He left his girlfriend to rob neighbours but could notmake it back home, as irate youths mobbed him to death before police could have him rescued. This was how an armed robber operating on a motorcycle lost his life at the weekend in Warri, Delta State. His girlfriend, who was seen at the scene crying uncontrollably, said he left the house yesterday morning unknowing to her that he was into robbery in the neighbourhood. Residents had thronged the scene to catch a glimpse of the robber, and the lady too wanted to catch a glimpse. But on reaching there, she found out that the young man was her lover. She broke into tear on sighting the mutilated corpse and when she was asked why she was wailing over a suspected ‘armed robber’, she said “he was my boyfriend”. It was learnt that the armed robber and another member of his gang operating on motorcycle had robbed an unsuspecting neighbour near Enerhen junction of money meant to pay his workers. They were fleeing with the unspecified sum when neighbours started shouting “thief, thief”, prompting a hot chase during which the girl’s lover was caught at the Okoro Street, but not after he had shot four persons in a desperate bid to escape. The other suspect, however, ran faster and was able to escape the mob. The lover boy, according to source, in a bid to escape was shooting sporadically into the air to scare his pursuers. The fired shots however hit four persons who were later hospitalized. A source said; “But his trailers were undeterred in spite of the fact that four persons were hit by the stray bullet fired by the desperate robber”. “Apparently, the determination of residents of the area who were bent on catching the robber dead or alive paid off when he (the armed bandit) attempted to shoot a man putting on boxers and singlet”.

Many people are still considering whether to go with an Android-powered phone or a BlackBerry device. Thus, in this article, we provide a guide about the pros and cons of each platform to assist buyers in making informedchoices. Android From the looks of it Android seems to be the new kid from onthe block. Introduced by Google way back in 2007, Android has grown tremendously in just a short time. Here is a shortlist of why Android is so great, and not-so-great. Android Pros *. Open Source. What makes Android shine out from the rest of the crowd is its being open source. This attracts many programmers and developers from all walks of life, as Google freely distributes its source code for the Linux kernel and other publicly licensed code for anyonewho wants to contribute to the development of the software. In short, programmers and developers alike can easily whip out their own versions of Android custom-tailored whatever pleases them. *. Applications. There’s an app for almost every situation, and since its inception, Android primarily focuses on enhancing user experience with the use ofapplications. With hundreds of thousands of apps in the Android Market, users will be overwhelmed by truckloads of apps that easily integrate with the Android OS to cater to their needs. *. Hardware. In terms of hardware, Android by far has the most numerous choices of smartphones to date. Mobile phone manufacturers like Sony Ericsson, Samsung, HTC, and Motorola offer customers a wide variety of smartphone choices to choose from. Android is flexible enough to run on almost all smartphones as long as it matches the minimum requirements. *. Software. When it comes to software, Android can run multiple apps at the same time as it has swap-space management–a luxury that not all mobile devices support due to hardware limitations. It also has ActiveSync built in natively, which allows you to easily synchronize contacts, mails, andpersonal information once the device is paired to a desktop computer. BlackBerry on the other hand requires some installation of software and a server. Android Cons *. Poor Battery Life. Most Androiddevices experience poor battery life and this is one of the major issues that Google and Android handset manufacturers are still addressing. A typical Android smartphone dies down within a day of normal use compared to BlackBerry’s corporate design that could handle even after a day’s heavy use. BlackBerry The veteran BlackBerry has seen its fair share of ups and downs in the market. Geared towards the corporate world, BlackBerry has adapted new strategies matching close rivals such as Google’s Android. Here is a shortlist of what makes BlackBerry a perfect and not-so-perfect choice among corporate professionals. BlackBerry Pros *. Push Email Technology. Proud owners of BlackBerry devices are always up to date when it comes to messaging. BlackBerry easily integrates push email technology in a breeze, allowingyou to instantly receive messages as soon as they start showing up in your inbox. WithBlackBerry’s push email service, you can easily receive and send messages in just a matter of