semid4lyfe:Amosun attacked! March 10, 2011 Facebook Twitter RSS Email Print Increase Decrease Senator Ibikunle AmosunThe Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] governorship candidate in Ogun State Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his campaign team were said to have been attacked by suspected Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] supporters at Owode road Sabo Ilaro. The governorship candidate was on a campaign tour of Yewa South Local Government area of the state, the home town of General Tunji Olurin the pdp governorship candidate. Meanwhile, Senator Amosun has promised equitable distribution of economic development projects to all parts of the state, insisting that it would remain a cardinal principle of his administration if elected into office in the April polls. He promised to make use of the available national resources to turn around the economic fortunes of the state. WHAT ABOUT PDP SUPPORTERS? |
My concern is that the PDP govt has not dim it fit to arrest anyone perpetuating crises in Jos, Bauchi, Abuja Bombings, Kidnapping in the SE and Vandalisation in the creeks and they are threatning to use the full weight of the law against opposition who has been alleged to destroy campaign office that I am sure does not have economic benefit for the nation at Large. What kind of leaders do we have in this nation? Always have misplaced priority. These guys should just wake up and know that Nigerians are wiser now. The whole nation is tired of misrule in the for the past 12 years. Had the govt have not been biased against CPC campaign by giving them appropriate security details, the Gombe vandalisation who have been prevented, but who knows maybe it is even PDP that is causing the whole show to hang it on CPC. When Killings were going on in Ibadan by Akala, rather than stop the violence this same Jonathan used chartered flight to transport a Murder suspect from prison to Abuja for his primaries. GEJ SHAME ON YOU. YOU HAVE LOST IT. |
rainbowman:@ RAINBOW. You are very wrong on this issue. I can say confidently that over 75% of the content of the CPC manifestos are what Tunde Bakare has been preaching about, screaming about since the 1990s during the military rule. He was moving from several university talking about evolving and emergence of a great nation. He used several models in the Life of Joseph to teach these things. His NGO in California, International centre for reconstruction and development has been used as a platform to teach these things. He has openly criticised the MDGs goal of the United Nations based on ideology that is not favourable to Africa nations. These are what the man stand for. People who do not know him think he is just a pastor preaching bible. They forgot that he was first a lawyer b4 he became pastor. He has been working long enough to understand governance and networking with dynamic Pastors like Sam Adeyemi, Tony Rapu and Pastor Nims, the MPs of the queen of England Monarch and sevral others. So wake up and stop beer parlour gist. |
@ Kobo, I always think you argue with facts and not hearsay. Remi was a housewife and u were never aware of all her NGO involvement in Lagos with sevral people like Funmi Iyanda, Pastor Itua, Tony Rapu and co? Anyway, such cannot be seen from Chicago. I just hate sounding this way cos you will always term it as endorsement and seeing Tinubu as hero but whatever you think, a man's achievement will also speak for him. 10mins into Lagos Debate, I knew Fashola will flaw others because if you do not appreciate what has been working, then, it is clear you do not have clue about leadership and all of the opposition candidates believed that Lagos state has enough money to tackle all of her challenges except fashola. So should I take such people serious with that ill-informed mentality when simple data they dont know? And all my comparisons earlier are facts glaring and not political gist. They are in public domain. |
Kobojunkie:Forget FOI bill now. Fashola said his government published all those records for all to see. That was part of his 2007 manifesto and he said it existed so I wonder why Dosumu could not ask him the specific place to get those information cos people will be interested in knowing. And you are defending Dosumu's lie? So funny, even you? You dont know how they score character? Once you lied and u are caught, nothing you say is credible again. See, I am not interested in winning arguments, go to the streets of Lagos, both illiterates and intellectuals, everyone knows Tinubu and ACN excesses but that still remains peoples church because opposition have not offered any superior means of getting things done. And Tinubu is no longer a Governor, no more immunity clause, and Ribadu has openly acclaimed b4 our honourable senates that Tinubu's corruption is of international dimension and they will get him as soon as he through with his terms as governor. So, what is happening now? How are oppositions using this information to upstage the guy and free lagos from his grips? Why did Afikuyomi, and the rest settled scores with him and settle for commissioner's post? DONT YOU THINK THESE PEOPLE ALSO ARE NOT REALLY ABOUT US? You are very intelligent and I know u can read between the lines if you will |
