encryptjay: Wawwwwwu Finally switched allegiance from Gionee to Xiaomi because the latter has vision. Been perusing through this thread for some time now to acquaint myself with Xiaomi 'terminologies' and the 'Xiaomisphere' in general (If I should put it that way) pending when I got the device. Today, my phone arrived and I'm elated. Some items like glass and co arrived couple of days back though. I'd like to thank Noobody and other legit guys who've been ordering for folks here and other dignitaries present here.
The Umi Digi ambassador also with his humor. Noobody, na you ooo Thank you. That Umdigi ambassador makes me laugh too...My elder brother also joined the thread, he got his Mi5 about 2 weeks ago...I'll soon join the train. |

seyema: No, I will still advise you to buy xiaomi despite all those confusions but if you don't want to be disappointed, just buy the MI series. Xiaomi don't joke with that series I think unlike the Redmi you are right. Redmi series are midrange phones and one wont expect them to be perfect in all aspects, some corners have to cut here and there but overall they (redmis) are excellent phones for their price.. |
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bagger293: 12:41pm On Aug 07, 2017 |
Gptech: Of course newer midrangers are better, because of better support, GPU, and a superior manufacturing process in the case of the s625. Its like comparing a Toyota corolla 2016 to a Benz 200. But you know newer doesn't always mean better, there is an article on androidauthority.com which discusses about this issue, some latest midrange phones match the previous flagships in terms of performance. You are also right in terms of support and manufacturing process, I rest my case |

spartacus11: As in, d hypocrisy of SD to Mtk nor be small You know deep inside you that at flagship level Mtk no near SD...example (Helio X20/X25 and SD 820/821) just go to gsmarena or any phone reviewing site and see for yourself, you no dey ashamed sef, the MTK wey That Umdigi guy dey use na their flagship ooo, he con dey drag with common SD 625 wey be midranger...haba |
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bagger293: 6:42am On Aug 07, 2017 |
Gptech: Don't let the way Qualcomm make their device scatter your head, the snapdragon 625 can be considered a slight upgrade over the snapdragon 805. Of course it's not a flagship, but the performance is on par plus farrrrrrrr better battery performance on the 625. This has been an issue of debate :- "Latest Midrange Phones or Flagships of previous years, which category is better?" so in this case it's a matter of choice.. |

Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bagger293: 10:51pm On Aug 06, 2017 |
Lexusgs430: In the world of smartphones, when can we classify future? Is a Samsung Note 3 future proof? A buyer of the Note 3 in 2017, might think so, a present user might think so. Is a Samsung Note 3 still buttery smooth? Indeed...... You get my drift now? A Note 3 would still be smooth no doubt.. |
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bagger293: 10:29pm On Aug 06, 2017 |
Lexusgs430: No device is future proof at this rate. Just buy what you are happy with today, enjoy it and avoid temptations...... I dont think so...my moto was released October 2014 and till now late 2017 it's buttery smooth and no lags that's 3 years...you get what I mean by future proof now? |
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bagger293: 10:20pm On Aug 06, 2017 |
Gptech: All recent Xiaomi phones get global rom except Redmi pro. Nothing do the mtk version, people dey use am here, just ensure say the rom seller flash na official. But e still dey baffle me why you want the mtk instead of the snapdragon, the small almost unnoticeable speed or tweak? U really prefer those to better support? you have a point here, but you know it's good to have a 'future proof' device, right now Im using a SD805 phone which I'll be selling soon (Motorola Droid Turbo), so going from SD 805 to SD 625 would be a bit of a downgrade right..? |
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bagger293: 10:03pm On Aug 06, 2017 |
Gptech: Of course na, people here are on global rom already. wow that's cool, because I may switch to one of the xiaomis soon, though I read about users of the MTK complaining about some issues with their phones..I dey fear because na MTK RN4 dey my mind... |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by bagger293: 9:20pm On Jul 26, 2017 |
Scholastica16: That is the problem: apart from the US and to some degree Canada, it is very difficult to find a completely fully-funded post graduate program anywhere else let alone Europe.
It is not impossible, but it is difficult. Have you looked at Switzerland? I checked Switzerland, there are a few scholarship opportunities...but none of the universites which offer full scholarships have the course I'd like to study. For US, I don't like studying in there.. |
Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by bagger293: 10:00pm On Jul 25, 2017 |
Scholastica16: Again, your GPA is good.
I don't know much about schools in Europe but I know most German MSc programs are tuition free. You might consider them.
Take note however, you would need to front €8000 for room and board for a year.
I know Finland has the same Tuition free regimen as well as Norway (?). Brother Amofum might enlighten you more on France and you might check the Netherlands Visa thread to research TUDelft as well.
As for your 2nd question, yes, it is possible to secure a fully-funded Direct PhD admission off the bat. It takes grace and serendipity.
For possible schools, you may need to do your own research but one tip that would help you is to check admission results on grad cafe in the last 4 or 5 months.
You want to be a researcher, so take your time to study reported schools and profiles. You can then send emails to grad coordinators to inquire more, or jump the gun and email potential advisors straight.
Someone on NL got fully-funded by Montana Tech/University of Montana for a PhD in EEE. You might start from there.
Good luck! Thank you very much brother...I have checked the universities in Finland but I haven't seen any scholarship opportunity which covers everything including living cost. The universities being tution free, one has to cater for his living and other costs, I've checked TU Delft too |
Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by bagger293: 9:03pm On Jul 25, 2017 |
Scholastica16: Your profile is (VERY) good. I would only advice you wrote the GRE earlier than Oct (say September) just so you can put forward your applications in Oct or latest, the month after.
Early applications are given priority for admission and funding in many schools. Your WES will be above 3.7/4 by my rough estimation.
Also, your school choices are not bad but try to study admission results on grad cafe to see reports of people issued Direct PhDs with funding, date the admission was offered and in some ways profiles.
It will help in directing you to schools that would readily fund you and how early you would hear from them. For e.g, if I knew this tidbit when I was putting forward my applications, I would have known to expect a school like Mississippi State Uni to respond in July for engineering PhD applicants. They did exactly this 2016 and 2015....I am sure even 2012. The point is, they would not change their trend for you or anyone. Same goes WRT funding.
To that end, Auburn responded in April and funded almost all the reports on grad cafe. Their profiles were not better than what you have above. In fact, my friend that got into the Civil Engineering PhD fully funded had 4.55/5 GPA, 320 GRE 4 AWA and 99 TOEFL which you could easily mirror or eclipse.
So you may want to check when the schools you have above responded to applicants and how readily they funded them. You may also want to know if contacting POIs is more important than scoring 320+ in your GRE. Good day bruv...having gone through this thread..I developed interest to write GRE and TOEFL...first of all..here is my profile .. Graduate of Electrical Engineering (CGPA 4.22/5), I'm planning to write TOEFL and GRE, please which universities in Europe grant full time scholarships for Msc? Also, is it possible to secure a fully funded Phd in the US? If yes, which universities may I earn that opportunity?..Thank you very much in advance |
