SportsRe: Nigeria (0) - Argentina (1) In 2008 Olympics Final by Ayinke(f): 7:55am On Aug 27, 2008
I agree with you thendo and well said. I have a lot of respect for athletes throughout the continent. Not only are fans more supportive in the Western world but so is the government. In countries like the United States, the government pours money into physical education so children are exposed to a wide range of sports in public school. Most neighborhoods are planned with children in mind. There are playgrounds and community centers where children can play and train for free and programs you can enroll children in at reasonable prices. Even in low income areas, there are places where children can play sports. In Nigeria, where can children safely play or train in football or any other sport they want to for free? It's hard enough trying to find equipment that isn't ridiculously over priced. Here government housing and other government buildings don’t even have parking lots, not to mention play grounds or community centers. I don’t know what Nigerian athletes are paid or how much the government invests in training athletes but I know they can do more. Our athletes are able to excel when the odds are against them because of their love of the game and their country.

Also, I’m kind of tired of people using the weather as an excuse. It gets much hotter than that in Argentina. And there are places in Nigeria that are cooler than Argentina. Before the final, commentators were saying that the Nigerian team arrived in Beijing early so they could acclimate to the weather. After the final, perhaps to make Argentina look better since they could only get one goal out of us, suddenly we have an advantage and we are used to playing these conditions. It was one of the hottest days in the tournament. Both sides had problems with the heat.

I'm pretty sure I heard the commentator say, Obasi didn't play because he was sick with a virus.

If there's any truth to that, I hope he feels better soon.

Nigeria played very well and should feel proud and motivated by this experience. With all their star power (Messi, Riquelme, Sosa, Levezzi, Gago and the rest) Argentina only scored once. Messi, their biggest star, never scored! Our boys kept him in check. I don't know why some of you guys are being so negative. As if other people are not going to be putting our boys down enough. They should have more love and support from their country. They represented Nigeria very well. I think our defense was really good and we are good with possession. Unfortunately, we did have opportunities to score but couldn't finish. Argentina's only goal came from a mistake from our keeper. Still, I have faith that Nigeria will just get better and better. Siasia is a great coach. I could see improvement in the boys with every game. Congratulations to Nigeria. I'm glad our boys played an honest game. The diving and time wasting from the Argentinians was just shameful. Sometimes I think we need to learn how to play dirty tongue since it so common in the game. But I'm also glad we got far without having to go that route.
SportsRe: England Defender Rio Ferdinand Made A Chief In Nigeria by Ayinke(f): 8:46am On Jun 13, 2008
I agree with A-40 but it looks like just about any Western celebrity that comes to Nigeria can become a chief or have a street named after them. So what the hell , it has lost its meaning.
PropertiesRe: How To Buy Or Rent Property In Nigeria? by Ayinke(op): 7:44am On Apr 01, 2008
I am in Nigeria but it's so hard to get direct answers from family or anyone else. Maybe people are too overprotective here?
PropertiesHow To Buy Or Rent Property In Nigeria? by Ayinke(op): 6:22pm On Mar 31, 2008
What is the process of renting/buying property in Nigeria? How do you obtain an agent? How much are the agents fees? Are there any tricks/gimmicks/scams I should be aware of? Please include as much information as possible because I don't know a thing. undecided

Thanks.

Thanks somze and dayooye. I have a feeling I will just end up selling it but I will look into getting an accelerator and at some of your other suggestions first.
ComputersRe: Yahoo Messenger Closes When I Click Sign In by Ayinke(f): 11:50am On Mar 23, 2008
I had the same problem. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and cleaning my registry but the only thing that worked was turning on the logging option and reporting the problem to yahoo under "help". It took about a week before they forwarded the problem to an engineer who fixed it. So I guess it was something on their end. With YIM tech support you have to be persistent and patient. They might not get back to you right away.
ComputersRe: What's Wrong With Starcomms Internet? by Ayinke(f): 11:34am On Mar 23, 2008
I heard a few negative things about Starcomms before I signed up but friends suggested that their services might be better here in Abuja and to give them a try. Also, Multilinks wasn't taking new customers at the time because of upgrades. Starcomms advertises the 3G EVDO as broadband but you're right, it isn't. It doesn't matter if I surf during business hours or at 2 am, the connection is always slow.

Before signing up I asked if the service was in my area and they told me it was. But the broadband signal usually is not available and I almost always have to switch to 1x which is dial up speed. When I'm lucky enough to get the broadband signal it disconnects me after a few minutes of use. Another problem: the starter kit (which cost N23,500) came with 250 hours. There is a clock that shows how long you have been connected but there isn't anything that shows the total amount of time spent on your account. You're responsible for adding this up. Every time you visit a technician (which is often), they are going to use your account and the time they spend will not be credited back to you. Seems unfair considering all the problems come from their end. With a real broadband connection, I wouldn't need to use more than 50 hours in a month. But with Starcomms I can spend hours without accomplishing a single task. I can't believe they have the nerve to charge people N15,000+ a month for this. People pay less than half of what Starcomms is charging, for faster and reliable connections, in other countries. There are even places where you can browse for free. Here, it seems like businesses can say whatever it takes to get your money and they are not held accountable for it. And there's too many companies that cut corners to maximize their profits. Who is looking out for the consumer?
BusinessRe: Which Bank Is The Most Customer Friendly In Nigeria? by Ayinke(f): 7:43pm On Mar 12, 2008
All of the banks suck. Their employees act like they don't want to work and when they do work they act like their doing you a favor.
ComputersRe: What's Wrong With Starcomms Internet? by Ayinke(f): 7:33pm On Mar 12, 2008
I recently moved to Nigeria and subscribed to Starcomms about a month ago. I'm experiencing the same problems wisemikky mentnioned. However, I'm using their CDMA 1x EVDO service. It's supposed to be a broadband connection but it works more like a 56k dial up , when it's working. Most of the time when I try to connect with EVDO, I get a "no service" or "invalid username/password" message. When I connect with 1x I get a "dormant" message even when I'm active or downloading. It can take up to 2 hours to download a file that's 5mb and if the service goes dormant during a download sometimes I have to start over.

