Interesting. I was wondering how many people launched the attack ... that only three are at trial. Is it because they are Muslims and the victims Christians therefore the motive is religious? ... I remember the mass church shooting in Anambra about 8 years ago, we heard it was some drug dealers angry about a guy who duped them in South Africa so they came to the father's Church and killed almost 20 people.

The people of Owo deserve answers and justice.

Does anyone know the reason for the attack?
1) ISWAP and Boko Haram usually gloat , make videos and tell the whole world of their achievements.
2) Terrorists would normally target something major in a major city for example the State Capitall.
3) Were the attackers after some people in particular as one eye witness said after the attack in 2022? He said they were shouting for someone and then people confronted them ,thats when the shooting started.

If these people are guilty, it should be death penalty and prompt execution.

Simply allow verified private security companies and Civil Defense personnel to carry guns, then Police won't need to protect individuals

We make simple things difficult in Nigeria.

The economy is in a terrible state.
Most salaries simply do not make sense.
Most Nigerians live illegally and unethically to make ends meet.

But the truth of the matter is that policing remains a social service, an obligation of the state as per the constitution.

But the Federal government is mistaken if it thinks it can fund the policing of this country to any reasonable standards alone.

Two things it should do:

One, press legislation to have state and local government police. The Federal government retains somewhere about 40 percent of all revenues accruing to this country. In simple terms it should be paying only 40 percent of the police work force in Nigeria. States and LGA's should fund the rest to their capacities. Only 4 out of 10 policemen should be a Federal officer.

Two, press legislation to have personal protection and facility protection services as an independent institution which will be administered and commissioned by the end users at their cost subject to certain eligibility laws. So that everyone from the Presidency to the Bank CEO, everywhere from refineries to government buildings are protected by this service.

Government can then make their security a line item in the budget and made payable to this organisation and civilians as well in their company and personal accounts.

Then the police will become a truly independent, apolitical institution and regain a lot of professionalism and respect it has frittered away cavorting with the very people it should superintend over.

You are definitely an intelligent person and also a patriot!!!

I believe the directive was clear enough.
That personal protective services and facility protection by the police has ended and such duties will be handled by the Civil Defence going forward.

So I don't understand what excuses these are.
For a policeman to leave his posting to travel as a so called escort.

When you begin to find loopholes to laws and directives the end result is a total collapse of such laws and edicts because Nigerians are notorious for exploiting and abusing them to the fullest.

Expect the generation of a thousand new excuses each week going forward in this lawless country.

That directive won't work for the simple reason of leadership by example.
If the President and his family don't live on their salaries as in they enjoy the Nigerian loot, there is no way you will tell a policeman with a salary of 150k a month not to argument his pay with extra 200k by providing services for people especially when his Ogas collect quota.

Things like this will work when:

1) Corruption becomes a crime in Nigeria and people are prosecuted

2) True salaries are paid people. Paying a President 1 million naira or a policeman with a gun 150k is a joke.

3) Governorment creates a safety net for the people so that within a generation,money is no longer the only symbol of success

Private temporary assignment of of off duty policeman will never stop. Its the detailing of police who should be on duty that has to end.
If i am not wrong, at least 20% of policemen will always be off duty whether during the day or night, they can be allowed to be hired and paid.
Even in America, that's how policemen argument their salary.

But to permanently place policemen to be guarding people, that needs to stop, but only if the government allows the security outfits to be armed and also NDDC or what do they call them again?

Hanged? I dont think Nigeria has ever executed any terrorist. Infact nobody has been executed in Nigeria by the government since 2007 or thereabouts when Adam's Oshiomole signed the death warrants of some armed robbers in Edo State.

I hope these convictions of ISWAP especially the alleged masterminds of those bombings are true; because the audacity with which ISWAP/ISIS openly fought Boko Haram 2 weeks ago on Lake Chad in broad daylight made it seem like we have no government, no military, no Navy.

I am still wondering why over 1 million soldiers, police, para military cannot rout less than 50,000 bandits and terrorists especially since the country has an Air Force.