Well in all, I once lived in Lagos for close to 10yrs until January 2011. I have stayed in both mainland and Island. I work in both mainland and Island. It just baffled me that with the claim of Lagos having high intellectuals and informed people, a man not born into wealth could still pocket all the political machinery of a state from councillorship to Governorship and what people can only say is that the man is Lording it over them. Is that not insulting to our intelligence? So what are they doing to break free from such men. The truth is that those guys are LAZY. They are not interested in power for SERVICE but for GAINS that is why after every court process, fight and rancour, they will settle them and that will be the last you will hear. The next time you will hear their voice is when they hope to get party ticket next time and Tinubu imposes another person. |
Kobojunkie:When Dosumu raised this question at the debate, I was very excited that at least someone is reasonable now that can nail Fashola and Tinubu. Fashola gave funny response that I do not really understand but Alas Dosumu could not articulate that corruption charge in a way for people to see. He was lying and laughing. Audience where I was that day said if Dosumu could lie on on application for jobs, how am I sure he is not lying about the sum of the contract? I remembered fashola stated all Lagos state contracts and prices are open for all to verify on a particular website. I was expecting a follow up question on the web address cos I do not believe him but alas, the opposition did not strike anyone of us as a serious people. That is our greatest challenge. |
Kobojunkie:It pains me that you can still not get my heart in this discussion. How can Tinubu be my Democracy GOD? You are arguing from subjective point. They took them to court and did not win? Stop arguing based on newspaper facts. Many of them are sponsored news. The ACN Chairman Bisi Akande had openly defended their stands that it is not in their party constitutions that a primary is a must. I heard him live on TV and gave their reasons. I was taken aback when I first heard that comment and he said anyone that is not happy could as well leave the party. He stated clearly that the party has rules that they work by and most people screaming her rogues. Since the day I heard that, I disrespect anyone shouting imposition on ACN. Leave the party immediately you are treated unfairly and start another one with superior ideas. Only that way can democracy grows. |
Kobojunkie:Call it sentiments and superman stories, but they facts that makes the man LORD it over them. The challenge at hand now is that who will deliver Lagos from Tinubu? Who will stop this 50Billion naira construction of 50km roads (if that is true)? The imposition of candidates etc are challenges facing Lagos. Let the intelligent guys do something about it and offer superior arguments and save the state of corruption. Not joining the flow and after 3yrs, they will raise up for election and other candidates will be imposed on them and they will cry foul. Dont you think they are LAZY guys. That is why I always thumbs up for JIMI AGBAJE. Many people agreed in 2007 that he had a superior manifesto but they will rather do nothing and wait till the day TINUBU will endorse them. Lazy clowns. |
Kobojunkie:Like I said, you are 100% correct about this and you need not refer me to mediocre mind to continue this with. The truth is that there is no where in the world or in history where freedom is willingly handed down to the oppressed. It is usually demanded for. It takes effort. People are not really doing enough hence, Tinubu dominance. Do no reinvent the wheel. Let opposition arise and stop being lazy else I will conclude they are also seeking power for gains and when the gains are assured the follow the order and keep quite. |
Kobojunkie:So what are those people doing about it? Just keep quite and allow it to go? Then why blame it on Tinubu? Simply take the party to court and if there is no provision in the party to do that pull out to another and if there if no another, gather people of like minds start one and give Tinubu a run for his efforts. But you know what, they too do not like to build anything? They want to ride under the popularity of what someone has done? Do you know ACN was a product of rebel? When the Afenifere elders were using Yoruba culture and seniority to run the party after Bola Ige's death, Tinubu pulled out and labour to do form the ACN today. So where are the Afeniferes todays? Let these guys do likewise. Tinubu also will soon become history. That is the beauty of democracy. CREDIBLE OPPOSITION |
