HealthRe: The Real Reason Nigerian Hospitals Ask For Police Report In Trauma Patients by azat: 3:31pm On Feb 26, 2015
babyosisi:
Doctors in Nigeria are generally heartless
They care nothing about their patients, human lives mean nothing to them and their nurses
The reception has a standing order not to let anyone without the stipulated thousands get past the outpatient department no matter how sick
All they are after is how much they milk from the ignorant helpless citizens
A nigerian doctor will keep a patient for weeks and pour infusion ( drip) down their arms endlessly without a diagnosis
Diagnosing your illness is not a priority, many don't care about that, they are after the payment of the bills
That's why a patient with a treatable ailment will walk in with both legs and leave in a casket
Butchers many of them

In all my years living and working in the USA I have never heard of a single woman I know or a woman known by anyone I know die while having a baby but in Nigeria it's a minute by minute occurrence.
People with normal uncomplicated pregnancies die daily at childbirth in nigerian hospitals due to negligence and malpractice and the families have no recourse.

Ever wonder why these folks don't let patients in on what is ailing them?
Ever wonder why they scratch off the names on the medication bottles they give you?
Ever wonder why they get angry when a concerned doctor calls to chat about a patient in their care and course of treatment?

The same corruption, heartlessness and greed that has permeated every sector of Nigeria is also rife in the hospitals
Why should anyone be surprised?
Madam stop taking it personal abeg. You rant as if a doctor ditched u once. Its shameful if you are doctor or health worker sef. You stay in US and deride your colleagues personally without considering the whole nigerian system. So you dont have nigerian doctors practising in diaspora or what. Abeg park well joor. Hundreds die from accidents on naija roads, u blame bad roads, people perish in air crashes u blame the aviation ministry, yet a patient dies u leave the same system of chaos and curruption in Nigeria and blame the poor doctor who tried his best under the circumstances. Mind u naija docs are doing well worldwide, mostly. I'm ashamed of u if u are medically trained, cos u speak like an insolent ignorant lay person. How many blood bank did u set up in ur nigerian village so that pregnant people wont die every minute in your village. Cos am sure its in ur village they die every minute. Come down and practice in nigeria lets compare. Next topic jare

Jobs/VacanciesPlease Help! What Does One-page Statement Mean In CV Writing by azat(op): 8:45am On Nov 20, 2014
Someone pls help me clarify this. I am applying for job online and the company said

''Email your CV with a one page statement and a cover letter stating specifics to...''

pls I'm confused. Does it mean the CV should be one page only, and what exactly is meant by ''one-page statement'' and ''with specifics''

pls anybody who can clarify, I'd be grateful.

PoliticsWhat Next After Edict That Created Nigeria Expires In 2014? by azat(op): 6:45pm On Dec 16, 2013
Posted on Monday, 16 December 2013 11:47
What next after edict that created Nigeria expires in 2014?

Will the unifying edict be renewed or denounced as the Nigerian experiment that was supposed to last for just 100 years expires in 2014?

On December 31st, 2014, the document that amalgamated Nigeria into one country would expire.

The British colonial edict of 1914 could be renewed or denounced, and the Nigerian state could stay united or split into several entities. We ought to agree either to extend it [amalgamation edict] or not
Starting from January 1, 2014, Nigerians and power brokers of the fourth republic must decide whether or not the country should remain a united entity.

The Movement for a New Nigeria (MNN), a secessionist organisation has emerged to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the colonial order, and the array of ethnic and tribal centred problems. "We ought to agree either to extend it [amalgamation edict] or not," MNN secretary general Tony Nnadi told reporters on 10 December.

For many, the clogs in the wheels of Nigerian unity began even before the Union Jack was lowered for the green and white flag.

As established by scholars, public figures, and political commentators, the 1914 amalgamation edict authored by Britain's Lord Frederick Lugard was illegitimate because it was done without a referendum.

It has also been criticised for ignoring the complexities of the ethnic and cultural divisions of the Niger-area. Hundred years after Nigeria's amalgamation, the north has remained the North, and so has the East and the West.

Consequently, advancing the Nigerian state has lagged behind regional placations.

As the 1914 British order expires, Nigerians must be prepared to address the state of the nation and its continuity through a national conference or the National Assembly.

Nigerians must be willing to talk about its existence as a unified entity. In the words of Nigerian scholar Femi Ajayi, "refusing to talk is like wanting to avoid variance in our daily life".

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo tried to get Nigerian power brokers to talk about the country's unity, but the 2005 National Political Reforms Conference, fell through.

Likewise, President Goodluck Jonathan proposed his national conference to discuss Nigerian unity and continuity.

The expiry of the amalgamation pits Jonathan's proposed national conference against growing disillusionment, religious and ethnic divisions, political posturing, and terrorism in Nigeria.

The implications of the 1914 edict under the current state of affairs in Nigeria are complex: Legally, Nigeria would seize to exist after 2014; the country would return to the pre-1914 structure that is the Lagos colony, the northern and southern protectorates; and the Nigerian people must re-enter a new agreement under their own terms.

Contingency plans have been reported to be underway by foreign powers who are convinced that Nigeria would split by 2015.

Nevertheless, in a pivotal phase of the fourth republic, Nigeria must decide whether or not it wishes to challenge the legality of the 1914 amalgamation edict or continue or abandon the dictates of the order.

