OhBritannia: The old guard part 2 is a solid 3/10 for me. This i must say is the biggest movie disappointment this year. I don't know how and why they fumbled a movie franchise that was already a household name, something they would have capitalized on and build a famous franchise like John wick.
They just fumbled the project with a very shittyy part two, huge low bar, everything from the starting to the end was just too amature, looking a low budget action movie made 100 years ago.
Like i said i wonder what the Bleep they were thinking having a part one that was a masterpiece and then doing the rubbish they did in part two.
They should just end it, no need for part 3.
Old Guard never stood a chance at becoming like John Wick...
The first movie wasn't good as well...let's not rewrite history here...
It had nice ideas that made it popular but poor execution
Considering Season 3 is completely original content as the manga ended where season 2 ended... And even the anime was only an OVA released I believe...
I hope they don't butcher it... But the trailer looks insane tho...
Illusioneffect: Not likely but it certainly would affect the morale of the movie. I'm not very sure of a billion anymore. preaching instead of entertaining (which in my opinion it didn't) is Hollywood right now and people don't want that anymore
Imo there nothing wrong with a movie having political messages as long as it's well written and doesn't feel preachy
Same problems as the first movie - good idea, terrible execution... The writing is ambitious as always but the writers are not competent enough to tell that story... It's almost like the writers are trying to write a story bigger than their abilities...
At a point, I thought I was 20 minutes into this movie only to see I was 1 hour into it. And that was because nothing had happened so far... The character writing felt like they were just at the beginning of developing when the movie was already reaching it's conclusion...
In all, this movie was a waste of time...
There was so much potential to build up the relationship between the characters but everything from the amateur script, to terrible dialogue, to mediocre acting rendered it useless...
When you go from a series with brilliant acting with Squid Game (except VIPS) to a movie with mediocre acting such as this, the difference is so obvious
The same generic trash we've seen a million times before. It adds nothing new to the superhero genre or the MCU.
Just the same recycled plot ChatGPT could write.
What really is the point in paying people to write the exact same script over and over again when you could just use AI to recycle it...? At least that way you'd save costs.
I wasn’t expecting the film to be so emotionally profound—it truly was an emotional rollercoaster. Initially, I anticipated a standard action-packed experience, but it quickly became clear that the filmmakers were exploring a deeper thematic direction. I can clearly see why some slow individuals might find it hard to grasp the direction of the movie, particularly those who don't think comic book movies should carry more thematic weight like tackling real-world issues such as depression, substance abuse, trauma, and social isolation.
The film’s focus on mental health gave the story a familiar resonance, but it was presented in a refreshing and impactful way. I now understand why critics responded so positively—this feels like a long-awaited breakthrough where the MCU finally offered audiences something emotionally relatable and meaningful.
It also reminded me of other ambitious films that took similar narrative risks but failed to perform commercially. It's unfortunate, but studios have long had contingency plans for movies that underperform at the box office. Fortunately, theatrical revenue is only one part of a film’s overall profitability. With its digital release on platforms such as Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango, and the upcoming Disney+ launch, I’m confident this remarkable project will eventually find financial success—even if the public isn’t made fully aware of its digital earnings.
pu7pl3: The director of that Love Exposure was definitely on some psychedelic mushrooms. A really top tier movie that's also goofy at the same time. 4hrs was worth it.
Honestly. I heard the movie was supposed to be 6 hours long but the director was told to cut it. So a lot of scenes were cut.
But the director's cut has never been released. But there's a slightly longer version with 30 mins extra footage
What's with David Lynch's weird style of storytelling? Why is this dude obsessed with dream sequences and ambiguous storytelling.
This is one of the most ambiguous movie I've ever watched seducing me into the story and confusing me once more throughout, even until the end where I began piecing everything together.
It's a pretty slow burn and everyone might not be patient with it. I was beginning to get annoyed after 1hr of watch time and I'm yet to understand what the whole story was about. Even slept off yesterday night after an hour.
Things really begin to kick off from around 1hr25min or so. And then it began a wild ride or what's real and imaginary.
It's a brutal take on living the Hollywood dream. Wanting to be a successful actor or actress. Get auditioned. Wow the filmmakers. Get the role. Kill it. And then begin an accomplished career of stardom and success.
It is always sweet dreaming this shït up but reality sets in about the brutal nature of the industry.
I was already cussing the director midway into the film cos I was losing my patience and really needed to get to the juicy part. You might still not understand the movie even after watching the whole thing trying to figure out what was dreamed up or what was reality. But once you fully understand the film you'd begin to appreciate it's story or the whole point to it.
It's a brilliant take albeit a weird and overly ambiguous one.
David Lynch's love for sound score driving his movie is cool but his style of sound design isn't one I'm keen on. I don't really like his sound choices and I just knew I was watching a David Lynch production just by the sound after watching that his atrocious EraserHead movie. 😭😭
I also mostly don't like how some scenes very noticeably in the first 45mins or so where some sounds where higher than normal and some were lower than normal in many instances. It was kinda distracting having to adjust my volume most times.
Top top film, overall. Great acting from the cast....darn beautiful women with a decent dose of pristine nüdity and bööbs. Great film....reminds me of VERTIGO and how films of that era (20th century) were made. Old school directing with mature themes and serious topics, no frills attached and without the nowadays focus on agendas.
Just finished this movie...
The movie is good but Critics calling it one of the best movies of all time must be joking...
On that list there are way better movies...
For a better version of the movie, go watch Perfect Blue.
Both movies have some similarities but Perfect Blue is much better.
