EducationBalancing Theories With Practicals In Your Academics by bakingsoda(op): 11:45am On Jan 07, 2016
It may interest you that in Nigeria, you can find a final year Mechanical Engineering student, who cannot drive a car. When you cannot drive, how would you effectively fix a faulty car? A girl is offered admission to the university at age 16. At 20, she is a final year student. As a mechanical engineering student, she can easily solve all the mathematics in the world; but cannot do anything behind a steering wheel. Why? She has limited herself to only theoretical studies.

You can also find a Theater Arts student who is too shy to stand before a camera, let alone act. When you ask him, you discover that he has never drafted a play/script and does not have any plan to do so. But check his CGPA and you will discover that he is one of the brightest students in his class.

You will find students like these in almost every department. It is a good thing to always get high scores when you put pen to paper; but in the world we are in today, brilliant practical skills are strongly recommended for anyone who intends to break through. So being sound at theories is not enough for you. And frankly, your school cannot offer you everything you need, your internship is not enough. So as a student who wants to succeed in the labor/professional world, balancing your theories with practical should be a stringent part of your priorities.

What do you do in your free time, especially during your holidays? You can learn a vocation or get a part-time job in your field of study, during your break. Today, many companies are not willing to employ graduates with vague work or practical experience. Use your free time wisely; practice what you are taught in school.

If you are unable to get a job, you can apply to be a trainee or an assistant at an institution that practices works related to your field. It’s not all about money; you need well-grounded practical knowledge. Money will come later. For example, a mechanical engineering student can apply at a mechanic’s workshop to be an apprentice. Doing this will put you a step ahead of your peers, and make you cope with the demands of the real world when you eventually leave school.

FamilyRaising Responsible Children by bakingsoda(op): 11:17am On Jan 06, 2016
Raising kids can be a very daunting task, especially for new mothers. But the joy of being a mother keeps one going. Scaling through the hurdle of childbirth, and eventually transforming into a healthy mother is indeed an enviable achievement.

However, as the woman is welcomed into motherhood, she is welcomed as well into responsibilities. And the responsibilities get bigger, as she mothers more children. But the joyful fact is that, the enervating task of raising kids will eventually transform into pride and confidence for the parents, when the kids grow up to become responsible children.
Every parent wishes to have responsible children, but are you ready to offer it all it takes to raise responsible kids? What does it take?

Be friends to your kids
Don’t just make them your kids, make them your friends. In this way, they can confide in you. They tell you how they feel every time, and you also can trust them, because they have nothing to hide from you.

Be disciplined, but not too harsh
Discipline is very important, if you want to raise responsible children. But this doesn’t mean you should always scold them or beat them up at their very slightest mistake. However, kids are kids; they need correction. Rebuke every bad attitude from them promptly, and don’t be hesitant to adore them with praises whenever they do commendable things.

Be a good role model
If you go about sleeping with many sexual partners or spending half of the day gossiping, don’t expect your kids to become monks or reserved. Also, if you are the type that steals from your spouse, don’t start raising the rod any day you discover that one of your children has stolen your money. You are their role model, they look up to you.

Listen to them
Don’t scold them whenever they want to talk to you. Pay attention to them; they need it. Almost every child is garrulous, but you should always listen.

Finally, always address your children in a positive and gentle manner. Not matter how much they infuriate you, don’t address them, using repulsive or vulgar words. Instead of cursing them, pray for them!

HealthFour Ways To Overcome Smoking Addiction Without Spending A Dime by bakingsoda(op): 10:38am On Jan 05, 2016
You have heard that smokers are liable to die young, but you still continue to smoke because you find it hard to resist the urge. Your doctor has warned you to quit smoking. Your spouse and family have warned you. You wish you could. You have made up your mind on several occasions to quit smoking. Perhaps you actually stopped for a week or more, but you find yourself back at your vomit. Here are some practical steps you can apply, if you genuinely intend to quit smoking.

Whenever the urge comes, remind yourself of its hazards
Smoking puts you at a big risk of lung diseases. Tobacco smoke contains many harmful chemicals that can affect nearly every organ in your body. Smokers are at a big risk of coronary heart diseases, stroke, cancer and so on. Smoking can make it harder for a woman to become pregnant and can affect her baby’s health after birth. There are several other effects of smoking. If you fall ill, and are admitted to a hospital, will you be able to smoke? How do you want your loved ones to feel, if something bad happens to you as a result of your smoking habit? Remind yourself of all of these whenever the urge to smoke comes, and you are a step away from the stick.

