1. Governors giving account of their performance was not a new thing after 1983. IBB came into power in August 1985 until August 1993. And he had his own formula for holding on to power. 😒

2. Every Governor in that country reported regularly to the military, as most of them were military governors. So, I am not certain why you now wish to treat the Bode George situation as some sort of anomaly of the time in question. 😒

Reshufflings were commonplace under military rule, and everyone had limited time to loot and get as much as they could before they fell out of favor. That was the formula under Babangida and again under Abacha. That doesn't mean that any of them were literally fired for corruption. Corruption was the order of the day, and everyone, including IBB, was doing it. It was just a matter of who knew who and for how long that mattered. 😒😒

3. Marwa was the only governor who outperformed all the other governors, and he came in at the tail end of Abacha's rule. He chose to be the exception in a long line of corrupt, deceptive governors in all of the states before and after him. 😒😒

No. Under the military especially after the post 1983 coup period; Governors had to give regular account of their performance and most Governors served for 18 months. A Governor not sent to another State and sent to the barracks like Bode George of Ondo State or removed before one year was usually guilty of non performance or corruption and a Governor who served in the same State for more than 18 months like Marwa in Lagos was performing above expectations.
No Governor dared opposed the President or Head of State openly or privately that would be treason and execution.
It was before 1975 under Gowon that Governors were powerful. At that time there were all same age, close in military rank and just 4, then 12 Governors.
