PoliticsRibadu Did Not Visit Nigeria: Inspector General Onovo by ayoola22(op): 7:08am On Sep 18, 2009
Onovo: Police Not Aware of Ribadu’s Visit
By Eugene Agha, 09.18.2009

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ogbonna Onovo yesterday said that the Nigeria Police Force was not aware of the visit of the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, to the country.
Onovo while responding to a question on why the Police did not arrest Ribadu claimed that the report of the former EFCC boss' visit to the country was a lie.
He argued that the media which carried out the report should have provided evidence of Ribadu's visit by taking his picture.
Onovo maintined that except he sees the picture of Ribadu taken during the visit, he will not believe the report that he was in the country.
The former EFCC boss visited the residence of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi to pay his condolence. He had granted interview to some media houses.

PoliticsIs ASUU Mad? by ayoola22(op): 8:13am On Sep 14, 2009
Too much books can made one mad is a general belief and with the dressing and hairstyle of some old lecturers could also be true.

An emperor in the bible also accused Paul of being mad from too much reading.

Former president Obasanjo was in ABU last week and said the solution to the FG/ASUU stalemate is for government to understand ASUU's idiosyncrasy. My interpretation of that big grammar is ASUU's madness.

Really what is the solution, Who is mad, ASUU, FG or both?
PoliticsAccess Bank, Sanusi And The 16 Billion Naira Loan by ayoola22(op): 7:54am On Sep 14, 2009
Is it true that United alliance belonging to the MD and DMD of Access bank owes Intercontinental bank 16 billion according to CBN debtor's list?

Is it true that the money was use to buy access bank shares?

Since Access bank cannot use his own money to buy his own shares, he can float a company and collect money from another bank to buy the shares and return the favour to the other bank by also giving them loan, nice way of beating BOFID

We are told they ve paid back another 1billion so the loan is performing, but is it true that the value of shares is just about 50% of the loan as at now?

The bank might write off the loan but what is Sanusi saying about it?

PoliticsBanks Groan Under N1.25tr Loans To 'big Five' by ayoola22(op): 8:15am On Jul 22, 2009
AN air of discomfort enveloped Nigeria's banking industry following disclosures that about five companies and their directors have literarily compromised funds of shareholders and customers of the financial institutions.

Already, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has opted for a full disclosure strategy to stem the tide of anxiety faced by the lending banks.

As at yesterday, over N1.25 trillion was being owed the banks by the high profile individuals and their companies, with a significant percentage of the debt stock in foreign currencies.

But the debtors have seemingly kept the banks on tenterhooks, forcing them to categorise the liabilities as bad debts that are being written off to cleanse the financial institutions' books.

Indeed, two of the companies and their directors have a debt overhang of $3.75 billion (N550 billion), with a further N280 billion representing the local currency component of their collective liabilities.

Another well-known group of companies, with an equally visible entrepreneur as its majority stakeholder, is allegedly owing $400 million (N58 billion).

Although some of the alleged debtors have denied that they owe the banks, hopes of the affected institutions to recover the loans are fading.

A survey by The Guardian indicated that objectives for which the loans were collected remained largely unachieved, with some of the banks strategising on how to present acceptable financials to their respective shareholders,

The company was sued for the killing of Saro Wiwa and 8 other activists. The family is claiming complicity in right abuse.

They says its just for reconciliation purposes but admits that the family have suffered. I think they are sacred what the jury will decide.

What are they elected to do,

I used to think they are law makers but i cant remember any law of recent ,

pls remind me of any that you know.

They are always on TV doing public sitting and playing to the gallery in the name of oversight duty.

I think they are really elected to make money, that is why we have the big salary, the constituency allowance, the public sitting and the accompanying  allowance, the lobbying by oil company,

Can we make sure our vote count at the next election and vote out a few of them?

PoliticsIf Wole Soyinka Stone President Obama by ayoola22(op): 4:57pm On May 22, 2009
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has condemned the decaying state of affairs in the country and the dwindling status of Nigeria in the international community.
Speaking at an art exhibition at the Italian Embassy, Abuja yesterday, Soyinka said United States President Barack Obama’s decision to visit Ghana ahead of Nigeria in his first trip to Africa is a wise decision.
He said he does not subscribe to the suggestion that President Obama should rather visit Nigeria instead of Ghana, adding that the Nigerian government does not merit such honour.
“If Obama decides to grace Nigeria with his presence, I will stone him. The message he is sending by going to Ghana is so obvious; is so brilliant that he must not render it flawed by coming to Nigeria any time soon,” he said.

"The Ekiti State Chapter of the Progressive Peoples Alliance has dragged the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Segun Oni, before the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, seeking an interpretation over his tenure in office.

In the originating summons filed on Wednesday, the party also joined the Independent National Electoral Commission and Attorney-General of the Federation as co-defendants to the suit.