I tried to return the product the first week but they didn't want to discuss a refund and kept making excuses. First they were doing upgrades and said the problem would be cleared up in a day a two. Then their technicians told me to upgrade my ram even though my laptop (which is less than a year old) far exceeds the requirements recommended by the manufacturer of their air cards. Some technicians told me the signal in my area is weak, others tell me it's ok. Now the excuse is I'm using a new number and it's going to take time before it's working correctly. How much time? I don't know because they don't return emails or answer their phone and the technicians at their office are full of crap don't have answers. I would have never signed up if I knew they were in the middle of upgrades or if the signal in my area was weak. Personally, I don't think they should take on new customers if the service is not working as advertised because of upgrades. or whatever the problem is. At the very least, they should give us that information beforehand. In another week it will be a month since I subscribed and it doesn't seem like this problem will be resolved anytime soon. Do consumers have any rights here or do we just have to live with being ripped off? huh
Christianity EtcRe: Is Bible The Word of God? by Ayinke(f): 3:50am On Nov 27, 2005
RhodaRose:
Would God "inspire" what was not His Word?
One can be inspired anything but that doesn’t mean that thing is putting the words in your mouth. The Bible is not Gods word; it was inspired by the belief in God and the need to teach righteousness in human beings. It is what the verse is saying.

nferyn:
Not entirely correct. Some early churches did not a accept the trinity while others did. Among the churches that did accept the trinity, few took the orthodox catholic interpretation.
But where can you find the Trinity in the Gospel? The only person who talked about it is Paul and he was not a disciple of Jesus. Never met him … only in the book of Acts where he met Jesus in his dream and gave four conflicting accounts of it.
IslamRe: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Ayinke(f): 12:25am On Nov 27, 2005
Muslims believe in Jesus and all the Prophets. So, NO we don’t have to go to church to have the word “properly administered” because we already have the Torah, Bible and Qur’an. The Holy Qur'an states:

It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was guidance and light. By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the prophets who bowed (as in Islam) to Allah's will, by the rabbis and the doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of Allah's book, and they were witnesses thereto: therefore fear not men, but fear me, and sell not my signs for a miserable price. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) Unbelievers.

We ordained therein for them: "Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." But if any one remits the retaliation by way of charity, it is an act of atonement for himself. And if any fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (No better than) wrong-doers.

And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah.

Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel.

To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. It is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute.

Holy Qur’an Sura 5:44-48

But thanks anyway goodguy wink

Kenya:
This is silly how we are getting worked up about his. If we cannot be peaceful and logical then wy are we posting things? This is not about being bias, we should speak clear truth.

I agree that the Language from each ethnic group may mean the same. But the understanding of Allah is different, Arab or not, African or not, American or not. It's not really the language it's the understanding of Who Allah is. It's mixed up with his prophets and so many different idea's from mankind that makes Allah a ghost or something else, even makes Allah a Man. This is All wrong and there has to be clarity so that people will know the truth about Allah, his prophets and the truth of heaven and earth, Jinns, and everything else created.
That's what Islam represents.

Allah says in the Qu'arn that he perferred Islam as our way of life. He did not say that it was mandatory or that it was better than anyother religion, He aid that it was the way that he preferred. Allah respects every path so why are we trippen.
Hey Kenya, I’m not worked up. I just got here smiley Every human being is given free will to accept or not accept and face the consequences of their choices. Allah states in the Qur’an: “Let there be no compulsion in religion. The right course has become clear from error. So whoever disbelieves in idols and believes in Allah has grasped the most trusthworthy handhold with no break in it.” Allah also says to us: “On this day I have perfected your religion for you and chosen for you Islam.” Also, Muslims recite Sura Fatiha at every prayer, which asks Allah to guide us on “the straight path”, and not the path where Allah's "wrath is brought down” or “those who go astray.” Clearly, there is a right way and a wrong way ... a good way and a bad way. But maybe I'm misunderstanding you.
IslamRe: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Ayinke(f): 11:00pm On Nov 26, 2005
In Yoruba the word for God is Oluwa. In Igbo the word for God is Chineke. When the Bible is translated into Arabic for Arab Christians, the word for God is Allah. So, are you guys saying that when Christian Arabs are praying to Allah (in their language) they are praying to a Muslim God? This is just silly. No matter what Arabic Bible you read the word for God in it is ALLAH.

What did Abraham call God? He was born in Mesopotamia which is now Iraq? I’m pretty sure Abraham never used the English word “God” but his own language.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Bible The Word of God? by Ayinke(f): 10:44pm On Nov 26, 2005
In 2 Timothy 3:16 it says:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

This means that the Bible is not God’s dictation - it is inspired ... but not God’s word.

The Trinity was added by the Romans (Emperor Constantine) and was never taught in the early Churches. And there are so many other things in the Bible, like human sacrifice and incest, which clearly could not have come from God.
