ATTENTION! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!! Fond memories of the African Nations cup flooded head in the last few days, in light of this I will be compiling the names of football stars who made the Nations cup thick but somehow failed to lift the coveted trophy. You'll be amazed by the names of African stars who were success stories with their clubs in Europe but couldn't replicate their club form in the continent. It will take the format; debut at the Nations cup, position and qualities of the footballer plus most memorable moments. Eg Comoros island Jackie Chan: He was an attack minded goalkeeper who made his debut in the 2003 Nations co-hosted by Namibia and Egypt, he appeared in three Nations cup finals Most memorable moment: Poured libation on the woodwork when Stephanie Otobo missed a penalty that would have qualified Sao Tome and Vice principal for the first ever final in 2005. For a country largely divided across ethnic and religious lines, it was always going to be burdensome for her citizens to coexist peacefully in the face of this leanings. The easiest line of defense for any religious violence is usually "blame Lord Luggard". Should we continue blaming Late Sir Frederick Lugard for merging an otherwise incompatible entity, shouldn't the government at the centre be held responsible for not finding the perfect formula that'll make for a harmonious coexistence? The 1967 civil war was majorly a fallout of the 1966 Igbo massacre in the North, since then the country has witnessed series of violence that bear religious and ethnic colourations. These violence usually takes the peculiar path of destroying/burning churches and mosques and killing of the believers of both faith. Lately, religious violence have taken a rather frightening dimension where Christian communities in the North are sought out to be exterminated. The activities of Fulani Herdsmen in the last 12 months have been a cause of concern for many Nigerians, so much uproar greeted the genocide in Agatu and some other pockets of killings carried across the parts of the south east, south south and north central zones. Southern Kaduna, an area dominated by Christians is in the spotlight for the wrong all the wrong reasons, the Fulani herdsmen are on the rampage, sniffing life out of the inhabitants thereof, I have lost count of the many mass burials they have taken place there in the last three months, last few days, graphic pictures of families either burned or slaughtered by these agents of darkness flooded the internet . It's nauseating that the President till date hasn't bothered to call the perpetrators of these dastardly acts to order, in fact in the thick of last violence, he hurriedly sent a jet fighter to Gambia during the Jammeh, Barrow impasse while his country was boiling. Anyone who dares to speak against this trending evil is seen as an enemy of the state and is immediately picked up the DSS, yet I have a roll call of Northern elites who have made many inciting comments who are yet to see a DSS van. Palpable calm returned immediately President Buhari went on vacation and the usual sycophants went on their praise singing spree of how the country has fared better in the absence of the first citizen. They were caught off guard by the herdsmen who wrecked havoc in the same measure since they launched their first attack, interestingly two German archaeologists were kidnapped 24 hours after the attack in kaduna, the Acting President immediately summoned the Service chiefs and directed them to launch a search and rescue mission for the two expatriates while the southern Kaduna massacre didn't even get a mention. How long will the southern Kaduna people continue to be slaughtered by their enemies? Who will stop the Fulani herdsmen? |