The PPA also urged the court to take cognisance of the fact that the supplementary election that returned Oni to office on May 6, 2009 was held only in 63 out of the 177 wards of the state, and urged the court to hold that his last oath of May 6 was a continuation of the one he took on May 29, 2007"

Breaking news http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090312/wl_nm/us_iraq_shoethrower_verdict
Iraq shoe thrower sentenced to three years jail
A Baghdad court sentenced an Iraqi reporter who hurled his shoes at former U.S. President George W. Bush to three years in prison on Thursday, a verdict critics said was politically motivated.

Muntazer al-Zaidi earned instant worldwide fame in December when he threw his shoes at the U.S. leader, who spearheaded the 2003 invasion to oust Saddam Hussein, and called him a dog at a news conference.

"This sentence is harsh and is not in harmony with the law, and eventually the defense team will contest this in the appeals court," said Dhiaa al-Saadi, the head of Zaidi's defense team.

The government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was standing next to Bush at the news conference and tried the block the second shoe, described the incident as a "barbaric act."

Outside the courtroom, Zaidi's sister Ruqaiya burst into tears when she heard the verdict, shouting "Down with Maliki, the agent of the Americans."

Opinion on Zaidi, a reporter with al-Baghdadiya television, was divided in Iraq, where the U.S.-led invasion unleashed years of sectarian bloodshed that has killed tens of thousands of Iraqis and displaced many more.

Some said a guest of Iraq should not be insulted, and that the incident embarrassed the country and its journalists.

But Zaidi's action against Bush has been adopted by many as an act of protest, and shoe-throwing has caught on at demonstrations around the world.

"The case is politicized and is an attempt to take revenge on Zaidi. I believe the judges were under political pressure from known factions , the verdict is unfair," said Ahmed al-Masoudi, a spokesman for the anti-American Sadrist movement.

However, legal expert Tareq Harb said the verdict was "far from politicized."

PoliticsLet’s Implement Lagos Rent Control Law by ayoola22(op): 7:38am On Mar 11, 2009
Do you know there are standard rents for different kinds of accommodation in Lagos and to pay more might land someone in jail? Both the person paying and the person collecting are guilty.

Do you know that Baba landlord is not allowed under this law to increase the house rent by more than 20% every 3 years…,

Do you know that for most houses, landlord are not allowed legally to collect 2 years upfront payment, the maximum is 6 months for a new tenant and 3 months for an existing tenant.

Do you know that it’s a law that you should not pay more than 5% for legal fee for preparing your tenancy agreement and also not more than 5% as agency fee? A breach might lead to 2 years in jail.
The Lagos rent control law also seeks to protect a tenant from the landlord’s arbitrariness by saying the tenant can only lose his tenancy after due recovery procedures and processes are complied with, by the landlord.
We should campaign that this law, which full name is The Lagos State Rent Control and Recovery of Residential premises law of 1997 must be enforced in Lagos and copied all over the country.

Do you feel this is possible?

PoliticsCia Or Mugabe; Who Is After Morgan Tsvangirai? by ayoola22(op): 7:14am On Mar 10, 2009
Conspiracy theorists are at it again.
They are asking whether the accident that claimed Susan Tsvangirai and caused the new Zimbabwe prime minister to ‘flee’ to Botswana is really an accident. They are maintaining how come everybody was so sure so soon after the accident that the driver of the haulage truck was asleep at the wheel not drunk, not on the phone but asleep. They are claiming the story was a setup created even before the accident and the target was the Prime Minister though they are not sure even the independent investigation will reveal it.

The suspect for the assassination attempt include Robert Mugabe, whose visit to the hospital is being described as shedding crocodile tears., stalwart of the Zanu party who see Morgan as the only barrier to their continual dominance in power. Others are even mentioning that some people in the prime minister’s party now see him as a traitor for agreeing to the power sharing deal and enjoying the perks of office while some of the party activists are still languishing in jail and they are also pointing out that MDC people knows Morgan’s movement so they have the motive and they have the opportunity.

Some people are also pointing out that the haulage truck that crashed into the car belongs to a foreign aid group and that smells of CIA. Did Morgan disagree with the west, did he go back on his agreement with them because really it’s the western press that really started ‘the driver was asleep campaign’.
PoliticsNational Assembly Bastardize 2009 Budget by ayoola22(op): 7:05am On Mar 10, 2009
Newspapers have carried the story that what the national assembly did to the budget is pure sabotage and the members should be tried for treason. Its alleged that the house bastardized the budget so much that the presidency could not recognize it, maybe that was what led to the controversy last week that the budget was missing.

The house reduced allocations for most core sectors and areas that affect the citizens.

For example the 5.1 billion naira that Government put in the budget to provide water for you and I was reduced to 2 billion, the 6.5 billion to finish the Gas project maybe we will generate a little electricity was slashed to a miserly 1.1 billion. What about the 3.5 billion that was budgeted to transmit electricity so maybe I will finally stop using PHCN as back up to my generator? It was deem too much and reduce to 800million.

With all the reduction surprisingly the total budget was not really reduced because while the house is saying I should do without such basic things as electricity and water, it has increased its own budget from 64 billion naira to 113billion naira. They need more money to buy cars for committee at funny prices and condition, more sitting g allowance, more millions to spend on stationery they never buy etc while you and I can keep on managing.

God dey
