Thanks so much. That means a dependent can come in even if its 1week the MA's edu wants to end.

But i understand cheesy's and bigtt's point of view, cus if i be visa officer i fit deny dependent o, na so i wicked reach, cus i go ask u say why u no come since wey be say na wen ur wife school done nearly end u just dey come
Wouldn't advise anyone to take this risk cause dependent has to apply at least 6 months before MA's visa expires and visa vignette expires within 3 months after issue if I'm correct. Let's not forget also that adult dependent can't be out of the UK for more than 180days in a year so if you add all these info, it's unrealistic for dependent to come in a week before MA's visa expires.

I don't wanna believe the person that got dependent visa of 6 months that extended beyond MA's validity. My guess is that he mistook end of session for end of visa (BRP expiration) cause dependent visa solely depends on MA's visa validity and period.

The total package is surely above minimum wage and i will explain.
As a full time nanny (7-days a week), maxiumum you can work is 8hrs/day and with minumum wage of 10£/hr gives you 2400£/month before tax and 1900£ after taxes. Accomodation & all utilities averagely 900£, feeding,Wifi Internet/mobile and other household expenses is averagely 600£. Hence if i pay extra 400£, i am matching the minimum wage already. Mind you, i didn't include cost of transportation, etc that would be saved when working a full time nanny.
Fact that you're proudly analyzing this is even more shameful. I hope you heed to earlier advice and abort mission before you lose those kids to the government and still be persecuted for modern day slavery. This is NOT Nigeria where 'majority of us' enjoy taking advantage of the seemingly less privileged in the name of 'house maid/nanny'.

Please do better with conscience 😩

when you're ready just get your CV ready with all the credentials you have and start applying, na recruiters go dey rush you. But I always advise people to start with full-time and perm roles as they will train you on the job to boost your confidence which will help you a lot when you start contract jobs. The expectations of those contract jobs are way higher but for perm roles, employers are patient enough for some months for you to get settled in. That's how my friend started with a perm role and just even after two months, he started contracting. Like I said earlier, calm down. But I can get some more info and share it later.
Your advice is duly noted. Thanks so much!

Calm down, you're already good to go. Finish your studies well but if it's just a few months you have left you can start applying for jobs right away. Look at jobs description carefully and make sure your CV covers the basic requirements and experience for the jobs. Since you're still studying you are still limited by the 20hrs per week rule so getting a full-time role whether contract or perm may be tricky but you can try as there are contract roles that may allow you to work part-time which will be great for your experience going forward.
Yea I wasn't going to start applying until I'm about to round up my dissertation make "Unfortunately" emails no come demoralize me but I just wanted to find out more about the contract way with daily rates. Would prefer that over full time roles for now but I'd like to hear from people who have done both before I make I decision. Thanks so much.

Please can I be too forward and shoot you a mail? I also have experience from naija and have CAMS certification. I don't know if you can help me speak to your friend. I just need guidance from someone who's been on that contract journey.

I am looking at going the contract way rather than full time and would appreciate pointers from someone who's been there and done it. I'm still studying though but I wanna start planning for the reality of life after studies and I sincerely don't wanna shortchange myself if I can explore and get something better.

Please epp my life biko, I promise I am not troublesome grin

Yea, a friend of mine an experienced banker from naija got the certification and he's been moving from one contract role to another earning good pay. Recently got a full time offer with Bank of America.

OGs in the house.. please help a brother in making a career decision. I just came into the UK on a student visa. Wifey is the student while I’m the dependent. I was a banker back in Nigeria with 8 years banking experience, but sincerely I don’t want to go back to banking. Please what other career options do I have as a former banker.
Depends on the skill set you have and the kind of jobs you can transfer them to. A bank is a large corporation with various fields. Someone in audit department for instance can decide to move to an audit firm after years in bank while someone like a cashier might find it hard or be limited to transfer whatever skill set they have into another company without probably acquiring additional skills. Still doesn't change the fact that both worked for years in the bank. You're in the best position to make the decision in this case tbvh...

Hiii,

I and my husband came into the UK exactly in December last year via student visa with him as the dependant. He started with Care and told me he was going to work for only 25hours weekly as he didn't want to get absolved in care. This time would also allow him apply for jobs, prepare and attend interviews. The interviews were coming with so many "unfortunately" attached to it. While for some applications we didn't hear back from the recruiter. We were discouraged as we had bills to pay with the limited income but he was so determined not to take more hours.

It was exactly 4 months after that all the sleepless night yielded it's fruitage. He got 3 jobs offers and all with sponsorship. He's in a much better place today with better pay

P.s I am not in anyway berating Care work, I also did care but if you have the skills from Nigeria please don't give up in searching and even if you don't, learn them especially when you know exactly where and what you want to be..
Thank you so much for sharing this!

You honestly have a right to HATE care work if you don't like it and you should never feel bad for not liking it. Your hubby's tenacity got him the job cause the rejections didn't deter him and he exercised his right to refuse to get comfy in the care job.... A personal determination

We always have a choice no matter how hard it is and we're individually responsible for our choices in life. Nothing in your write up berated care job in any way at all so if anyone takes offense, they should take it up with themselves and not your testimonial.

