Entrepreneurship and skill development!!!

Instead of wasting time doing these hopeless peanut jobs with no future, pls go and learn valuable skills like fashion designing, welding, carpentry on a high skill level, plumbing, POP, metal works, tiling, web design + programming/coding, graphics design, etc or plan and migrate to a more promising country legally.

These jobs will only kill your self esteem, make you more scared of the future and more scared to face the future. They kill time and waste future angry

Nigerian graduates must forget that useless status: "I am a graduate", it no longer holds water....the value has died...any graduate still feeling fly because he or she graduated from either university, polytechnic or college of education is wasting his or her time. forget the name and humble yourself and join others to do whatever they are doing to survive.

Hmmmm!! Thanks you've made my day. My brain is seriously thinking already. By His grace I pray I find a skill I'm interested in. I have to also plan for my children so that they won't face this rubbish.

No wonder anytime Nigeria Airforce place advert for RECRUITMENT EXERCISE. You will see a lot of graduates even with both academic and professional masters applying for recruit. God have mercy. Which way Lord!

Nigerian youths are so freaking cowards!

Why are u guys scared of naming these companies that do not value your destiny

Nobody knows your name here, go ahead and name them to shame them and pre warn others from working for them angry

Nigerian youths have been victimised to become cowards to even speak up anonymously, gosh, no hope for Nigeria angry angry

Let me help you guys:

1.) Any private owned school in Nigeria that is not owned by Europeans or Americans, don't work!

Most Nigerian private schools pay their staff between 15,000 - 45,000 per month as salary, isn't this suicidal angry

2.) Any private hospital in Nigeria is a hell to work!

Private hospitals in Nigeria pay nurses between 30,000 - 50,000 and doctors between 75,000 - 150,000 depending on how big the hospital is, don't envy their staff cry

3.) Any Call center job is a hell!

4.) Any bank contract job is slavery!

5.) Any Nigerian fast food reatuarant or eatery or hotel job is slavery, don't expect good salary or welfare!

6.) PHCN under the new private owners now is a hell. I repeat NEPA work don cast! Anybody that tells u he or she works with Nepa now, pls pity him or her unless he or she is a manager or those people that go about disconnecting lights because they make money by stealing and crooks.

You see Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company If they offer u a job, get a lawyer and sue them for 10billion for attempting to enslave u angry angry

7.) Jumia, konga, Payporte, etc, in fact all online store companies in Nigeria are a waste of time. They don't pay their staff. They pay only the key managers!

8.) All transport companies in Nigeria; name anyone u know, pls be prepared to die young working for peanut unless u know how to steal smartly to makeup your useless monthly salary that can't rent u a house angry

9.) Any Nigerian owned factory, Indian or Lebanese owned factory or company, run for your life because u are going in for another slavery! angry

10.) Dangote companies; forget the name Dangote, all his staff members who are not managers are suffering, except those that steal in one way or the other.

Dangote job is another form of slavery! Run if any Dangote company offer u job, run, run and never look back until u disappear! angry

In fact, the only good jobs in Nigeria are federal government jobs, international oil company and oil servicing jobs, international shipping company jobs, some few bank jobs, government parastatals and NGOs (the best jobs), international aviation and airline company jobs, others are crap, most of their staff survive by stealing the company angry

Hmmmm!!! So what's the way forward!!!

Dawudski:

Having just finished my BSc Economics Degree last year with first class result from one of Nigeria's prestigious universities, I think I need to air my view on this very Important and contentious issue.
Firstly, I concur with the people here on this forum who says that the boy should be allow to choose between the two for himself if he can. Questions like, do you enjoy working with machines, electricity, buildings, chemicals etc?? does he like to be called an engineer or an economist?? Does he like wearing helmet or does he enjoys the corporate lifestyle such as working in banks, insurance Companies or even going through the entrepreneural way?? Check this out as hints.
Secondly, Economics is not an easy course as some people portray it to be on this forum. It involves an extensive usage of further maths coupled with lots of graphical expressions. Anyway, I believe your boy is upto the task.
Personally, as lots you might have guessed I favour economics than engineering especially in this present Nigeria context.
Hope this helps...

Very well my dear. A big congratulations to you on your grade, that's a very enviable grade I must confess. I wish you the very best in life. Thanks.

Did you read the part where my post stated that this "This forum is anonymous, so no one will put a face to your results''?

Anyway, I already suspected your above results. I've lots of experience dealing with young people like you and I was once young too smiley. But I won't put you aside. I've seen instances where C students went on the university, worked crazily hard and made an impressive first class, not just oriyomi first class. Perhaps the C was because they attended a secondary school which did not give them a chance to realize their full potentials.

You can send me an email and we will start the mentor/mentee relationship and I will do my best to answer all of your questions. I believe it will be a beneficial relationship. But - I set academic targets for my mentees, every semester, and the targets must be achieved. The target is a GPA of between 4.8-5.00 every semester at the university. You also get gifts for attaining this GPA. Current gift is 55K naira per month. We run a company that funds the provision of the gift.

