Apply the same logic to chipsets.

You don't go about asking if a flagship chipset supports quick charge, you don't even bother to check specs if it supports it and Snapdragon does not even use it as it's selling point because by default it should.

But when you use quick charge as a selling point for a midrange SoC and at the end the phone ends up only fast charging, people will ask questions and seek for solutions.

I don agree na. Let all those who use the Redmi Note 8 (for example) flash custom ROM to find out if their device is truly more powerful than the Redmi 8 or 8a. Custom ROM is the one true benchmark for phone/SoC performance.

It was on Qualcomm website. But it wasn't working on the phone, and no official comment by Xiaomi during and after the phone launch. Remember this was a phone that broke the Indian market.

Some Indians on gsmarena even said Xiaomi lied about the processor just to gain market in India.

Xiaomi had a choice of keeping the cost down or paying extra bucks for QC. They choice the former and it paid off.

crap. Anyone with internet access can pretty much see what their phone's SoC is capable of, from detailed specifications. Those who cook custom ROM can do so because they ALREADY KNOW the hardware has the capability to support a desired functionality.

Custom ROM doesn't not help you find out anything you cannot find out without it, unless of course you don't bother finding out stuff. You won't ever DISCOVER that your midrange device is actually a high-end device because you flashed custom ROM. Custom ROMS do not determine how powerful your device/chipset is, much less being 'the way to truly find out' as the other dude claimed.

You don't need to flash custom ROM into the Samsung Galaxy S20 to know that it's faaaaaaaar better than the Infinix Note 7.

They are enjoying too much of a monopoly right now because Mediatek hasn't really competed with them in the past. It's a whole new ball game now and we may have the Intel Vs AMD situation.

In the instance you just described, it is Antutu that is the benchmark, helping you measure performance by simulating usage. Custom ROM can help optimize your phone (or even worsen performance), but it does not help you CHECK if your phone is powerful/weak. Flashing ROM is not a performance benchmark!

You have an anti-MTK bias? It's valid. Many also do. However, don't make unsound arguments for the sake of arguing. It's tiring.

That's the last I'd say on this. Can't be in an argument where the other party doesn't even understand what he is arguing for or what I'm arguing against.

Not sure why you think you are making the same argument as he was. Apples and oranges. Also not sure why you think it makes sense to use the Antutu Benchmark to prove that flashing ROM is a benchmark for determining phone/chipset power.

the Dimensity 820 performance is also only surpassed by 855, 855+ and 865 in the SD lineup, according to Antutu.

Remains to be seen what it can truly do in a device though. Let's hope they aren't cheating again.

been there, done that. There was a time I was obsessed with trying out different custom ROMs, changing fonts (it wasn't as straightforward in many devices as it is today) and I believed (and even used to brag) that I can't ever use an unrooted phone again.

Custom ROMs have their advantages, for those who are interested. However, it was not, is not, and will never be a benchmark for determining if your phone/chipset is powerful or not. If you want to know that, subject it to 'real load' and see how it performs.

Everyone has his/her preferences but to me there are 2 main people about gadgets
One will ask you how many megapixels do your phone have or runs straight to the camera to take a picture