@Amaratripple0 please keep up the good work of reminding some of us not to forget we can snatch that high paying job we came prepared for. Ain't nobody gonna make me doubt myself for a sec! Anybody that wants to aim high should be freely allowed to do so without any guilt. If it's unrealistic, na me get my 'unrealistic' grin

Work with a trusted lawyer who is in 9ja that will do the legwork for you
This would have been a good idea only if the law enforcement treat cases of fraud with small charges. What it would cost him to get them to look at the case would probably double the amount in question.

However, those people Sabi the work if the proceed of crime is huge and they'll make solid cut themselves aside the payment you'll use to facilitate the investigation... Crazy system!

One thing one will quickly find about the UK (other places though) is that often, there's element of ambiguity. I know I jokingly said recently along the line ... how do you 3xpect lawyers to make £ when it's time for ILR ...

We have established on this thread that ESFA FE fundings are not Public Funds.
However, these (IT) bootcamps falls under the DfE skills for life program. Unfortunately, there's no clarity if the skills for life fall under ESFA.
We've said, one should try and use the duckling rule and thread cautiously. Someone added (I think ma'am Ticha or Mamatukwas) along the line that if you have to apply for it specially, it might most likely be PF.
With that said though, it would appear the bootcamps might be safe. PS: don't take my words for it though. Kindly also note the subtle caveat ... Free - Funded by the Govt if you are applying as yourself and not through an employer scheme!!!
Read more from the NRPF site and skills for life site. This Wolverhampton Council site might assist. (I kinda like the way they collate NRPF)
win.wolverhampton.gov.uk/kb5/wolverhampton/directory/adult.page?adultchannel=1_7_3
Kindly read collation of previous posting
I don't even think it's a UK thingy alone. I think most laws are usually layered with ambiguity to either stir confusion or allow various interpretation reveal the loop holes for them so that additional rules in form of clarity can be issued. I remember back then when CBN releases new circular that's ambiguous with heavy penalty for violation attached, we used to spend sessions and meetings trying to interpret the new rule to the best of our understanding while protecting the bank is utmost priority.

Sometimes sha, the rules are so ambiguous that we'd need to write back to the regulators to seek further clarification and the sad part is their response window could get us in trouble if any transaction the law was supposed to address takes place.

I think regulations are naturally designed with a sprinkle of confusion... Probably that's why really intelligent lawyers cash out big from the loop holes of laws thanks to ambiguity.

Good day everyone, please my passport names arrangements is different from those in my supporting documents i.e Statement of Results and Transcripts. For example, my Passport the name is (Gbenga Daniels Henry) but in my supporting documents it so (Gbenga Henry Daniels). Would there be issues when applying for visa?
Is your surname constant in all documents? If the inconsistency is only in arrangement of first and other name, it might not be a major issue (I am not 100% sure about embassy though but I doubt it'll have a major impact on your application since your passport as well as other supporting documents are arranged correctly.

I know using other names interchangeably isn't as much issue as your surname being switched with your name (then that becomes a complete change of identity). The most important things that make up your identity is surname, (first and/or second name, date of birth and your fingerprint

Okay, let's break it down: You're saying money laundering is reintroducing illegally-obtained money into the system as clean, right?

So the facts are:1. There's a prohibition against running a business or being self employed - The person is saying they want to circumvent that.
2. They want to circumvent by rerouting the money so it doesn't seem that they are working - which would constitute tax evasion and is definitely a crime because they won't make a tax declaration as legally required.

Do you agree both of those actions taken together satisfy your stipulation that there must be a crime?

Okay, so 3. They want to then reintroduce the money into the UK financial system so they can spend it as usual, right? So, presumably, they'll use exchangers to make it seem as if the money is a gift or from their savings or from a business owned outside the UK, right?

So what do you call that process, pray tell?

And I'm curious - 'globally certified'? Do you have a CAMS or ICA certification? If you do, you'll know that the amount in question is irrelevant to the nature of the actions -all it'll do is play a part in the decision of whether to prosecute.
YES I have CAMS and the context of your definition of illegal funds doesn't apply to this (not even about the amount at this point) but I'm done arguing with you cause you wanna be right so bad (which I'm not even arguing with you over ) but simply pointing out your choice of word for the offense is simply INCORRECT. I rest my case at this juncture

AML (Money laundering) and TFC (Terrorist Financing) have one major difference and it's the SOURCE of funds. When they say source of funds is illegal, it simply means money was gotten from an illegal source or shady business deal or dirty money like drug money NOT wages paid legally for a job done.

Okay. In your opinion, re-routing money to disguise its origin in order to evade prohibitions against operating a business is what?

To be clear - there's a reason why I put 'launder' in quotes originally. If you get caught it's the tax charges that they'll focus on. That doesn't change the nature of the activity though.