Don’t keep a stick at your home or workplace
Don’t keep a stick anywhere you spend a long time staying at; so when the urge to smoke comes, you don’t find anyone near you. Focus on your driving or your destination whenever you are on the street, and don’t stop to buy any.

Make idleness your enemy
When you are idle, the thought of smoking comes to your mind. Engage in a workout or start typing on a computer. You can as well get an interesting movie or video game, all in a bid to suppress your idleness.

Keep non-smokers as friends
Engage non-smokers who can help you overcome the urge to smoke. Always talk to your doctor or psychologist about the progress you are making. And if feasible, relocate to a community where smoking is banned. Also, bear in mind that, your final target is not to 'punish' yourself or quit smoking temporarily, but to get to a stage when you can see sticks of cigarettes and be firm not to touch any.

It is possible to overcome your addiction to smoking. Be resolute!

HealthThe Importance Of Regular Medical Screening by bakingsoda(op): 9:46am On Jan 04, 2016
Today, one grave mistake people make about their health is that they wait until they fall ill before they visit a hospital. Some even wait till symptoms of an illness become evident in them before they visit a hospital for screening.

Normally, even when you do not experience any symptoms of illness, you should regularly go to a hospital to check yourself; you never can tell, there might be something wrong somewhere in your system, without your knowledge. Don’t wait until symptoms start showing; at least, visit a hospital for blood test and pulse rate calculation, monthly. Remember, the heart is the body’s most vital organ.

There are many silent-killer diseases like hypertension and cardiovascular diseases in general. Majority of these diseases only get unraveled at autopsy. At times, you just hear that a man suddenly slumped and died, just like that! Monitor your health to know if there’s a problem so that treatments can begin early enough. The earlier, the better!

One major advantage of going for medical screening, even when you experience no visible symptoms of illness, is that; there are some diseases that could be successfully treated and well-managed, if diagnosed at a very early stage. An example is cervical cancer. This is a cancer that affects women. It occurs when abnormal cells in the cervix grow out of control.

The major cause of cervical cancer is the HPV (Human Papillomavirus). It is said that most adults have been infected with HPV at some time. Although the infection can go away on its own, it can also cause genital warts and lead to cervical cancer. It takes time before symptoms start showing, so you see why you should go for screening?

There are so many men who have diabetes or prostate cancer, but are not aware because it is still at a very early stage. When it gets worse, it becomes very difficult to manage; hence the patient suffers and spends more.

For anything in life; the earlier, the better! Go to a hospital for screening, even when you experience no apparent symptoms of illness. Make it a routine - maybe every three months; you visit a hospital for screening. Prevention is better and cheaper than cure!

Nairaland GeneralHave You Ever Wondered Who You Really Are by bakingsoda(op): 8:41pm On Jan 03, 2016
I am not talking about your name or what people around you tell you about yourself. This is not even about what you think of yourself based on your experiences, popular beliefs, or imaginations. It is based on the things you do that would make you recognize your fears, strengths, weakness and hopes as an individual and how to deal with these factors whenever they confront us.

Several times, people refer to events around the world in a manner that makes me wonder if we have more than one world . They pass judgment, they criticize wrongly, and desperately grope at excuses to justify their own wrong doings. However, I have also realized that it is not intentional for people to behave this way, instead, it is an outcome of self righteousness and an assumption of having discovered who they are.

In the quest to find out who we are, we have listened to opinions about us from others, pondered on our experiences and the events we witnessed, all within a defined environment and a given space of time. It would of course be wrong to give ourselves a static identity based on our findings from the aformentioned activities. What would be right is to keep finding answers and keep evolving, as you drop your unfavorable habits and imbibe new ones along the way.

Conclusively, thinking you know yourself does little to develop you for a long period of time, as you may tend to lose interest in the quest for continuous exploration of your environment and events. This can make you oblivious to the fact that as long as you are alive, you remain a work in progress.

In my next articles, I will show you how you can keep a balanced track of what you become as you encounter life in an ever changing world.