seconds. *. Hardware. BlackBerry’s elegantkeyboard still remains the number one choice for many ofits customers. The elegant QWERTY keyboard allows fastertyping and accuracy that is not normally found in many of its competitors. BlackBerry also is known for being rugged yet sexy, making it durable and resistant to many forms “abuse.” *. Data Management. The lifeblood that makes BlackBerry phones a stable choice for many corporate officials would be its handling of data compression. BlackBerry phonesare capable enough for compressing data down to half the size, saving you the cost of expensive bandwidth. *. Battery Life. Amongst other competitors, BlackBerry seemingly has the best battery management providing users optimal power consumption in just a single full charge. BlackBerry Cons *. Applications. RIM has managed to follow in the footsteps of Apple by introducing their own BlackBerry App World. With much hype, the app store lacked decent amount of applications and it failed to attract developers with its poorinterfaced leading to its demise. *. Slow Web Browser. Unlike its competitor, BlackBerry has the most sluggish response time when it comes to browsing the Internet. Although BlackBerry features data compression, it still can’t keep pace in loading Web resources like wallpapers and pictures. *. Business-oriented. Achieving its success by bridging the gap to the corporate world, BlackBerry failed to realize how important the average user can be. BlackBerry is looked upon as a corporate tool rather than an average device for the everyday person. My own conclusion Andriod is far better, heard BlackBerry OS 7 May Contain Android Code (thief)

A top security source has told Daily Trust that a German, Raufach Edgar, who was kidnapped in Kano on January 26 this year was killed by his captors this morning before he could be rescued by men of the JTF. The JTF had conducted a raid at Danbare area opposite the new campus of Bayero University Kano this morning after tracing the kidnapped German to the hideout where he was being held but the captors killed him before the JTF could apprehend them. The raid is still ongoing and sporadic shootings are still being heard by residents who are all trapped within their homes and unable to go to work. A military helicopter is also still hovering overhead, providing aerial support to the forces on the ground. The JTF is to brief the press soon on the incident. Raufach Edgar was until his kidnap working with Dantata and Sawoe construction company. He was abducted by two gun men around 8 am on January 26 along the Zaria - Kano expressway were his company is located. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb connection On March 27, a Mauritanian and four other men were arrested in Kano over the January kidnapping. Four of the suspects were arrested in a raid on a supermarket owned by the Mauritanian, while the fifth was held in a separate raid. “Guns and a laptop were recovered in the store and the documents found in the computer, including an AQIM operation manual, showed that the suspects are linked to AQIM (Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb) and were involved in the kidnap of the German engineer in January,” one of the sources said in describing the supermarket raid. AQIM has also disclosed through a private news agency in Mauritania a week before the raid that it was holding the German and that it wanted to swap him for a jailed Muslim woman. A video obtained by the agency, ANI, showed Raupach, his hands tied behind his back, surrounded by masked gunmen. In the video he called on his "parents, friends and German public opinion" to convince Berlin to "bring an end to the torture of our Muslim sister", adding that only her liberation will save his life. AQIM warned that any attempt to rescue Raupach will lead to his death, as happened in the case of Italian engineer Franco Lamolinara and British colleague Chris McManus, killed earlier this month during a failed rescue bid by Nigerian forces. A source, speaking of the Mauritanian, said “he turned the upper floor of his store into a hideout where he housed his three Nigerian accomplices.” Germany responds A release said to be authorised by the German Embassy in Abuja and published as an advert in Daily Trust on May 11, 2012 claimed the German woman in question, had been released. The woman, Filiz Gelowicz, who had converted to Islam and now bears the name Uma Saifullah Al-Ansariya, was released two weeks ago, according to the advert. The publication announcing the release of the jailed German woman said, “100 days missing. Your sister Uma Saifullah Al- Ansariya (Filiz Gelowicz) is free since two weeks. When do you release our brother Edgar?? His friends are waiting for him…” Edgar’s photo was placed by the side of the text of the advert, which also contained a message in Arabic apparently meant to inform the kidnappers of the release of Gelowicz.