Any mentee that gives stories of ''oh, this course is hard or our professor does not give an A, that's why I can't meet the target, such mentee may lose their positions. We have over 30 mentors around the world. Very solid solid people with the highest possible degree that is obtainable at the university level. So to work with you, you go good oooh. You go work hard for your academics oooh. But the benefits are good!

In fact, if your GPA nears the perfect 5.0 upon graduation (i.e. A's in 98% of your courses), we provide support to attend the very best universities in the world - think Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, MIT, Cambridge, etc.

Send me an email and I will ask you more detailed, uncomfortable questions grin. But overall, you have a lot to gain, and it's even better that you're just starting your university journey..You don't have any bad university baggage. It will all be in your favour.

Pls I still can't get ur email. I've gone tru ur profile no email. How do I get ur email so that we could talk further on my son. Thk you.

I don't know why people think Economics is an easy course, having done it in the university, I will advise him to choose Engineering if he is good in calculation, not like economics doesn't have calculation but it is more of graphs and as a science student, he might get frustrated in the process of studying Economics.

Hmmmm!! Thank you. Lord Pls lead us aright.

I'm not saying somebody shouldn't read engineering. But I do not agree that he is more suitable for engineering. Yes, engineering is one of the courses he is suitable for, not more suitable as it's hard to decide the ''more'' in this instance. Look at the results again. The boy also did well in economics and math and others.

Engineering should only be done if the boy is really keen on this. Otherwise no need. And it's not a brainpower matter. One of the regrets that my brother has till today is deciding to study engineering (coincidentally the same mechanical engineering) in 1990 when he should have done a 4 year course like physics or math and moved ahead with his life.

I do agree that others might have a different positive story. In fact, my cousin who studied the same engineering some years later is now a big boy at one of those oil companies raking in millions upon millions, so no two situations are the same. But as I said, in a scenario like this where a child appears to be talented in several areas, either they go with the child's desire or they suggest something that can help the child get an even better outcome. In my view, only medicine is worth the number of years of dedicated studies. The other 5 or 6 - year courses, well I do not think they are worth the time, but this is my view sha.

I, for example, if you see my O'level, you will also say I'm suitable for engineering. In fact, my friends went for engineering, but I did something unconventional and went for one of those courses where people will say ''you wan become secondary school teacher''. Lol. I'm an economist today and it turned out that my decision nearly 20 years ago was fantastic, an optimal one. And praise God for that. My elder bro thinks I made a great decision avoiding engineering. Lol. I no say make person no study engineering oo. My argument is that a solid future can come faster from other fields.

I've hammered too much on this matter. Normally, thousands are paid for my consulting, but see me giving it free here, likely to go unnoticed because it's free. But no wahala. Hopefully, what I've said will help someone.

Good luck to the boy in question.

Thanks a lot. Pls can you send me a mail at queenolujames74@gmail.com. I will appreciate it.

Madam your sons result looks better than mine, yet I was able to study engineering and come out with good grade. Its all about his determination and drive. Again this is not the time to choose a course for your ward.I believe has his own interest and should be allowed to follow that.
And by the way who told you economics is a less difficult course? In my opinion economics is as difficult as engineering. If your hubby is afraid of his son failing in engineering, then he should also be afraid of him failing in economics. Economics is a very difficult course to study.
I think you should let your son study the course he wants to study.

Hmmmm! Thank you so much.i really appreciate your advice. God will bless you.

I just checked my son's waec result today it was good. I'm very happy and I thank God. He initially wanted to read engineering which made him to go to science class. But the father is scared of him coming out with not too good a grade if he should study engineering, hence the father, suggested Economics for him to study, now my boy too is embracing the idea of reading Economics. Please what do you advice, my boy passed all his sciences. It's really a tough decision for me.

Health / See How You Can Loose Weight Without Reducing Your Food-intake by Babayoutoomuch(f): 8:01pm On Jul 03, 2018
Time-restricted eating can lower weight, blood pressure

Researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, have shown that fasting for 16 hours of the day and eating any kind of food between 10 am and 6 pm are an effective weight loss measure that can also lower blood pressure.

According to news-medical.net, this is the first time researchers have studied the effect of time-restricted eating, where eating is limited to certain times of day for weight loss among obese people.

As reported in the journal, Nutrition and Healthy Aging, the researchers studied 23 obese individuals of about 45 years of age, who had an average body mass index of 35. Between 10 am and 6 pm, eight hours, participants could eat any type and quantity of food they liked, but for the other 16 hours, they only drank water or calorie-free drinks. They undertook the diet for 12 weeks and were continuously monitored. This they described as the 16:8 diet.

Study author, Krista Varady, said the team compared the findings with a matched control group from a previous weight loss trial that investigated a different type of fasting.

“The researchers found that people who followed the 16:8 diet consumed fewer calories, lost weight and had improved blood pressure, compared to the controls. All other measures, including fat mass, insulin resistance and cholesterol, were similar to the control group.

“The take-home message from this study is that there are weight loss programmes that do not involve calorie counting or the elimination of certain foods. Although the research indicates that daily fasting works for weight loss, no studies have yet established whether it is more effective than other diets,” Varady said.