@ Kobojunkie, I do not want to be forced to drag this issue further with you really. I will clearly state my thought in a most simplistic way to avoid ambiguity, 1. I agree there are many qualified candidates but they have refused to show up. The ones perceived to be qualified as adjudged by Pat Utomi endorsement did not strike us as someone who really knows his left from right. The others have refused to show up, hence Tinubu Dominance. 2. I agree with you 100% that Government is not meant for personal gains but for the welfare of the people but please point to me a society today where Govt has always being 100% for the welfare of the people without some interests being protected. That is was why I refer to Tinubu having a capitalist mentality. 3. Tinubu's and Bush. Please note that the 2 families are in different societies with different challenges. When we were groaning under the military dictators like IBB, Abachas etc, I remembered this same Tinubu contributed immensely via NADECO, spending personal resources, running from one place to the other alongside others fighting oppressions. When the Bola Ige died and Afenifere could not hold the region together again, it took his efforts to for another progressive party given the region a Voice against the PDP govt. When additional 22 LCDAs were created in Lagos in accordance to the laws of Lagos state, it took his doggedness to resist being bullied by OBJ administration and insisted on fighting. I know all those achievements are nothing again. Usually such are not considered as anything again because our challenges are different nowadays. The truth is when human beings have offered themselves for service and have any notable achievement, they tend to transfer that dynasty to their lineage. There are always barrier breaker in a lineage and others may not necessarily labour like their fathers did b4 they enjoyed. But that does not make it a fathers property. It only made it easy for them. It is a fact of life. It is now left for us to Vote their families if they are credible or reject them if they are not. Why will they imposed candidates on people and they will sit tight and do nothing about it? (that is tinubu and bush comparison) . 4. Party primaries is not necessarily compulsory if we really have credible leadership structure in a party. There is a constitution that a party runs by. It amazes me that no candidates has ever taken ACN to court for trying to impose candidates on them. Some parties in America use primaries to give level playing ground to all members of the party to vile for political office but in UK, parties like Labour and Conservatives do not organise primaries. You will bear witness with me that these two nations have good governance irrespective of the ways of selecting their leaders in their party structure. I gave example of Ibadan as my personal opinion of what I did not like but I have not seen other players in ACN taking the leadership to court. After all, Mohammed Abacha took CPC leadership to court when the leadership tried to go against the primaries election and he won. The leadership complained that he (Abacha) induced delegates with money to have their votes but probably the party constitutions says otherwise. My gross is if a candidate is imposed on me, is either I go to court if there is provision or pull out and pursue my interest in a better place where i feel there is fair play. MKO's son in Abeokuta pulled out from ACN to CPC when OSOBA insisted that the senatorial ticket must go to his son and they wont do primaries. I think the ACN constitutions allows the selection. So no fuss. I am not an advocate for Tinubu, far be it from me that I am sentimental about him like you insinuated in your post but it is always good to acknowledged people's effort in the past as well. MY TAKE IS LET CREDIBLE OPPOSITION ARISE. THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF DEMOCRACY. NOT AN OPPOSITION THAT WILL GO TO SLEEP AFTER APRIL AND COME BACK 3YRS LATER TALKING ABOUT IMPOSITION OF CANDIDATES. I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO PICK UR POSTS ON SUBMISSION ABOUT TINUBU HERE AND THERE BUT THEY ABOUND ON THIS THREAD. |
