RomanceRe: Ladies: How Long Before You Accept A Wooing Guy? by aweleokolo: 4:37pm On Nov 24, 2012
Sagamite: That is the average time it takes a total stranger to be engaged to a Naija girl when im looks don dey disappear and she don turn to ATM (Anxious To Marry). grin

bongila, take note. wink grin
grin I think there is a need to be smart about this business of wooing.
It is important for me to know the guy to a significant extent before intimacy and feelings start getting complicated.
Stuff like blood type, occupation, HIV status tongue etc.
I met the last guy that started toasting me about a year ago. We were just acquaintances.
Last month he started the formal toasting process and I was actually interested in him
...until he forgot his cell phone at my place and I found out he was a yahoo guy. cry

I can't go to jail for love.
RomanceRe: Ladies: How Long Before You Accept A Wooing Guy? by aweleokolo:
At least 3 months if the guy is a total stranger.
It depends on how long I have known the guy and if his background checks out.

Can't be increasing my list of exes on a weekly basis? huh
If I must increase "My Number" I need to be sure that its something meaningful.
PhonesRe: Samsung Launches Galaxy Note2 In Lagos by aweleokolo: 2:00pm On Nov 24, 2012
Bros you can actually use a little utility called extsd2internalsd and which is found at the xdadevelopers website to turn your sd card to phone memory and phone memory to sd card. But you need to be rooted to achieve that.

Since I got my Note II, I have been using it for my 64GB sdxc card and I couldn't be happier. Also have had no problems so far.

So that issue isn't a big deal and Note II is a beast that can't be compared with any other currently existing phones.
But why do we have to go through the hassle of rooting? Especially when rooting your device can be risky. I'll pay 94k for the phone, 5k for the cover then come home and start rooting again?
Please where did you get your 64GB MicroSD card and how much? huh
PhonesRe: Samsung Launches Galaxy Note2 In Lagos by aweleokolo: 9:56pm On Nov 23, 2012
This device is not so awesome with just 16GB model available.
Samsung created a hype promising 3 models 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. But they released 32 and 64 only in Asia.angry

There's the issue of MicroSD memory card of up to 64GB but the problem now is, you can't install apps on your memory card, just music, movies and pictures.angry

This is just nonsense as far as I'm concerned. I've waited for this device since August only for Samsung to sell us the basic 16GB model only! So annoying and I'm not even buying that nonsense.

Okay, after going through most of the comments here, its clear that many men and women here are married/ intend to get married for all the wrong reasons.

When you make that vow before God to love a person forever, it says nothing about children. Its about standing by your partner unconditionally.

I think we should think about this before we say "I do".

People have children that are a constant source of misery, shame and disappointment to them. People have kids that die.
Marriage is not for making babies.

HealthRe: HIV Infections Fall, U.N. Says Ending AIDS “feasible” by aweleokolo: 11:08am On Nov 23, 2012
supereagle: An end to the worldwide AIDS epidemic is in sight, the United Nations says, mainly due to better access to drugs that can both treat and prevent the incurable human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes the disease.

Progress over the past decade has cut the death toll and helped stabilize the number of people infected with HIV, the U.N. AIDS program said in its annual report on Tuesday.

“The global community has embarked on an historic quest to lay the foundation for the eventual end of the AIDS epidemic. This effort is more than merely visionary. It is entirely feasible,” UNAIDS said.

Some 34 million people were living with HIV at the end of 2011, the report said. Deaths from AIDS fell to 1.7 million in 2011, down from a peak of 2.3 million in 2005 and from 1.8 million in 2010.

Worldwide, the number of people newly infected with HIV, which can be transmitted via blood and by semen during sex, is also falling. At 2.5 million, the number of new infections in 2011 was 20 percent lower than in 2001.

“Although AIDS remains one of the world’s most serious health challenges, global solidarity in the AIDS response during the past decade continues to generate extraordinary health gains,” the report said.

It said this was due to “historic success” in bringing HIV programs to scale, combined with the emergence of new combination drugs to prevent people from becoming HIV infected and from dying from AIDS.

“The pace of progress is quickening – what used to take a decade is now being achieved in 24 months,” said Michel Sidibé, executive director of UNAIDS. “We are scaling up faster and smarter than ever before. It is the proof that with political will and follow through we can reach our shared goals.”

TIMELY TREATMENT

Since 1995, AIDS drug treatment – known as antiretroviral therapy – has saved 14 million life-years in poorer countries, including 9 million in sub-Saharan Africa, the report said.

Sub-Saharan Africa is the most severely affected region with almost one in every 20 adults infected, nearly 25 times the rate in Asia, there are also almost 5 million people with HIV in south, southeast and east Asia combined.

Some 8 million people were being treated with AIDS drugs by the end of 2011, a 20-fold increase since 2003. The United Nations has set a target to raise that to 15 million people by 2015.

“Scaling up HIV treatment to 15 million people … is feasible and has the crucial triple benefit of reducing illness, reducing death, and reducing the risk of transmission,” said Manica Balasegaram of the charity Medecins Sans Frontieres.

But he said the pace must be stepped up “so that every month more people are started on life-saving HIV treatment than the month before”.