Apparently, if there is a consensus, Nigeria's continued existence can be negotiated and a new union treaty created.

yungboss: you have not stated your answer
It is not a JAMB Class brother. Traditionally, questions on Nairaland are more or less to establish a platform for discussions, not necessarily a simple question-and-answer session.

Personally, I am not too enthusiastic about performance of cars for now; I'm still at a level where reliability (Point A to Point B movements) and fuel economy are priorities, but that does not mean I should be totally ignorant about what there is to wish for in a car, in terms of performance.

As such I should know I have no business trying to compete with a 2005 Toyota Sequoia 4.7L, V8 with 282hp Engine, if am driving a 2009 Corolla with 1.8L, I4 with 126hp Engine. Or trying to compete with a V6 406 when I am riding a Yaris of 1.5 I4 Engine with just 106 horse power.
Car TalkRe: What Do You Want In A Car Before Purchase? by azat: 10:46am On Nov 21, 2013
For many Nigerians (If not most) the most important thing is a 'Clean Car' and I4 engine. Most times, once the car is 'clean' nothing else matters, not even something as basic as the Engine Size.

I had a friend who wanted to buy Camry 2000 xle, but was finding it hard to find cos of scarcity. After explaining to him that XLE preorder could be harder to find and obviously more expensive, I asked him if the LE trim will not be enough for him, he said no. Then I specifically asked him what features/options he really wanted from the XLE trim he was requesting, he said ''factory fiitted AC, factory fitted CD and Alloy Wheels''!

I was so weak.

lomomike: If the handbrake light is lit check to ensure that d parking brake is totally disengaged, drive slowly and observe if the car drags even slightly. If it doesn't drag even after the handbrake mechanism is disengaged, then its either the wiring of the handbrake is breached or even the car has been tampered with prior to you taking delivery of the car.
Thank you. The handbrake light is not on..and it's always fully disengaged while I drive but I think the disengagement isnt as smooth as it should.

Wow! Thanks...the break does not screech as if the pads are worn, but I feel there is sth not perfect about the handbrake. Will check it out and the fluid. Thanks
Car TalkRe: Brake Light Indicator Is Always On! Should I Be Worried? by azat(op): 9:42am On Sep 29, 2013
Mc oldsoja: reduced brake effectiveness for leak and increased pedal travel for pads.
If yu are a DIY person, you can carry out the inspection yourself.
Ok..but what's a DIY personhuh
Car TalkRe: Brake Light Indicator Is Always On! Should I Be Worried? by azat(op): 9:14pm On Sep 28, 2013
Mc oldsoja: It's not advisable to just top up brake fluid without first getting the root cause which could be one of the ffg: leakage in the lines , worn brake pads and shoes (as the case may be).
Ok. So is there any way I can differentiate these different possibilities while driving the car? Thanks
Car TalkRe: Brake Light Indicator Is Always On! Should I Be Worried? by azat(op): 9:13pm On Sep 28, 2013
okpara ugo: go and buy brake fluid, ask your mechanic to show you the compartment. top it up.

if it repeats soonest, then your brake is leaking from one of the four tyre points. the mechanic should trace the leak and you go and purchase the dissembled parts and he fixes it/them back for you....

as a new car owner, a car is very simple to understand, if you don't see it that way, your mechanic go chop you wella.
Thank you bro. Will check that. Please can you give me a fore knowledge of the type of fluid to use for the model of the car?

Is it the brake light at the car tail or brake warning light/bulb on the instrument that is lit?

Ikenna.
Thanks Ikenna. I meant the warning ligjt on the intrument. Your input will be appreciated.

Car TalkRe: As A New Driver, Can I Attempt Interstate Roads? by azat: 1:56pm On Sep 16, 2013
Let me ask o, is there a stipulated amount of time someone must have been driving in the city before they can embark on highway drive, I mean according to law?

I feel 8 months good driving is ok for a try. There is always that first time. Even if one waits for 10yrs the first time will still be the first time.

If you are careful and disciplined, and drive ok in the city, I think the rest depends on your 'mind'.

If the airbag light goes off after you start the car then the airbag is intact.
It is possible the airbags were not deployed-probably becos it was not a frontal impact.
Thank you
Car TalkHow Do I Know If A Used Car Airbag Is Still Intact? by azat(op): 6:53pm On Jul 19, 2013
The autocheck report showed 2 reported accidents with the vehicle, one a right rear impact and the other unspecicified. No mention of the airbags was made in autocheck report.

Is there a way one can, by inspection, detect a previously deployed airbag in a car?

It is a 1998 Accord, I4.

PoliticsRe: Why Can't We Start Up A Revolution To End Massive Corruption In Nigeria? by azat: 10:07am On Jul 09, 2013
nwabobo: @Op, the Arab spring revolution was started in Tunisia by a young man who doused himself with fuel and set himself on fire. You can do the same.

Why not follow his footsteps and be the trigger for the Nigerian revolution instead of hiding under the cover of a mouse and keyboard to call for revolution?
that's exactly the problem, we keep pretending, day by day, that someone somewhere will soon make a change, somone instead of ourselves. Both you and Op are the same. Oh..and me too!

There's this thing about us Nigerians.