@ Kobo and ALL, the tantrum thrown at Tinubu is uncalled for really. I blamed the entire Lagos populace who could not say no to imposition of candidates. You guys complained that Tinubu imposed candidates and the guys who were treated unfairly do not have enough political will and strength to say no and pull out to pursue their interests if they really have one. After all, Jimi Agbaje in 2007, when bullied ,left the party and ran under another platform and we all witnessed these same greedy politicians rather pitched their tents with Tinubu instead of rejecting the imposition of Fashola by the then Tinubu administration. I agreed with you that there are highly qualified people in Lagos just like Pa J.K. Randle, a chattered accountant of high repute (former ICAN president running on the platform of PAT UTOMI) who could not articulate his plans to the most informed electorates in the nation. Are those the qualified candidates? People would naturally have assumed oppositions in Lagos will present highly intelligent candidates who can challenge Fashola and Tinubu by extension in an open debate but alas, I was disappointed that we cannot even prove Tinubu wrong with all his boasts. The like of Agbaje, Pedro and some few others could have made some political assumptions that to race against Fashola now will be an exercise in futility, hence their silence. Having said these, democracy thrives better when there is a credible opposition. An opposition that will see clearly the loophole of the present govt, acknowledge what the present govt has been doing and proffer superior arguments of a better way of achieving the same. That is when democracy can thrive better. DEMOCRACY IS NEVER A PERFECT SYSTEM. The call should be for credible oppositions to arise. Human beings by nature are selfish. Tinubu is a capitalist and in the most civilized envt, the capitalist also think about their interest. Bush father, Bush Son. Clinton Husband Clinton Wife, and many others that I cannot remember now. And on party primaries, it is just a foreign idea. There were times in the UK when labour party and conservatives do not hold any primaries. They basically select the party head and the leadership present people they can trust based on each contributions to the party. Do not mistake my submission as support for ACN style, I am just seeing a bigger picture. I have problem with the style especially for LAM ADESINA SON'S IN IBADAN (DAPO) taking a ticket to House of reps; a guy who I know 100% does not understand jack and may likely be making laws for my land. But would you blame them? The others are greedy. They imposed candidates on them and THEY SAT TIGHT BECAUSE THEY ARE REALLY NOT SEEKING POWER FOR SERVICE BUT FOR GAINS AND SINCE TINUBU ALWAYS ASSURES THEM THAT INTEREST OF GAINS, THEY REMAIN QUITE. Until we all take responsibility for change, nothing changes. Tinubu is taking the shine now because of the imposed candidates in the past notably are: 1. BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA 2. ABIKE DABIRI EREWA 3. SENATOR MAMORA--------- MINORITY LEADER 4. AREGBESOLA----------- OSUN GOVERNOR 5. FAYEMI----------------- EKITI GOVERNOR Let us see how far he can thrive with all these new impositions if the players could not take their destinies in their hands and demand for fair representations and the opposition would not offer credible alternatives. THE ONLY REASON FOR EVIL TO PERSIST IS WHEN RIGHTEOUS MEN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. |
Richtalk:Just curious here pls? What is the PDP national ideology? A sentence will do. I am waiting, |
@ Beaf, who are the suspects of previous bombings in the Nation? I think you should know this and how far is the investigation of the Abuja bombings? |
againstGEJ:Then u have no idea of what you are talking about. You are only listening to hear say. How much does it cost to buy a house in UK and how many has David Cameron provided? Your tax is about to go up in April 2011 and several spending cuts have been going on and u think Lagos is also immune from the crises? Ok oo, come to Ifako Ijaye in Lagos area, and there are several houses built by this same govt with less than half the amount you quoted but having said that, it has still not solve the housing problem. So, go to your level. You do not need to buy houses in Lekki, Amuwo, etc to live in Lagos. It is a gradual process |
againstGEJ:That the house of assembly constituted a probe and a competent court stopped the probe, is that funny? Abeg talk something else, And the houses, can you list the areas houses are built by Govt and sold for 50million. Please list them so dat we that live in Lagos can attest to it. |
Alj Uche:I am sure according to Fashola you are literate (you can read and write) but you will be part of the group who cannot comprehend what they read. So that Dosumu beat Fashola by your own standard? Haba, O ga oooooooooooooooooooooooo |
