As the Nigerian capital market crisis deepens, the Securities and Exchange Commission has called on the Federal Government to save the market from total collapse.

The Director-General, SEC, Mr. Musa Al-Faki, made the call just as the Nigerian Stock Exchange held a crucial meeting with stockbrokers on the need for a government bail-out of the capital market.

Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan and capital market stakeholders are also expected to meet today in Abuja on the crisis.

Faki, represented by the SEC Executive Commissioner, Legal and Compliance, Mr. Charles Udorah, at the Forum of Accountants-General in Abuja on Monday, also confirmed that the capital market lost N2.08tn in January 2009 alone.

He said the time was ripe for the Federal Government to take controlling interest in sick banks and companies quoted on the NSE in order to boost confidence in the market.

Faki, who added that stockbrokers owed banks a staggering N388bn, advocated the prosecution of the chief executive officers of identified sick banks and firms for contributing to the capital market crisis.

I was shocked about the claim in court by your counsel that you feared for your life and that you are looking for a job.

He is out of point. He has forgotten nobody was expecting Obasanjo/Atiku’s new love affair, so you too might suddenly become a sought after bride.

You have other options, you too can visit Ibori and Co at home with Farida and apologize that what should they have expected from a short young man like you, or if your father in law can get you money to buy a house in Abuja, he can still get you money to do business, links for contract or a job.
