Politics › Re: Jonathan Reveals Those Who Advised Him Not To Concede Defeat To Buhari In 2015 by Badonasty(m): 8:20am On Nov 21, 2018 |
Gistpeeps: https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/origs8001860/549636998-w644-h960/Goodluck-Jonathan.gif
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed how he was advised against accepting defeat in the 2015 presidential election.
Jonathan also declared that the election was marred with some irregularities, including the difficulty he faced before he could vote in his native Otuoke, Bayelsa State home.
The ex-president said he conceded defeat principally because it was his belief that his ambition should not lead to loss of lives and property as it was the case in previous elections.
The revelations are contained in the former President’s book, “My Transition Hours”, which was presented in Abuja yesterday on his 61st birthday.
Jonathan said he turned down the advice by the then Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Attorney-General of the Federation and Justice Minister Mohammed Bello Adoke; Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka, who was a compere at the book launch; and his Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, Warpamowei Dudafa.
He writes: “They were recommending sundry alternatives, but I was quiet in the midst of their discussions. I hugged my thought, figuring out how to do that which was best for the country. My personal interest was receding rapidly and the interest of Nigeria looming large. I excused myself and left the sitting room. I walked into my study. Even there, my mantra was a strong circle around me, supporting and comforting me. Let the country survive. Let democracy survive. My political ambition is not worth people being ‘soaked in blood’.”
On how and why he called to concede victory to Buhari, he wrote: “More results flowed in and I could not wait anymore. The announcement of the final result could take issues out of all our hands. It was time for me to take action and bring peace to the nation. I felt I was destined by God at that point in time to inject the peace serum and douse the palpable tension in the country.
“I reached out for his telephone and placed a call through the State House operators at about 4:45pm. A peace I had never felt since my political sojourn descended on me. It showed me where I had been in the past sixteen years and where I was then. I smiled at the thought of what I was about to do. I waited calmly for the person at the end of my call to answer.
“My Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, sought my permission to tweet my phone conversation with Buhari. I obliged and he did. The country was no longer waiting for the declaration of the election results. The nationwide tension automatically dissipated as through a red hot piece of iron had been dipped in a bowl of water. Thereafter, I addressed the nation.”

14Ebiscoo: Tunde Akinsanmi, ex-member of popular music group, Styl Plus, has said the government can afford to pay workers N100,000 minimum wage if it musters the political will to do so.
He stated this on Thursday in a chat with DAILY POST in Abuja.
Recall that the Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and Governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari, had said the proposed N30,000 minimum wage would be paid if labour would agree to downsizing of the workforce across the country.
Reacting to the governor’s statement, Tunde disagreed with him, saying, the nation had huge deposits of petroleum resources and adequate human capital to drive itself to prosperity and cater for the its workforce.
The music star, now known as Tunde T Dot, said: “The current N18,000 is already too low. To make matters worse, workers are not even paid regularly.
“When citizens become so aggressive, hurt each other, and attempt suicide, it is the same government that will prosecute the people for trying to take their own lives and those of others.
“For me, I think N100,000 is ideal minimum wage for workers and I think we can afford it because we have crude oil which, to me, is even a bonus.
“Most importantly, we have enough human capital to make our nation productive, develop, and prosperous.”

Following an ongoing report on social media that the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, collapsed at the airport in Abuja, the party has debunked the rumour, saying the contestant in the last Osun gubernatorial election was hale and healthy In a statement released to DAILY POST by the Spokesperson of Adeleke Campaign Organization, Olawale Rasheed, the party declared that there was no time Adeleke left Abuja, let alone collapsing at the airport or any other place. It described the rumour as being totally false and mere propaganda to demean the party’s flag bearer.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to an evil rumour circulating about the state of health of Senator Ademola Adeleke. We affirm that the people’s governor is hale and hearty. “As a distinguished senator and holder of the people’s mandate, Ademola Adeleke has been attending to statutory duties within and outside his constituency in good health and high spirit. There was no time the Senator suffers health failure either at airport or anywhere else. “We, therefore, urge our teeming supporters and the good people of Osun state to ignore any fake news purporting health failure on the part of the Senator. It is a product of warped minds and infantile imagination of usurper of peoples mandate. “All hands are on deck to regain the mandate of the people freely given on September 22. Politics › Re: Electricity Problems Can’t Be Solved By Magic – Fashola by Badonasty(m): 9:13am On Oct 19, 2018 |
Itulah: The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has said electricity supply in the country is improving slowly and that power problems cannot be solved by magic.
Total power generation stood at 3,729 megawatts as of 6am on Wednesday, according to latest data obtained by our correspondent from the ministry.
Transmission Substation, Lagos, commended the Transmission Company of Nigeria for the ongoing projects across the country.
“We have come to hand over this expanded transmission substation, the Ejigbo Transmission Substation, to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company. This substation was built in 1970; the capacity was 60MVA then; except for the addition of another 60MVA, this community has grown exponentially; so they have exceeded the installed capacity here,” he stated.
The minister said President Muhammadu Buhari knew the substation required an expansion, adding that the capacity had been increased from 120MVA to 300MVA.
He stated, “Between that time and when President Buhari came three years ago, some people were there. But they will come back to you; so, when they come back, ask them if they didn’t know where to buy transformers.
“The problem of electricity is slowly being solved, one by one. Anybody will tell you he will do magic; tell him, ‘How?’ He should explain to you. We inherited 800 containers for power equipment left in the port for 10 years. President Buhari gave us approval, and we have recovered 690.”
According to Fashola, there are 90 transmission projects ongoing across the country, and some of the recovered of pieces equipment are being used for them.
“If you look at it, between 2015 and now, you ask yourself honestly: Are you spending more on diesel now or before? Are you running your generators for longer today or yesterday? So, are you seeing the power slowly staying longer? If you are truthful to yourself, you will know that it is better than yesterday. And we haven’t finished,” he said.
The Managing Director, TCN, Usman Mohammed, said the installation of the two units of 100MVA transformers at the Ejigbo Transmission Substation was funded by the World Bank through the firm’s project management unit.
He stated, “With the increase in the Ejigbo substation’s capacity, the TCN has substantially increased bulk electricity available in the substation for the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to take to its customers. Consequently, electricity consumers in Ejigbo, Egbe, Oke-Afa, Shasha, Ikotun, Ijegun, and Idimu town will now have improved power supply from Ikeja Electric.”
“Other benefits include relieve of some overloaded feeders in Egbe, Shasha and Oke-Afa. Also, the Lagos airport will now have more load allocated to it. Improved power supply in these areas will positively impact the socio-economic development of the areas in particular and the economy at large.”
