Hapoel Beer Sheva midfield star, John Ogu, has slammed the Confederation of African Football, CAF, for leaving out two of his national teammates, Wilfred Ndidi and William Troost-Ekong from Africa’s Best X1 squad for 2018 reports Completesports.com. The CAF Best X1 for 2018 list was made known at the CAF gala awards ceremony in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday with no Nigerian player making the shorlist – a decision which left Ogu bemused. EXPOSED!! The secret asian tonic that will regrow your hair Ogu also questioned the inclusion of Juventus centre back Mehdi Benatia and Tottenham Hotspur’s right back Serge Aurier who were included in the four man defence line listed by CAF. “Let’s put sentiment aside, I can argue this anywhere that @Ndidi25 ,@WTroostEkong, even @ighalojude all should be there. Award is based on your performance for club and country and not how big of a club you play in. Ndidi plays for arguably the best league in the world,”Ogu stated via his official Twitter handle. “My brothers @Ndidi25 , @WTroostEkong. We are proud of you two. I see you guys everyday in the National team and I see how dedicated and motivated you both are. I’m super proud of you two. Never stop working . You guys are destined for the top.” “Ekong, Ndidi had a better season for their clubs,Made it to the World Cup. Had a decent performance at the World Cup and you say clubs they play in?Aurier , Bailly,Keita all didn’t make it.” Sorry to say this but @Ndidi25 should be here . My own opinion. Guys in that position didn’t do more than him.” “[Mehdi] Benatia, [Serge] Aurier are not even regulars for their clubs.” The Africa Best XI include: Denis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns/Uganda), Serge Aurier (Tottenham/Ivory Coast), Medhi Benatia (Juventus/Morocco), Eric Bailly (Manchester United/Ivory Coast), Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli/Senegal). Others are Naby Keita (Liverpool/Guinea), Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid/Ghana), Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City/Algeria); Mohamed Salah (Liverpool/Egypt), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal/Gabon) and Sadio Mane (Liverpool/Senegal). Recall that Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named the 2018 Aiteo African Player of the Year for a second successive time. He beat his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Arsenal and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the award. |
Arsenal star Alex Iwobi has revealed he could have joined Scottish side, Celtic as a teenager in 2012 reports Completesportsnigeria.com. The 22-year-old forward told Arsenal’s matchday programme he declined offers from the Scottish side to prove himself at the club. “It was up to me and at that moment I went to the Crystal Palace training ground to see them.” “I had offers from Celtic and Southampton as well. Celtic was the main one but I wasn’t ready to go to Scotland. I thought it was best to stay at Arsenal but I have to say it felt weird.” “I was playing for England but I felt maybe I wasn’t rated. My England team-mates and everyone else was getting in my ear saying that Arsenal don’t love me because they weren’t offering me a deal.” “It was hard especially because at school as well everyone was talking about it.” Iwobi has become a regular for Unai Emery’s Gunners this season has made nine starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored. |
Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has partially thrown in the towel in his bid to wrestle talented QPR teen prospect Ebere Eze from England after his debut for the U20s. Ebere trained with the Super Eagles of Nigeria during their camping exercise in England and even took part in a test game organised by Rohr among the players after the cancellation of a planned friendly game. Unlike Ola Aina who has since gone on to establish himself as a full fledged international since that camp exercise in London, Eze wasn’t approached by Rohr since then despite his fine form for QPR in the English Championship. England finally got wind of his potentials and offered the 20 year old a spot in their U20 team and Rohr has now confirmed in an interview with Collin Udoh that Nigeria stand a very slim chance of luring him from England now. “So could he still be in Nigeria’s plans? “Yes,” Rohr told KweséESPN, before admitting that the road is now just that little bit tougher: “But it will be a long process before authorisation for him to play for us.” |
