Your best bet is to apply online via the gov website, this will tell you whether you qualify or not and it will ask all the pertinent questions. The one thing you must know is that there's no FREE in this country if you're not genuinely entitled to it because they will find out, even if it takes 20 years and they will claim that money back from you so don't see free train and jump on it, unless it is for you.
Exactly why I'm trying my best to torchlight the answer from any and every angle. Nursery here is at the school's discretion. Manchester city council does not get involved in nursery admission for schools so we applied to all 3 schools close to the house. You go through council from reception class.

I don't even want their free offer that can come back to hound me, I just want to be able to pay for the days she'd need to stay back in school longer than 12pm and have peace of mind.

I'm going so sit on the phone all day today till I get a solution.

There is primary school and there is private nursery for 3 to 4 years.... most of the primary schools now are structured for the 30 hours so won't understand the 15 hours you are talking about . Also primary school won't typically allow you to pay extra for longer days, but nursery would .... although they should understand because even British people , it is not all that qualify for 30 hours . If any of the spouse is earning over 100k then they don't qualify as well

So you need to use private nursery and not primary school nursery so that you don't go against your visa restriction. ....
I just briefly googled private nursery near me and the first 6-10 places that popped up are far from us. We'd be walking a minimum of an hour to the closest when we have 3 different schools close to the house. cry

Looks like I'm going to spend the entire day on phone calling the council today to see if they have any other solution at this point cause walking an hour 20mins to school for a 3yr old is impossible cry cry

Thank you so much.

I’m more curious as to why a home visit is necessary for nursery admissions where you are. Is that the norm in England? Seems strange.
Yes it's that particular school's practice cause my friend's daughter who has British passport was also visited at home as the final stage of the admission and she had been selected way before we came in while we were on waiting list until last Friday school called us.

I discovered from my research that the school has the authority to admit children for nursery only and they use their own style for admission process not council style. Even their new intakes don't resume till end of the month while the entire school resumed already.

Admission from reception, however, must go through the council but I doubt they do home visit for that one.

I am in same situation in Salford. I am calling the council directly tomorrow. So you might want to call Manchester council too. I will ask them for an email/letter to that effect sef, so one can use in the future.
I've been calling Manchester city council for hours daily since she was offered the admission and they gave her school cardigan for free already, Dem no dey pick. I sent a mail to the school before I set out this morning but there was no response till I left the house and the admin woman confirmed the lady that attends to mails was running late and advise I forward to another email but sadly it bounced back cause it addy was incorrect and I didn't realize till I got home.

Luckily for me Sha, I dug out the correct name that was misspelled and re-forwarded the mail this evening so fingers crossed I get the response from the more senior person cause I discovered she/he is assistant principal.

I just need a mail trail for future reference too.

If you have no recourse to public funds, then you can't claim 30 hours in England. You will likely not be able to get the code required as they will check your immigration deatils when you apply. 15hrs os however for everybody.

Check this link for more details.
https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare
Their school is saying the 30hrs is FREE for nursery as against 15hrs and not asking me for a dime/code but anyone with code will provide to the school and school will claim back their money from council as the subsidy is from the school's pocket.

This subsidy gangan is what I'm trying to clarify cause my understanding is that 2-4yrs in nursery is 15hrs free for everyone so I'm asking if anyone knows anything about the said subsidy. The woman who attended to me said she once worked in Oldham and it's 15hrs for nursery there but most schools in Manchester is 30hrs FREE even for nursery.

Good evening house, please who is familiar with nursery schools in Manchester and how they operate?

Our daughter is resuming nursery by end of the month but we were told the school operates free 30hrs for even nursery and not from reception.

The school reps visited our apartment on Tuesday as part of their admission process and I asked them about requirement to pay for additional hours as we'll be unavailable to pick her up by 12pm from November which I expected to be the norm but the school said their school is 30hrs FREE.

I visited the school today again to reconfirm the reps that came to our place understood my questions and the person that attended to me insisted their school is subsidized for children and it's not public funds. She however said the school claims their money back from council for citizens on benefit (entitled to public funds) through their code with the council.

I'd like to know if anyone here is familiar with this "almighty subsidy" cause I laid out my cards to the school as regards to our immigration status and how we have no recourse to public funds make I no go enjoy wetin fit hook me for neck in the near future.

Is there anyone here familiar with this or has heard anything about it before? Biko epp me before I get comfortable eating poison.

Good evening ancestors, please I'd like to ask if anyone here has ever tried using any of the virtual banking platform to convert money from USD Dom account in naija to Pounds?

For instance converting dollars to pounds directly from a USD account domiciled in Nigeria (not minding the cross conversion rate).

