Kindly let us know ur present position on the durabilty of Bora,after reading these first hand,FACTUAL, experiences from pained previous OWNERS!!! Did you notice what time hauwabd replied?Even after two Avensis as consolation, the pains are still fresh. As for tony_Issey,I feel your pain bro. I have this friend with a worse tale than yours. Perhaps I should join you both so you write a book titled Travails of the Bora Owner,after which you both sue and close down volks wagen.From a 350k initila purchase( he thought he had hammered),he's now spent =N=1.1m and counting. If you see how sweet this car looks,you wont believe it's capable of such bleeding. Next thing I hear say him tow the the car for deliverance,

@ OPThe Bora has very questionable second hand value. Why should a car cost the virtually same as its tokunboh engine? I have seen several clean ones that have been put up for sale at prices between 400k ans 500k. A lot of them are still on sale,after several months. I was almost tempted to buy one but after doing my research from mechanics and all,I passed. My advice is if it's not going to be your third car, take off. I dont know what it is with the car but 7 out of 10 mechanics will advice you against it, if economy is your major criteria. And, the engine is not the same as Golf as stated earlier in one of the posts!!! Confirm this,dont take my word for it,but I confirmed. I am in love with German cars,all my cars have been German and I wouldn't have it otherwise but the Bora and Passat V6 are cars that will make you hate yourself when they 'start driving' you. If you insist on buying,get a good mechanic standby and ensure he has a Launch X431 scanner. If you gamble with electrical faults, you may have intractable problems.When you eventually get fed up and want to sell,car dealers will price the car 200k and pay twice!You said you hardly see it on the road. True,but that alone is enough food for thought. Why is this?? For such a fine car And at such cheap prices The car may be unique,but remember, unique cars come with unique problems. My Volkswagen mechanic calls it CHAIRMAN!!! It's the tag he gives to cars that will stay for months without  being sold. A word they say is enough for the wise.