FashionLadies! Looking Good Is Also Decent by bakingsoda(op): 1:51pm On Jan 03, 2016
We all want to look good and get compliments for our looks, no doubt. At least, we all want people to notice us when we are on amazing outfits. For young ladies, looking good and getting nice compliments from the guys is a plus. Little wonder when a lady knows that she is exceptionally attractive on a particular day, she takes a ‘selfie’ and uploads it on Instagram or Facebook. When Likes and Comments such as, ‘’pretty!’’ ‘’aww, I like your dress,’’ ‘’baby, you are so charming,’’ and so on, starts coming in, she gets super delighted.

On the other hand, when a lady observes that she hasn’t been getting any compliments for her looks, she becomes worried and starts thinking something is wrong somewhere. She gradually becomes tempted to start wearing excess make-up. After some time when no significant progress is made, she starts wearing outfits that reveal some curvaceous parts of her body.

As much as wearing make-up isn’t a bad idea, an excess of it can be disastrous. And you don’t need to expose your body by wearing see-through dresses, before your beauty is noticed. As a matter of fact, exposing some parts of your body is offensive to some people; so you might just end up hitting the very opposite of your target.

There are ways in which you can maintain a perceptible beauty, while your decency is still very much intact.

Wear a friendly smile always
Seriously, smiles are attractive. When you smile always, everyone tends to like you and notice your looks, especially whenever there’s a difference in your appearance. And if you’re blessed with a set of dazzling white teeth and your buccal cavity is not odorous, awww!

Keep a good attitude
Your good attitude will attract people to you more than your appearance. Don’t be too harsh at people. Greet and respond to greetings. Don’t ignore or underestimate people’s affection for you.

Take care of your skin
Take care of your skin by drinking plenty of water, bathing at least twice daily. Also, always have a handkerchief with you whenever you are at work, should in case, you sweat.

HealthHow Much Water Do You Consume Daily by bakingsoda(op): 9:27am On Jan 02, 2016
There is a saying in the medical world that, ‘’drink a lot of water and the doctor is out of the way". Water is life. It is possible for a man to live for several days without food but one cannot exceed eleven days without water. We all know that water is important, but do we actually consume enough water?

Apart from the known fact that rehydration makes our skin look good, it also helps our kidneys to function better, as higher volumes of water intake increases the volume of water passing through the kidneys, which can help to prevent kidney stones.

Water can also help to prevent constipation amidst several other health benefits. Don’t just drink water, drink plenty of water. Medical experts recommend that an average adult consumes about eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Do you consume up to that? Start today. Health is wealth!

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Two Job Offers Can't Decide To Pick One Pls Help!!!! by bakingsoda: 7:52pm On Dec 27, 2015
chiclas28:
Good evening people, after numerous interviews and tests after my service year march 2015. I give God the glory for this offer to work as an intern secretary in a computer software in yaba and also to work as a economics teacher in an a level cambridge school in festac. i stay in festac and the salary for both is 30k. i am to resume next year. pls help me pick wisely.thank you.
Intern secretary?? Sorry, that's a joke.

What area of secretaryship please?
Legal? Corporate? Or company secretary?

I may be wrong but let me assume the company does not want to pay higher than 30k for a secretary that's why they called it intern secretary. If it does not fall on any of the categories I listed above please don't work yourself off for 30k because there is nothing like intern secretary unless you are specializing. You are a graduate.

I would advise you take the one at festac because of proximity and the work you will be doing there. Your call though. Best wishes.

BusinessThe Importance Of Alternative Dispute Resolution In Conflict Resolution by bakingsoda(op): 1:29am On Dec 27, 2015
The Alternative Dispute Resolution programme was set up for the resolution of issues outside the court due to the expensive cost of litigation and the amount of time spent on trials among other unfavorabe situations that do not usually suit the smooth flow of justice. The Alternative Dispute Resolution process takes place in court premises but not necessarily inside a courtroom and in some provided locations such as the local government or community development area offices.

Section 19(d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 allows the settlement of disputes by arbitration, mediation, facilitation, negotiation, and adjudication; all of which are the processes of the Alternative Dispute Resolution. Others are collaborative family law, expert determination, mini-trial, etc. Here are ways that some of the aforementioned processes of the ADR can be employed in the resolution of conflicts without going to trial or spending money on litigation.