Scientific studies have shown that getting timely treatment to those with HIV can also cut the number of people who become newly infected with the virus.

UNAIDS said the sharpest declines in new HIV infections since 2001 were in the Caribbean and in sub-Saharan Africa – where new infections were down 25 percent in a decade.

Despite this, sub-Saharan Africa still accounted for 71 percent of people newly infected in 2011, underscoring the need to boost HIV prevention efforts in the region, UNAIDS said. Of the 1.7 million AIDS-related deaths in 2011, 1.2 million were in sub-Saharan Africa.

HIV trends are also a concern in other regions, it said.

Since 2001, the number of new HIV infections in the Middle East and North Africa was up more than 35 percent from 27,000 to 37,000, it said, and evidence suggests HIV infections in Eastern Europe and Central Asia began increasing in the late 2000s after being relatively stable for several years.

For me I think the lesson to be learnt here is simple:
DON'T HURT WHAT YOU CAN'T KILL.

I have to give it to Kola Boof. grin That woman made a promise of vengeance and saw it through.

We women need to be careful how we treat other women when we thing we have it all and we feel like Divas.
Women can be very are dangerous when we are angry with men, but when one is mad at another woman, there is no telling how far she will go.

Learn to treat people with respect even if you think them lesser beings. lipsrsealed

I gave my very first salary to my father.

He prayed for me and blessed me. smiley
Then he gave me some of it to keep and some to take to church.
Then he shared the rest between my sister, brother and mother.

It was just 30k but he was soo proud.
That was in 2007.
Today I'm 10 times more.

Then it was just eye pencil on the brows and lips in boarding school.

By 19, I started experimenting with foundation and lipgloss that was in 200 level I think.

As for the women who only get tested during pregnancy, i'll suggest you do it more often.

Please does anyone know how to lead a team of beginner joggers?

I like to jog to keep my weight down and my heart healthy smiley
Jogging alone got boring and unsafe so I sent out an email to my neighbours asking for people who were interested in jogging.
To my surprise I have 5 interested candidates already out of 15. I wasn't expecting more than 2. shocked

Problem now is, I'm no fitness instructor. I don't even have a loud voice and I don't think I know how to motivate people. embarassed
They might expect me to lead them and I am honestly clueless undecided
Should we stretch first before/after we jog? huh
I just want to make happier people with healthier bodies.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Protestants Use The Rosary? by aweleokolo: 11:37am On Nov 18, 2012
The Rosary today is more or less a fashion accessory thanks to the Hip-hop and latino media.

The other day I saw a Mallam hawking rosaries along with other beads and necklaces. sad

As a catholic, the Holy Rosary is a symbol or our relationship and respect for the Mother of our God. I haven't seen any none catholics pray with it but I see many wearing it today. huh

Few non-Catholic churches even recognise Mary or believe she deserves any significant mentioning. I can't imagine what they say on those beads or why they use them in their prayers. lipsrsealed

I guess its okay to copy what the first Church does, even if you aren't sure of its meaning. undecided

Technology MarketWill Samsung Ever Release The Galaxy Note 2 32/64GB Model (False Advertising)? by aweleokolo(op): 12:32pm On Nov 08, 2012
I've been waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 since August 29.
I'm a heavy user and my main attraction to this device is the large screen and the proposed large internal memory capacity of as much as 64GB.

Now, its been released internationally and even here in Nigeria but I can't seem to find anyone selling the 32/64gb variant (model) undecided!
Further research revealed that they only released it in Korea and have stopped production of the model. cry

16GB, which is so readily available is such a waste of money because you can't install apps directly on the MicroSD card, so getting 64GB MicroSD card almost pointless.
It's so annoying and frustrating. I feel like Samsung lied to me! huh embarassed

High Moral/Ethical standards as a strength: You don't steal, cheat, take bribes etc.

As a weakness: Given our very corrupt Nigerian enviroment, you may be percieved by some as being strict, unprogressive, and "unwilling to do what it takes" to keep the job.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Tips For Personal Assistant Interview?? by aweleokolo: 3:09pm On Nov 03, 2012
I am a PA and I enjoy my job.

First, you should be prepared to work longer hours than other employees especially when your boss requires it.

Discretion in paramont in this role. You will be privileged to classified information by virtue of your position.

During your interview be calm, polite and straight to the point. In my experience, MD's like people who can communicate clearly and quickly. Make your point, give relevant examples and stop.

Emphasise that your ethicaland moral standards and integrity when you are asked about your strengths and weaknesses.

Be sure you are competent with Microsoft Office tools and outlook. (Excel and Word are about to be your new best friends)

Make it clear that you are willing to work flexible hours and travel when required.

To show that you are interested in the job and your career, ask them what your typical day as an assistant will be like? Ask your scope of work and find out about your career progression withing the organisation. (Unless you want to be a PA forever)

Don't bring up salary talk until they do. When they do? Ask them what the previous person in that role was earning. They will play on your lack of experience so highlight your strengths and negotiate careful. But act like it isn't all about the money. Act like you are more interested in the oppourtunity to support and contribute to the success of the management team.

Finally, remember to pray for Guidance and Favour. That His Will be done.
Goodluck.
