.

3. "I don’t know what that is."
Pleading ignorance doesn’t make the problem go away. It just makes the asker find someone who is able to work with them to solve the problem. While’s it’s always good to be honest with those you interact with, finishing this phrase with “but I’ll find out” is a surefire way to become more successful.

4. "I did everything on my own."
The best people know to surround themselves with others who are smart, savvy and as dedicated as they are. What makes this work is always giving credit where it’s due, as due credit to you will always come back in hand. Recognize those that have helped you or made an impact and you’ll continue to earn success and recognition yourself.
Related: The SEAL Teams Don't Accept These 10 Phrases, and Neither Should You

5. "That's too early."
You would never hear Benjamin Franklin or someone such as Steve Jobs say, “that is too early for me to be there.” If there is a networking meeting, project launch or interview opportunity at the very beginning of the day, the most successful people do what it takes to be there. Part of being successful is being at the right place at the right time, no matter if you’re a morning bird or night owl.

6. "That’s too late."
Along the same lines, if you’re asked to a 9 p.m. dinner by a potential business partner, and you can make it, definitely go. You may be tired the next day, but the connections you will make during a small dinner or after-hours meeting can make all the difference when it comes to your career or next project.

7. "It's too bad we couldn't work together."
Truly hitting it off with someone can be a rare occurrence, but if you truly connect with someone and want to work with them, find a way to make it work. Finding people that you really enjoy communicating with don’t come along too often, so whether it’s a case study or a new business, successful people know that working with those who truly align with your personality and interests are the path to true success.

8. "Let's catch up sometime."
Many times, this phrase is said as filler, without any true follow up. Successful people know that if they really want to catch up with someone, they follow up to make it happen. This also builds on the idea that the most successful people have worked hard to build genuine connections and relationships within their network, without any hidden agenda. Nurturing your network means being thoughtful of others, while keeping your relationships with them on top of your mind.

9. "I'm sorry, I'm too busy."
If an opportunity comes their way, successful people do what it takes to make it happen. Sure, this might mean longer hours occasionally, but if you want something to work, that is what it takes. After all, according to Lao-Tzu: "Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don’t want to.’”

10. "That was all my idea."
Again, as mentioned in number four, the most successful people spread the wealth when it comes to doling out praise from a successful project. No idea is truly one’s own -- it’s a sum of their experiences from interacting and building off of collaborative ideas with a team. Doling out praise and encouragement is a crucial part of building a successful company and culture.
Related: 5 Things You Never Should Say to a Client

11. "I never read books."
Tom Corley of Rich Habits found that rich people read (and listen to) books at a much higher rate than poor people: “63 percent of wealthy parents make their children read two or more non-fiction books a month vs. 3 percent of poor.” Also, “63 percent of wealthy listen to audio books during commute to work vs. 5 percent of poor people.” Reading non-fiction (as well as fiction) can help reduce stress, enhance creativity and boost your memory.

12. "I'm not good enough."
Part of being successful is having a high sense of self-worth. Being yourself is one trait that promises success in business and your personal life. Follow your true interests. What you would do in your life if you didn’t need money?

13. "It's OK." (over and over)
Successful people know when to walk away and stop taking excuses from others. If there is a bottleneck and something (or someone) is preventing you from completing a project on time, build up your business, or move you forward in your goals, then it’s time to set boundaries and decide to limit your involvement.

14. "If our competitors don't have it, then we don't need it."
Copying competitors is one of the many possible deaths for most companies. True innovation comes from the flip side: figuring out what competitors aren’t doing and fill that niche to answer a need in the industry.

15. "Time off is for suckers."
True success should be seen as a well-rounded approach, one with vacations, weekends with friends and family and hours of downtime on the weekdays. While workload varies for everyone at times, taking vacation can make you better at your job.
Sometimes to get to where you want to be, the best and easiest thing to do is to simply follow the examples that others set for you.
What phrases are you going to eliminate from your day-to-day conversations and thinking?
Nairaland GeneralNigeria’s Oando Plans $350 Mln Gas Processing Plant by AvimsPS(op): 1:23am On Dec 08, 2015
Nigeria’s Oando plans to build a gas plant for up to $350 million as it focuses on integrating gas production with its supply business, the head of the gas and power unit said on Thursday.

Bolaji Osunsanya, Managing Director of Oando Gas and Power said the plant, with a capacity to process 300 million standard cubit feet a day (scfd), will take 24 months to complete and cost $300 million to $350 million.

He said Nigeria had room to ramp up gas plants as current capacity was around 2 billion scfd, adding that its project was at the development stage to be launched in the first quarter.

London-listed Nigerian firm Seplat is also boosting gas capacity. It plans to increase gross output from around 120 million to 400 million scfd by 2017, as demand grows.
“We have done transport in the past, we are getting into (gas) processing right now,” Osunsanya told Reuters in an interview. “We are working ourselves up the chain.”

Oando’s gas and power unit reported a net income of $19 million for the nine months to September, down from $22 million the previous year.

Lagos-listed parent Oando, with interests in oil exploration, terminals and oil trading, has said it was seeking approvals to sell its gas and power investment to cut debt and raise up to 80 billion naira from shareholders.

Two years ago, Africa’s biggest economy broke up its monopoly on power generation and distribution by privatising the sector, hoping to attract foreign investors.

But the amount of power produced has stagnated since, failing to reach a 2012 peak of 4,500 megawatts of electricity due to gas constraints, plant outages and tripped circuits, according to Transmission Company of Nigeria.

Osunsanya estimated Nigeria will need around $55 billion over the next seven years to develop gas infrastructure to meet growing demand, which would include building new pipelines, processing plants and drilling of new wells.
He estimated demand at 5 billion scfd, of which 3.5 billion was needed for power and the rest for other uses. However, half the 7.5 billion scfd gas generated was flared or reinjected into the ground due to inadequate pipelines for distribution.