I'd like to know other viable options to access one's funds asides taking out cash from the account in naija or having debit card to withdraw from the account outside the country.

Ralphlauren is correct.
What resets the 5 year route is when you switch visa categories (e.g. Tier 2 to Tier 4), not employers within the same visa category.
Secondly, an employer who wants you doesn't care what your current visa status is - they can employ you from outside the UK with no resident visa in the first place, so why not if you are already in-country with a visa.

Lastly, in this country, it is accepted for career paths to vary widely, a period of doing what you have to do to make ends meet while searching for something better is OK. Don't overthink that aspect.

Regarding the italicised, I thought you said you were taking certifications and all that in your [non-care related] field? Where that's the case, dont worry and be not afraid, it may surprise you but a lot of people in HR can actually read and draw relevant information from a resume and where your details fit their JDs, that could be you sorted.
I would like to ask you a question please oga HR, does switching from main applicant on a Tier 2 visa to dependent reset the journey to ILR?

Take for instance, the husband is the main applicant but before the 5yrs journey, something happens after 3yrs and he has to switch to being dependent of his spouse who is on tier 2 sponsorship also, will the years reset or he can just spend the 2yrs on being a dependent of tier 2 to complete the 5yrs ?

Yes if you enter with the right qualification, certification and experience. I know people in my field who entered on dependent visa and landed fantastic jobs in Risk/Compliance/AML in less than 2 months. Really hoping to get Lucky by the time I'm done with my program too. Some skill sets are transferable and the same across board.

Hi everyone. Thank you for sharing valuable experiences so far.
I'm due to arrive the UK next month, however I saw a nice apartment on Openrent that I'm interested in. Is there anyway I can lock that apartment even before I arrive?
Tips would be appreciated
Depends on the conditions the house owner gives you and if you're willing to adhere. If the available date to move in is immediately, landlord might give you condition of holding property for only a certain number of days before your rent will begin to read.

Landlord might also ask for up to 6 months rent pay in advance cause you're coming from abroad with no rent-ref or credit check to ascertain you have a good history.

However, the most important part is getting someone to help you view the property and assure you what you see online is exactly what you're getting so this is as important as payment.

You might want to consider paying for the property and your rent starts reading before you arrive Sha if it'll lock down the property for you as you don't have any assurance you'll get one as soon as you get it. Accommodation stress is an advanced level of stress on its own.

If you have an address in Manchester already, search for schools close to your house and mail them to know if they have space for September. Some schools send you the application forms via email and you can submit it when you land.
My daughter is 3 also and her school said we can pay £15 per day for the extra 3hrs
I don't have address yet as I am still house hunting and it's not been an easy task so I haven't been able to look up any school just yet. Thank you so much for this info but was wondering if she can switch schools by January or she'd have to wait till next year September.

Saw this article and my heart broke for the mum who said she has zero clue. Plus see all the Nigerian names in it! I can’t imagine the parents heart break. You move here for a better life & your child ends up with a life sentence. Very sad.
This was such an heartbreaking read and the Nigerian names towards the end of the article though...hmmmmm... I might be wrong ooooo but there's no how the mothers of these teenage boys who are that violent and rap with atrocities they committed or are aware of like murder wouldn't have picked a trace or two if they paid closer attention. Especially in an environment that's known for gang violence but it well. May God comfort their parents.

On an unrelated topic, please I need advice on how to go about sorting school for my 3yr old that's almost 4. She'll be 4 in October and I was wondering if it'll be possible to get a nursery that will admit her in January even though we're due to get in by September.

Trying to budget my pocket and know if I'm stuck with free 3hrs only or we can get a possible solution to her getting more hours from January after she clocks 4 as an ember baby.

I'll appreciate as much suggestions as possible from moms with experience here to help me explore all possible options.

Airline might not allow you board without a valid visa. Depends on the people that'll check you in while boarding but you sincerely don't want to risk them refusing you to board cause in all honesty, your visa isn't valid for the date you'll be boarding.

What's with the posturing going on between oldies and newbies? Statements made by oldies seem to be rubbing the newbies raw and vice versa.
Can we like go back to times when advice was given in a cordial manner w/o making it seem like 'I know better'? (That's definitely bound to rub off folks in the wrong way). On the other side of the coin, can advice be accepted w/o being spit on or calling out unnecessarily? Before you take anything on this forum as law, take time to make your research, discuss with a good number of people on & off this forum, weigh it, and come to a decision that you can own as yours w/o pointing fingers.
All these "tongue-in-cheek" remarks from both parties just get as e be
God bless you for this! The snide comments and subtle shades from adults in the name of "oldies" and "newbies" is disappointing. Mutual respect used to be one vital attribute I noticed on this particular thread until recent times.

