Sukkot (and his various alternate monikers since 2006) is a well known troll / spiritual teacher in this forum. Don't take him serious. Before engaging him in any topic, know who you are dealing with. He is actually not a bad person, just like trolling.

He indeed lived in the UK (and was actually born) and the US but at some point he developped great nostalgia for africa and was following a spiritual awakening that made him renounce it all and ultimately fly back to Nigeria. You have to understand where he is coming from to better judge his posts. He is someone that follows a simplistic, antimaterialistic and spiritual inclined way of life and judges everything from that angle. His Family is quite rich with ties to the ruling class in Lagos so he does not view the world from the perspective of a struggling nigerian japaing.

Of course pertaining to the issue at hand, on a pure economic basis, the West offers way more opportunities to the wise and hustling mind than nigeria. I even wonder how this can be a topic for debate. The difference however may be on the social / cultural side.

I generally don't give advice on travelling out but my 2 pence is this.
UK is going thru economic meltdown at the moment. So things a expensive and hard. But there are still jobs and opportunities.
U have to work hard and be smart to achieve breakthrough.
Pls focus on IT, go for certification in IT courses eg project management. IT is a great economic cushion in this period. Your wife can go into coding since she has computer science background. She can easily earn 400 pounds a day in that field.
Finally, not everything Sukkot said is wrong, don't come here thinking u will be able to build house in maitama or banana island. Don't come here thinking of becoming a billionaire that will be throwing money around in naija. If that's your intention pls don't come.
UK isnt build for such, in fact most western nations apart from America is strongly socialist.
U can attain a solid middle class life here easily compared to Nigeria. Find ways to beat the system albeit legally otherwise u will use all your money to pay tax and bills.

Another one from my e-mail. Now that we've clarified doctor's salary in UK.

Now explain to us how u lived in UK for 20 yrs without a house to your name. Houses were fvcking cheap then. All u needed was 5k to own a house.
So how come u never bought just one, even if council house. Were u blowing all your money in clubs or spending on girls. Did u send your kids to private school or what?

My friend who relocated to Sunderland 6 months ago analysed to me that Japa to UK is still better than Nigeria. That He saves 500 pounds monthly after bills ( which is about 500k naira) compared to me doing white collar job and earning 300k naira salary in Nigeria. He does minimum wage job in Sunderland @10 pounds per hour and on dependent visa while his wife is on student visa.

I don't know if he is lying that he saves 500 pounds monthly cause that looks good while doing menial jobs in Sunderland. Compared to white collar job in Lagos that pays 300k for the whole month. My brain has been curious if he is saying the truth or not.

alright let's do the math on your lying friend. 10 pounds per hour at 40 hours a week is 1600 a month. Tax will leave him with 1200 a month . Rent in Sunderland maybe 500 a month he has 700 left. Utilities like 300. He has 400 left. Council tax 150. He has 250 left. Phone and internet. 100. He has 150 left.

I haven't added feeding and this your friend has only 150 left. I put it to you that your friend does not even make enough to feed himself or get a haircut or buy clothes. He will be one of those Nigerians over there who go to Salvation Army charity or church charity to get free food because they can't feed tbemself. Almost 40 percent of Nigerians in the UK cannot afford food. If you go to the charity section of every church where they give free food to the hungry it's full of Nigerian families.
