Sports › Nigeria Places Much Burden On Okagbare - Olukoju by ayukdaboss(op): 8:44pm On Aug 16, 2014 |
By Olusoji Olukayode Lagos — Former African Discuss and Shot put champion, Adewale Olukoju says Nigeria is depending and expecting too much on Commonwealth gold medalist, Blessing Okagbare for athletics success.
The United States of America-based former athlete told this to Daily Independent when asked to comment on the performance of Nigeria's athletics team to the last Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
He said: "They are relying too much on Blessing. She is the best Nigerian athlete ever produced, but we are expecting too much from her. "
On the ream's Scotland pilgrimage, Olukoju said: "As a team I guess they did the best they could. Very happy for the Long Jump girl. I hope she will be sent to a better environment and be properly developed"
Commenting further on the team, he advised that young and dedicated coaches be helped abroad to places where they can be trained for them to return and develop the athletes to better heights.
His words: ". I don't see any reason for us to be purchasing athletes with no connection to Nigeria. We have athletes with great potentials, but lack the program and environment for them to be developed into world class athletes. It will help to send young dedicated coaches to countries or clubs where they could be trained and learn how to better develop young athletes. Young ex athletes like Ado Maude, Soetan and Omagbemi. http://allafrica.com/stories/201408141102.html?aa_source=acrdn-f0 |

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had released time table for the election to replace former governor Murtala Nyako who was impeached by the State Assembly last month.
Already, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri and son of former chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, Awwal Tukur, have picked the notice of intent form to fly the PDP's flag for the election.
Efforts to speak with Mr. Ribadu or his spokesperson, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, were unsuccessful.
Both men's mobile phones were switched off when PREMIUM TIMES tried to reach them.
Mr. Ribadu is yet to publicly declare for the PDP although he has not refuted any of the reports linking him to the party. http://allafrica.com/stories/201408160058.html?aa_source=slideout |

Health › Second Lagos Nurse Dies Of Ebola, Says FG by ayukdaboss(op): 8:07pm On Aug 14, 2014 |
Onyebuchi Chukwu The Federal Government has confirmed the death of another nurse who had primary contact with the late American- Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, on Thursday. A statement issued by the Minister of Health, Prof.Chukwu Onyebuchi, in Abuja on Thursday, noted that the nurse is the fourth person to have died of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.
He noted that she was one of the health workers that had primary contact with Sawyer at the First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, Lagos. He said, “The fourth death recorded today was a Nigerian nurse who participated in the initial management of the index case. We have now recorded 10 confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease. Out of these, four have died and eight are currently under treatment.”
The minister also apologised for the error in the number of confirmed cases given to journalists at a press briefing organised by the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja earlier in the day.
Chukwu noted, “It is important to note that the number of confirmed cases remains 10 as at today and not 11 as earlier announced this morning. We regret the error which arose from double counting in the process of communicating the additional death from the operational centre in Lagos to the Federal Ministry of Health.” One of the doctors on the team of experts managing confirmed cases at the Ebola Ward of the Mainland hospital, Lagos, had earlier confirmed that the nurse had died due to the exposure she had with Sawyer when he was admitted at the private hospital in Lagos.
The reliable source said, “We lost her in the early hours of today after much effort. She was one of the people that helped him when he was vomiting and stooling. That was when she contracted it.” The doctor also disclosed that two other health workers that have now been quarantined are in critical condition. www.punchng.com/politics/second-lagos-nurse-dies-of-ebola-says-fg/ |

Our banks may pay for our ATM services but they steal much more secretly or openly. Every month FirstBank charges me about 160naira for SMS charges and some other things I don't even understand yet I don't get any messages at all from them.
My folks who use more services at the bank complain about secret minor deductions regularly etc. yet this man wants us to start paying for our atm services. These banks are clearly getting more gain from us than this 65 naira we're about to start paying them. So if I wan withdraw 1k from another bank I go pay 65naira??
Oh Sanusi where art thou?? Come and save your people |

ZKOSOSO: This is the point. Why can't APC present a northern christian? Today in Nigeria whether we accept it or not religion has taken the center stage. So APC must CHANGE indeed and do the needful. Locate a Northern Pastor and present him as APC candidate only then u gat hope. Else u can't defeat Jonathan come 2015. For now no Norther Muslim can win presidential election. Even if APC event JAMBS, ISIS and boko haram to discredit GEJ. GEJ will win 2015. Cpc located pastor bakare in 2011 so why can't they locate another pastor from northeast? Shallow mind. APC brought Ebola to Nigeria abi?..instead of blaming your corrupt leadership for this country's problem keep on putting it on APC. Rubbish. |
