tpacalipse: There is this camry 1996 model I own. Lately, the auto gear started misbehaving. It will get to gear 2 when on motion and will refuse to go to 3 frm there no matter how u press the pedal. We drained the ATF which was very black in colour with not too good smell (not burnt sha), removed the filter and we saw some big crumbs of metal trapped in the filter. Mech told me the auto gear is bad so we shud buy a new one, but we fix the filter back after washing as we cud not find a new one in my area. We added new ATF, the gear started behaving well again for like two days after which it went back to d previous attitude. Shud I buy a new gear and how much would that cost me? Check engine light is on but I have refused to scan the car because I know that all these people in my area with scan machine don't know jack (I have had experience with them with my father's car) and they over charge. I leave in Ekiti, so u shud understand.

stafmedia: Good day all, am a civil servant with a monthly income of about 60k and about to take delivery of either of American specification of 1999 Mercedes Benz c230 or a 2001 c240 when I give the word if which I prefer of the two or any other brand.
My questions are will either of this cars be difficult to maintain (ie servicing, part replacements etc.) in abuja with regards to my income?
What are the differences between that with a compressor and one without?
Which one (1999 c230 or 2001 c240) should be the preferred one for use in abuja?
Where can I locate a good mechanic and rewire technician for Benz in abuja?
If either of this cars are a no go what brand/year of car do I go for bearing in mind my income.
Please note that I can afford to buy either of them but the maintenance and other costs to be associated/incurred while running them are my worry. I need your suggestions as I need to get back to my dealer before the end of the month

Please go for the 1999 c230 considering your income. Though the car hardly breaks down, i am not an Abuja resident so i can't offer any advice on mechanics or Auto Electrician in Abuja. But please don't ever take the car to road side mechanics or auto electrician, always do a diagnostics check before carrying out any repair. Good luck.

Both the green and the red lights are for the security system. The red light on the inner mirror blinks when you use the remote control unit to lock the doors while green one blinks when you open the doors with the remote. As for the security issue, please this is not made to be taken to "cut & nail mechanics", always do a scan from qualified diagnostics centre. This car is a wonderful machine & powerfully rugged, the engine can last "4ever". I am sure the Germans must be regretting why they made this car so strong. This car has no match in the Toyota category.

The 2 brothers managing this garage inherited it from their late father who was a Benz mechanic. Their blood is hot, they both read Mechanical & Automobile Engineering. Someone directed me to the garage while i was on vacation during the last Christmas after i have been ripped off in Warri & Ado Ekiti by "cut & nail mechanics" because the auto gear box of my C-Class 200 refused to shift from gear one. These guys were wonderful, i guess they should be in their late 20's. D fault was diagnosed & corrected and the car has been performing wonderfully well since then. Most of those mechanics brandishing diagnosing machines are illiterates who cannot read what is indicated on the computer only for them to tell you "it has entered code" after removing the said code, the problem reoccurs again and you will always be at the receiving end.

That bad road in d pix may be one of Ota township roads, but definitely not Obasanjo farms road. The road leading to Obasanjo farms is well tarred with street light constructed by Ado- Odo/Ota Local Government. The farm area enjoys uninterrupted power supply 24/7.