againstGEJ:You started a false thread and yet you come here to say Fashola was insulting. Did you listen to the question the man ask Fashola? What is the relevance of that to good governance. Was the old man seeking audience with him to solve peoples problem or to solve personal problem? Are u not disgusted with the pride of the old man repeatedly mentioning his family name as if that will put food on our table? Why was Dosumu lying about Fashola applying for jobs same time with him and when confronted was just laughing about it as if they are jesters? I am very sure you re mischievous and the likes of you remain the reason why our society remains the it is today? And who will blame you, afterall you are in London and not bordered about what happens here. I am so ashamed of the old man Randle representing SDMP , a party where Pat Utomi belongs. That explains the reason why people have argued that Pat is not a good administrator. I am sure a MBA student in LBS will do better than that old man who could not answer just any question but think he can use seniority cajole the guy. Guys know this the same Yoruba that teaches respect to elders also have the following in their vocabulary: Agbaya, agba osi, agba yeye, agba ti o danu etc, The old man should pick one. Nonsense. The next thing is that they will invite him to King's Palace to apologize. Nonsense |
T9ksy:Whatever good you think is in your tribe, same is reproduced in other tribes. So, if there is anything to say, be objective and fair and do not stand in an exalted position that your tribe is better than others. We are too joined together to fight. If we separate today, I do not have problem with that but not with these present mindsets. What will happen to longstanding inter tribal marriages and the children from such unions with this level of hatred always shown on this forum. Objectivity is my point and not tribal supremacy. Clear? |
macjive01:You guys should try and calm down when discussing in the public and not show your ethnic bigotry in the open. Have u been to Jos, Kano, Kaduna at least I have lived in those places and I know Yorubas who have their families even from the 3rd generation in that area. Nasarawa area in Jos for example is the home of the Ogbomoso People. Have u heard of Onigbinde in Jos, who owns virtually most small and medium scale enterprise such as best farms, oils, supermarket and co, and lots of Yorubas and other ethnic gropus everywhere. I know a lot of Yorubas who are married to Ibos, Deltans and Edos today so why all these tribal fuss. People should think well when you contribute and not allow your bigotry to delude you of the obvious facts that we are too intertwined in this nation to fight. |
@ ALL, it is so disappointing how we make comments here. How many inter tribal datings, marriages, businesses and many other valuable relationships do we have going on in our communities? Don't you have friends from another tribe who you always think of. With all these views, I think Nigerian masses remain the major obstacle to the country's development. Clueless youths with no vision, debating tribal supremacy when some association of elites (of all tribes) are conniving to loot our common wealth. Nonsense. |
Aside from being a Nobel Laureate, how has Wole Soyinka transferred this achievement to the development of a better Nigeria. Holding brief for Ebenezer Babatope, I laugh. No wonder he was ask to head FRSC and yet could not perform. Talk is cheap. Let Wole Soyinka also right an article about the other side of Buhari, his achievement and lets compare. Afterall, Wole Soyinka was happy when IBB overthrew Buhari. Was he not wrong supporting IBB? Did he not accept offer to work with IBB? TALK IS CHEAP. |

What contrary view are you saying and how does that justify unfair treatment by our leaders on a daily basis. Be sure that if katakat burst, you will not be immune from the vices in the society oo. Please come down from your exalted position. |
Ma_J_Blige: Ma_J_Blige:@Mary J Blige, we had this intense arguments some times ago and we handled it maturely. I am however taken aback with most of your comments. Having being among the privileged few, should you not be bordered with the feelings of less privileged? |
kcjazz:I think the problem is dat we love deceit in this country. How does this creation fits into the 7-point agenda of the PDP or did that die with Yaradua. Remember, this is the manifesto of PDP and not Yaradua. How did this creation fits into that 7-point Agenda? |
Pharoh:The truth is that for the sake of arguments, you will always have good reasons to support the creation of those universities and appointments but what makes a good manager is the ability to effectively UTILISE SCARCE ECONOMIC RESOURCES. The journey to hell begins with good intention. Of all the myriads of problems in Nigeria of today, establishment of new universities is the least of our problems. You can give hundred reasons why it is good, but put on the scale of preference, this is just a show of a leader without proper planning. I hear someone say we have youths who our present institutions cannot absorb, so what? Do we have enough qualified students for university education with over 80% failure in SSCE and NECO exam? The truth is that, we Nigerians need to change our mentality. Not every youth must go to university. That might sound rather selfish but the plain truth. You need not be a university graduate to be literate or become somebody in life. Check records in the west. How many of the citizens are graduates. Most jobs being competed