Because today's children are lazy. And it's due to technology. Children today would rather

work their fingers and thumbs over a keyboard or keypad that run, jump and play as children

did years ago. That's also why there are so many obese and physically unfit children nowadays,

at least in the U.S.

LOL--- And that's why "they" are creating more and more motion Video games/Consoles; Wii, PSmove and Co.
It's not really effective though. People/kids still prefer handling with their Gamepads and munching Popcorn ---

Kids back in the day also had technology with which to play, but it still did not stop them from playing outside. Aside from laptops, there has really been no completely new technology, although the technology has improved. We had video games growing up, we had walkmans, etc. So the reason is that kids nowadays are just lazy.
