No sir, a dichotomy is not an insult, it means a contrast between two things and was written by men who were herders but if my grammar was offensive to you. I apologize.

I am also within my rights to feel offended. Sadly like the meme I posted, religious people go out of their way to attack irreligious folk with uttermost disrespect and yet expect the same to take it on the chin. If you retaliate in like manner, people ask you to be respectful.
It doesn't work like that. If you denigrate someone else, then expect it two fold. If you play stupid games, then you win stupid prizes. It's that simple.
e don do na. The thing is, there are others (besides the person you referred to) who would be offended also, because religion is a shared thing.

You are within your rights to get upset and react, but note that there are others reading who would also get offended by your own reaction. They also have the right to feel offended that their religion is attacked just because some other person said something silly to you.

Revenge is a never-ending cycle. Sheath your sword.

Unnecessary noise. $143bn is still a very far way off from a trillion dollars. He has to make $857bn extra in 6 years to hit that projection.

Highly noted. Thats why I was specific to myself. This has been my personal experience. Probably, I'm the unfortunate one landing with unfortunate display. grin

Please note that I'm not against AMOLED. Heck, if they find a solution to the burnins, I will port. But make them release a device with IPS screen and SD865, until they time they find a solution.
well, you don't need to port. Use what you prefer. Just know the pros and cons of each.

There are many who would also complain when they see an IPS LCD screen on a device with SD865 and, I dare say, they are in the vocal majority.

I personally don't mind using either. Based on my phone usage, I know what I should be expecting after a year of use.

The iQOO Neo3 phone by Vivo might fit your taste. I think it has been released already.

Its funny. SD865 phone with an IPS LCD display is very very scarce. I was curious about the whole AMOLED thing and just checked. It just a Vivo Neo 5G only.
I hated AMOLED because of the burn in defect. I hated to see it on my S5 and still hate to see it now.
It very annoying especially when viewing movies...and you would be seeing your keyboard outline against a sky white background or your battery icon and network status.
I wish they could find a method of fixing it.
you guys should chill on this anti-AMOLED rants jor. Just a few months ago, on this same thread, AMOLED was considered far better than LCD in everything and now it's considered bad? Must people jump from one extreme opinion to another?

Know what you need and what is best for it. Then regard that discovery as it truly is - a personal opinion. Our own tastes do not make AMOLED or LCD good or bad.

Also, take care of your devices. There are people who use their phones without having to repair anything. Same phones others see burns or get cracks and have to fix.

Lol. Some women are downright mental. Oga don't go beyond what is reasonable just so your woman would have bragging rights before neighbours. It's not your fault that she doesn't know or care what is truly more important.

A lady who would be upset because the husband didn't waste more money to feed outsiders who really don't give a damn about the baby, would have no problem calling you useless man when you start struggling to provide for daily meals. She might even jump ship as many women have done in the past.

Be wise, man.

That's what I am driving at, if we are to say that all the S20s are flagships, we may have a problem. The reason is that, though all the phones have the same sd865 processor similarities start coming in, camera, display resolution, and such variations. I think the problem isn't with how we use English but the manufacturers of phones, and their attempts to make as much sales as possible from as many as possible
hmmm... Yeah, agreed. I get your point.

Nah, you still don't get my point. The Webster screenshot I sent earlier you didn't get past the first part of the definition.

Seems things get lost in translation with all the back and forth debate. Take a look at your Paddy's screenshot and what I stated earlier?

These are all marketing terms to justify the various segments of customer needs. It's not cast on stone that a flagship must be a single device.

Stay safe man, over and out.
let's agree to disagree. Cheers.

This argument is mad sha lol

Personally, from what I've read. There's a Flagship range or grade of the best phones that an OEM produces, but there can only be one Flagship at a time or one flagship for a product range or line depending on the OEM

Several phones may belong to this grade but not all of them are flagships even if they carry a flagship grade processor.
exactly

IKON360:
Actually from what you have said, there is a lot of sense to it. Look at Xiaomi's offerings for the year, MI 10 and Mi 10 pro are not the same. One is obviously better than the other though both use "flagship processors" but everything isn't flagship in them, for one thing according to techtablets Mi 10 pro has a better screen, faster charging, better camera offerings and a few other features that distinguish it from the vanilla Mi 10. The first thing they share in common to support the flagship description according to madam Fibonacci is the processor, aside that we can't say Mi 10 is the flagship na?
Also consider that the same flagship processor is in K30pro but the K30pro doesn't have some features that the Mi 10 has which also lacks some features that the Mi 10 pro has. In essence, following the strict definition of flagship, the Xiaomi flagship is the Mi 10pro cos it has top of the line tech without any compromises, unlike the Mi 10 and the K30pro.
So I believe it all boils down to one question, what needs to exist for a phone or phones to be called flagship? If only one phone has it and others from the same OEM don't, that means only one phone is the flagship, not all of the phones launched by that OEM
when you say flagship processor, what do you have in mind?