If an advice given doesn't sit with anyone or you deem it as empty or valueless, please scroll pass and ignore completely and if you perceive anyone doing too much or acting like they know it all, please ignore completely.

Thank Goodness we have one or two people with good sense of humor that have been diluting some subtle shades with their light jokes. People here just share advise from their own wealth of knowledge and can only speak from what they know or experienced but if anyone feels what they're offering is not enough, please go on the internet and do your detailed research by YOURSELF.

Last I checked, this is not UK gov site.

Apologies in advance to anyone that might feel offended by this, this response is just a generic reaction to the latest pattern of subtle disrespect that's about to be the order of the day. Would hate for anyone to misconstrue!

I don't think this should really be a big deal as the physical copy of your passport would be submitted for vignette. It might be impossible to correct it during bio because it's not an attachment. Submitted info filled on visa form can't be altered but if you don't have the mind to leave the error, just cancel jeje for peace of mind.

Would take too long to give a breakdown of this particular situation but this should give a good overview. It's focused on employment screening but the same principles apply across board.
I just read that "article" and it doesn't in any way speak to data privacy or violation of data privacy of anyone. It only emphasize on precautionary measures for employers who might use old post of applicants as a tool to shortlist them and put them at a disadvantage.

I was talking about data privacy and how whatever you post on your SM feeds can be accessed without breaking any law of data privacy.

The instance of internet search on a "person of interest" by an investigator is in no way related to this mere article on gimmicks of an employer to shortlist candidates.

I think this sounds more logical.

But in the event that I am unable to contact my last service providers (since I am no longer in employment with them), can the current branch head just draft a letter stating that I worked in the branch and sign, will it be verified by the ukvi?

I await your response!!
On what letter head will the branch head put that letter cause it sure as hell can’t be on the bank’s own. On a blank sheet?

You don’t want to come off as suspicious please simply walk into any of the previous providers office and respectfully request for reference letter covering the period you were an outsourced staff from them.

You’ll get the reference

Yes oo bro. This is the copy of their response "
Regarding your bank statement, your last transaction date is 2nd June. Since closing balance is not confirmed at the top of your bank statement, UKVI officer may take 2nd June as a closing date. In this case, your period the funds have been held for will be less than 28 days. In order to make it easier for UKVI to check your evidence, please transfer a small amount of money into your account and obtain an up to date statement where last transaction date will be the same as the date of the statement. Please ensure that it covers at least 28 days or more.
The email states that your statement does not have a closing balance clearly stated on your statement. That might be an issue cause ordinarily, a statement should have an opening and closing balance clearly stated.

Is your statement mobile app generated one or you walked into the branch to request for a stamped statement? I’d advise you request your statement from your branch. That way, it has the required details and crystal clear for an ECO to easily understand.

My bank statement shows opening balance on the 5th May (final deposit was 4th May) , so I printed from 5th May to 6th June.

Last transaction was 2nd June.

Please does ukvi count back from last transaction date (2nd June) or they use the period of the statement (5th May to 6th June)

School said ukvi will count back from 2nd June and it will not be 28 days. I'm confused because I have already applied for the visa
Are you sure that’s what your school meant exactly or you misunderstood them? Your statement counts from start date till end date it was generated regardless of the most recent/ oldest transaction date.

Sad part is that I cannot lay my hands on any employment letter from any of the banks I worked with. Can I go to the last branch i worked in to request a reference letter and submit with my visa application? Almost everybody knows me there.
Kindly approach any of your providers or the most recent one that deployed you to your last place of employment as the bank is not your direct employer and HR will never reference you because your file does not sit with bank directly.

Your direct employer is your provider, you were only seconded to the bank.

That date doesn’t capture you had the funds in your account for 28days prior to application. If you haven’t submitted, please reprint from 28 days before the date you paid for visa application.

However, printing over a month is completely your choice but simply overdoing it if you ask me cause the instruction clearly says minimum of 28days and that can be used to apply within 31 days of printing.

I didn't ask because its none of my business

But here .... why would I put my minor child as next of kin when my hubby is there . That very odd to me but to give you some comfort ,your husband is not alone in this. Time here will change that mindset ... but I think u should talk to him
I think this stems from trust issues Sha but I'm used to seeing women use their kids on financial documents while the husbands use their spouse. Sadly, what majority don't realize is that God forbid anything goes wrong or there's benefit to be given to one's next of kin, those who use minor end up leaving their finances in the hands of any greedy lion around such kid(s) who is/are minor.