My last word on this is that people should feel free to take any approach they like depending on their risk tolerance.
It's not "My opinion" but rather the true meaning of the word launder. The source of the money being "illegal/illicit" is the main reason why it needs to be cleansed and reintroduced into the system like legit money. It's what I did for years and even globally certified in so calling people's legit sweat laundering just cause they tried to circumvent a particular rule is blowing it out of proportion.

Money laundering is a big offense and no be kwe kwe freelance job money Dem dey talk about. He didn't do drugs or rob people of their sweat like hushpuppy... He worked for it...

There's a HUGE difference!
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Ayowolebami(f): 3:48am On Sep 30, 2022
justwise:
No you need to understand this case from the beginning. Go back to read it because your analogy here is off point as it got nothing to do with freelancing
Technically, you both are correct and there's more than one perspective to the rule. Self employment from the angle of tax payment only addresses you offering the service anywhere and receiving the payment for service rendered in your UK account.

Also, being self employed while on student visa is NOT only because of tax the government prevents full time students from full time employment but also, so that their time is well invested in their studies and get rid of any distractions. There's a reason part time program isn't given Tier 4 visa.

Allowing self employment would enable distraction from studies for full time students and that would still violate the study visa rules eventually.

So las las, no be only cause of money/tax Dem no gree allow full time students work full time. Make everybody do whatever makes Dem sleep at night as regards to visa terms.

Not permitted. Freelancing is classed as self-employment and self-employment is strictly prohibited while on student visa - https://www.gov.uk/student-visa .

As to whether they can link it to you - don't you intend to receive the money into your account? Be aware that if you intend to 'launder' the money - that's entering into tax evasion territory. Enough said.
Launder kehhuhhuh That's quite a strong word to use o haba!

Tax evasion is a criminal offense no doubt but this his case is nowhere near money laundering please.

By notes, they mean "physical cash at hand you stored under your pillow at home grin" and not your money saved with a financial institution.

While cash is still allowed in the UK, polymer notes would be the cash acceptable for the denominations affected while your savings in the bank is NOT cash at hand.

Hence, even if you paid in the said paper notes as at the time you were depositing, the bank would issue you the legal tender (polymer notes) that's now acceptable in the UK when you're ready to take out your money.

The beauty of this story you always hear the begining but sometime miss the ending or the middle part ....

My sisterinlaw son started the 30 hours even though her husband was earning over 100k making them not eligible. They are British now living in Sheffield... few months down the line they heard from HRMC which told them based on their earning they are only allowed the 15hours so she had to stop immediately. However depending on when you heard her story .

At the beginning she would have told you she was able to claim because the school allowed it, months later she would have told you a different story of how she had to stop. In another version it could have been how the 15hours became a problem, refund or even visa problem. .....

2 family friends mentioned same to me when they moved to Manchester. At 3, their kids were allowed full 30hours free. She sent them emails back and forth showing BRP and all, they insisted theirs is 30hrs. I will keep all email correspondence for evidence sake!
Exactly why I had to send mails to both the school and Manchester city council. Luckily I met an older lady at the admin's office the day I visited the school after my mail and she said it was the normal practice for most schools under Manchester city council. She told me she's worked in oldam and it was 15hrs only.

Even my friend who's daughter is a citizen and earns way above those who can access that extra 15hrs benefit could not understand my worry and the 15hrs for nursery because most schools around them practice full time and it's free. No one has asked her either for out of pocket payment and she and her hubby earn way above the income of people who can access the benefit.

That is clearly incorrect .... the government website should be your guide. Later when you have issues the person would told you 30 hours is not public funds won't be there to help you . The Home office will reply you that all rules are clearly listed on .gov. ... all 30 hours is linked to NI, so home office can see if anyone get 30 hours childcare if they want to check

When in doubt, always check gov website ...it is the ultimate source of truth for their rules. It clearly states who is eligible for 30 hours and those on visa do not qualify .

https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare
Ok who isn't correct at this point? School says their fund isn't public funds, Manchester city council says they do not contribute to the school funds outside the universal 15hrs per week.

UK govt website still redirects to city council to be able to make arrangements to access more than 15hrs and same city council says the subsidy is not from the government's pocket and if school says the extra 15hrs is free for all, then it is.

Unless I'm expected to contact UK government website directly to ask questions and still be redirected to my city council.

We have not been asked for NI or anything related to our immigration status or document so far and the school has said they do not set up any out of pocket payment structure for parents as the additional 15hrs is subsidized by the school.

you made a right choice by clarifying 30 hours and ensuring you only use 15 hours .. see this post. 30 hours would be classified as public funds in England
I clarified from both the city council and school and both insist the subsidy from school is not from the government. I'm going to go ahead at this point and keep both responses in my archive for future reference.

I need to access more than 15hrs and I'm willing to pay but neither school nor council is charging me for the extra 15hrs and school insists the subsidy is NOT public funds.

Adding extra heartache of joining waiting list and looking for placement in another school to all the stress of even getting a school and all is no longer for me at this point. Mio Le waku

This will only happen if the school is getting money somewhere else apart from the government, which I sincerely doubt. So, try to confirm very well and get it in writing that it is school that is subsidizinf, not the government.