'Processor in a flagship phone'?

Just like phone OEMs, makers of SoCs also have their 'best'. The SD 865 is currently the Snapdragon flagship processor. Its presence in a phone isn't what makes the phone flagship. It's more of that device's rank amongst other devices by the same OEM.

Yes, Mi 10 pro is currently Xiaomi's flagship. It has the highest overall quality/value in any Xiaomi phone.

True, OEM marketers have been throwing up fancy words to push their sales thereby confusing consumers.

But let's not debate just for the sake of it. The word "flagship" is a naval/military word which implies the ship carrying the Commander in a naval fleet or group of ships flying his flag. This can also be used to correlate the meaning when used on a product or range of products.

With these few points of mine I hope I've been able to prove to you that a flagship is not necessarily a single item of a product released within a product's life cycle? grin
lol. Your screenshot actually refers to just one ship. Read it properly.

There is ONE ship carrying the commander and his flag. Now the commander could be in charge of a fleet or a subdivision of a fleet. The subdivision isn't an alternate meaning of the flagship, but defines an alternate scope of the commander's authority.

Lemme rest sha, since people see every argument as bickering even if it's a way we learn.

That word high-end was created by OEM marketers with respect to market segmentation. The flagship itself is a high-end device.

Just like social stratification, device categories are mainly split into 3;
entry level ->mid range->high end etc Along the line subcategories were created within these 3 categories.

Don't let fancy marketing words throw you off.
They don't mean the exact same thing bro. Not every high-end device is a flagship.

Not sure why this is even an argument.

I don't think Samsung follows this rule since they released the Note series. We both know they max out the top S series and Note series of every given year so you can't really say it's just 1 flagship device per year.

Other OEMs too have long abandoned the idea of a sole flagship per year.
it's not really something an OEM decides/abandons though. It's like saying parents have abandoned the idea of a sole 'first born'. Even if they are twins/triplets, one comes first.

Popular usage of the term has somewhat broadened to include just about any premium or high-end device, even if that's not what it really means.

I don't know how I can explain to y'all that a company can have more than one flagship device at the same time. Quoting the literal meaning of flagship from the dictionary doesn't always apply to phones.

The S and note series have always been known as the flagship devices for Samsung. Can you tentatively say the s20 ultra is better than the s20,s20+ in all ways or that the mi 10 pro beats the mi 10 in all areas too? OEMs produce flagship devices tailored for different people.
'high-end' != 'flagship'

You are talking about high-end devices but it's okay though, we can agree to disagree. The subject isn't worth the argument.
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Bahddo(m): 12:45pm On May 11, 2020
fibonacci2526:
Oga the s20,s20+ and s20 ultra are Samsung flagship phones of the year for now. Which one is the ultra is the "real flagship phone"? That statement is very untrue. What makes the s20 ultra the real flagship? Size, battery capacity, camera or the charging technology? In the grand scheme of things, not everyone cares for a 6.9" device, some people still love the small form factor.

I totally disagree with your definition of a flagship smartphone by an OEMs. Totally bizarre that you think an OEM would have only one "flagship" phone for the year.
well, technically he's right. Flagship is THE BEST from an OEM, the leading phone in terms of features and quality same way a literal flag ship is a side's main or most important ship in naval warfare.

When a new set of phones are released by the OEM with better specs, the new 'best one' becomes THE flagship, and the former is relegated to terms like 'last year flagship'.

There's technically only one flagship at any time, and although many people interchange 'flagship' with 'high-end' or premium', they don't mean the exact same thing.

bro you sound like someone who resists feedback a lot. Even the ones that sound negative, unfair or even harsh can go a long way in helping you see room for improvement.

How can you simply brush aside the fact that people are complaining, by saying it's just 10 out of many? Is it that the10 don't matter, or they didn't pay you?

There are business people on this same Nairaland who had complaints about them on the forum, but people stood to defend them in their absence. That's the power of a legacy.

Work on your customer relations, man. One of the best things a business and even a person can have is people who would advocate for them behind their backs in a room full of opportunities.

Make it right with that lady. With the right attitude and actions, you can even convert your biggest critics to your promoters.

That's why other brand complains of this thread being hostile cos no matter what you guys would rush out in millions to discredit any critism. Truth is note 8 is living no where near to expectation. Maybe my own personal expectation tho. The way xaiomi chun out phones in a zig zag manner is annoying. You make 8 note successor of note 7, but note 7 is better, you make max 2 successor of max 1, but max 1 is better, you make note 6, but there is no difference in processing ability with note 5. Like wtf is that reterdiation or what? All you guys would use to justify these is the price tag which in the end is like robbing you Peter to give you Paul. They give you low price but make you suffer for essential things without you realising. I know it had still be worth it and the brand is good. But the overhype abeg e too much. You guys made Samsung, oppo, umigidi look thrash just to praise xiaomi. While in reality xaiomi has long way to go to catch up Samsung. That's the bitter truth you guys wouldn't accept.