Abuja– Spokesperson for President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck, Mr Reuben Abati, has responded to accusations that Jonathan and members of his cabal refused to say amen to at this weekend’s democracy day Church Service when the preacher offered a prayerful curse against corruption amongst public officials. Speaking to reporters, Mr Abati revealed aspects of protocol that are not widely known outside Government circles, and which would explain why Mr President and ministers didn’t say Amen to the prayer by Most Reverend Peter Akinola, committing corrupt politicians to the court of God. According to him, it is a long standing presidential protocol that during Church or Mosque services, the President only offers a fixed number of amens or amis, as the case may be. The Reverend had offered many prayers and demanded many amens prior to the contentious one, Abati explained, the result of which was that the day’s quota of amens had been used up. “Why?” asked the spokesperson, “would President not say amen to a prayer against corruption?” He advised preachers, pastors, imams etc, to familiarise themselves with government protocol and to also limit the length of their prayers and sermons. “It is the same people accusing the President of not saying amen to anti-corruption prayer that would be accusing him of favouritism if he had broken with protocol and said more amens than is allowed by constitution,” Abati said. http://www.wazobiareport.com/reports/Reuben-Abati-explains-why-The-President-didnt-say- Amen-to-Anti-Corruption-Prayer |

The calm atmosphere of Compton compound, a popular off-campus hostel for students of the Federal University of Technology, (FUT) Minna, located at 13 Zarumai Road along Bosso Road, was ruffled penultimate Saturday, as hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers, stormed the compound in an unsuccessful armed robbery operation, but leaving dead a 400 level student, Emmanuel Uduak. According to a male student who lives in Compton compound, “the suspected armed robbers stormed the hostel at about 3.00am in their bid to rob a female student, whom they had trailed from campus to her hostel room that fateful day. Another student who does not want his name in print said the hoodlums forced their way into the girl’s room by breaking her door. He said: “The lady noticed flashes of light and some people flocking around her room, so when she called on one or two persons on their cell phone to tell them what she noticed, their lines were not going through, until she tried Uduak’s line, who picked the call and was coming out to verify the incident. “As the hoodlums noticed a movement from Emmanuel’s end, they didn’t hesitate, but shot him and fled the compound immediately.” This sad incident occurred during a two-week break to mark the end of the first semester. While many students travelled home after the exams, some didn’t, especially some 400 level students who wanted to stay behind for the immediate commencement of their six months Industrial Training (IT). Other students also stayed back in school to do some extra-curricular activities. Emmanuel Uduak until his death, was a 400 level student of Mechanical Engineering Department, and was popularly called ‘Cross’ by his friends. Uduak had it in mind to travel a week earlier, but couldn’t owing to unknown reasons. The undergraduate, who was also to start his IT in some months time was known to be a peace-loving person and dedicated to his studies. As at the time of filing this report, Compton compound which used to be a bubbling place either by the music played from various rooms within the compound or the occupants hanging outside the compound, has been deserted, even as the Police have invited the girl and one other student to assist in their investigations. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State, Mr. Richard Oguche confirmed the incident, saying that the Police had since swung into action and promising to unravel those behind the act. “We have launched a manhunt for the fleeing robbers and we are working hard towards arresting them”, he said. Ever since the incident, many students have relocated to safer places. Further investigation revealed that situations like this are usually what students experience when the school is on break. Some students of the university have at one time or the other experienced such robbery attacks. Reports have it that students have always gone back to school after breaks to discover that their rooms had been burgled and reports made to appropriate quarters have yielded little or no results. http://vanguardngr.com/2012/05/student-killed-as-hoodlums-raid-fut-hostel/ |