for by our graduates here are simple A level school jobs abroad eg, cashiering and tellering in banks, call centre supports staff in telecoms, banks, and many organisations, marketing works in bank is just the same level like a financial advisor in the UK which CeFA qualification is just enough yet our 1st class and 2.1 graduates are running around to pick these jobs here. University education is expensive everywhere and you need not go to one to become somebody in life. Before now, in Nigeria of old, secondary school leavers take supervisory works in coys like costains, nigeria airways, banking, etc and many further their education while on the job to degree level and others professional qualification. Good examples are former MD of First Bank, Bernaid Longe who engineered the current transformation process in first bank today yet did not step across any university, Erastus Akingbola left secondary school to join banking and did ACIB and after many years of banking experience, was admitted directly for MBA in Unilag as matured candidates. Many of the recent graduates cannot match the knowledge and aptitude of these guys when it comes to skills and management. The truth is irrespective of any good reason GEJ has done this, it is purely a misplaced priority and will not yield any meaningful result unless the structural foundation is reconstructed. Or how do we explain an Engineer that is bent on completing a building with structural default in the foundation? Guys wise up and drop this argument. GEJ released funds for those schools to curry election favours. That has been PDP's pattern since 2003. Check records and come back to me if I lied on this. Dont be in a hurry to discard. Check the records first. PDP has nothing to offer this nation and will not LEARN UNLESS THEY LOOSE. PERIOD. |
Pharoh:Well I agree with all your points. I do not expect a President to stand up one day and solve all of Nigeria's problem in one tenure. What is lacking is direction to follow the desired path. How do you explain the sack of Remi Babalola (the minister of state for finance) over his statement about the obvious that NNPC is insolvent? If not for the record of Sanusi, he could have been fired over his statement about the legislators allowances and jumbo pay. How do you explain GEJ approving the sale of houses to the speakers at this critical time. The ministry of education are no strong institution but puppets to do Presidents bid. If you will agree with me, OBJ paraded the best technocrats in office during his tenure but he will not give them the necessary support if his own selfish interest is not guaranteed. People give OBJ applause for bringing GSM as if GSM is an infrastructure? We all pay through our nose to get good service and will applaud him for that. In terms of infrastructural developments, how many can u point as achievement of OBJ's Govt. Why do people applaud Fashola, Infrastructure, Education and Security. I am sure many of us might not see this but the state of primary and secondary education in Lagos has improved. Curriculum are being changed to reflect modern Montessori teachings. We cannot develop a good university first b4 this one. It is misplaced priority. GEJ knows this but would rather embark on White elephant projects for gullible people to see and derail the polity. What happen to the beautifully crafted 7-point agenda of Yaradua. One would think GEJ will continue from there since that is the manifesto of PDP. How has that transit to the establishment of Universities. Ghana has just 3 university but their teacher training colleges, technical schools and polytechics are excellent. Oyinlola did the same thing few months to election by creating several nonsense campuses of osun state universities and where are they today. They ask student to pay 205,000 as tuition per session. Do you think that is what Nigeria needs at this moment. The human capacity development will need cannot be achieved by creating more universities. The Nigerian envt has enough graduates looking for jobs. In fact many graduates from USA and UK (especially) have now increased the competition that God help you to finish from one mushroom university without developing ursef. That is my point. Do not waste our resources further. The creation of this universities is just to appeal to the gullible conscience of those societies that at least house rent will move up, economic activities will increase and that is purely trading. That will never note me. develop our nation. You cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different result. GEJ missed this one and to me he has shown that he does not have the necessary capacity to govern this nation. I am not saying he is not a good person. He is definitely brilliant as a PHD holder but government is too big for this guy. I think we need honest man who will always for the interest of this nation protect our collective wealth |