Mediation
In meditation, a Mediator is appointed, not to ncessarily settle the coflict, but to help the parties improve their communication and settle the conflict themselves. If the parties fails to reach an agreement with mediation, the non resolved issues or the entire issues are submitted to be arbitrated. This takes us to the arbitration process.

Arbitration
In Arbitration, an arbitrator decides the dispute after hearing from the disputing parties. Arbitration is either binding or non binding. Binding, when the parties agree to accept the arbitrator's decision as final without appeal and non binding when the parties may go into trial if they do not accet the arbitrator's decision. When going into a contract, some parties do indicate to settle issues that may arise during the contract with the arbitration process.

Collaborative Law
The collaborative law is mostly applicable in divorce cases. It gives room for peaceful end to a marriage and a protective representative of the parties. It allows for divorce without having to go through trials in the court.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution is generally cost effective and it saves a lot of time compared to court trials. Other advantage of going the Alternative Dispute Resolution way is privacy, simplicity and the greatest of all is that the parties are able to bear their reservations, grievances, or the shortcomings of one another to the neutral third parties, in so doing, a more peaceful and favourable resolution is usually reached.

RomanceRe: Pls Advice Me,we Are Both Introverts by bakingsoda: 11:05pm On Dec 26, 2015
aly123:
Hello Nlanders,i need your advice as am in a confused state of mind. I have a guy who loves me so much that I wonder if I could ever get such love from anybody else again and I also love him as well but the issue I have with this guy is that I am an introvert and he is also one. Prior to meeting him,i had always wanted a guy that is outspoken, bold nd courageous but on the contrary, my guy is a very shy person (more than I am), not bold, cant face a crowd which I also can't do which makes me wonder what happens if either of us is to do something of such in future amongst other things. Please I would like to know if introvert/introvert relationships work. Please matured minds or married ones here who has been in this situation should let me know how they dealt with it.
Cc : lalasticlala
All that you described do not really mean introversion. Introverts talk only when it is necessary, introverts are bold and courageous. About facing a crowd, introverts can face a crowd but only to discuss topics they are really interested in, although it may be awkward at the beginning. Visit quietrev.com for enlightment. Goodluck to you.
HealthSimple ways to stay healthy while you enjoy the holidays by bakingsoda(op):
The holiday period is a time of merriment, visitations, and lazy indulgence. You might get carried away easily and forget some of your daily routines in staying healthy. Also, due to being at home all day, you may be tempted to eat outside of your diet or even eat beyond your daily moderation if you were to be at work.

Follow these simple tips to help you stay healthy while you enjoy the holidays.

Drink plenty of water
Drinking plenty of water is very important to your health. As you eat varieties during the holidays, be it desserts, snacks, beverages, you should also drink plenty of water to cleanse your system and expel excesses.

Water increases the rate of metabolism; the process by which your body converts the food you consume into energy. Drinking plenty of water will also keep you hydrated giving you a glowing skin and increased mental alertness.

Drinking enough water will also keep you and help you avoid eating g too much. Water is always a good substitute for soda and not too healthy beverages.

Workout
During the workdays, you perform some exercises involuntarily – from moving from one section of the office to another, to going up and down the stairs, among several activities that amount to exercise. You should also remember to workout during the holidays too, so that you don’t gain weight and become lazy.

You don’t have to do anything rigorous; strolling, jogging, cycling, or running around your neighbourhood for ten minutes a day can help you stay fit and healthy during the holidays.

Indulge in moderation
You don’t have to give up some foods for you to stay healthy. You only need to eat the amount of food that your body really needs. Also, consider eating in small portions by following up a main meal with fruits or vegetables in case you are not satisfied. As the saying goes, too much of everything is bad.

Happy holidays!!

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Please, Can Someone Help Me And Review My CV? by bakingsoda: 10:03am On Dec 20, 2015
Tip 1: Make it simple
Avoid unnecessary grammar, too much formatting and inclusion of unnecessary information such as the color of your eyes, your best food. Such information is only necessary if you are going for a beauty contest or similar events, in which case you would be given a personal history form to fill.

Tip 2: Display more of your skills than your work experience

This is relevant mostly to job hoppers. Instead of making a list of all your work experiences, you may display two or three of your experiences that are similar to the post you are applying for on the particular CV you are to send to the employer. You may then convert the duties performed at your other jobs (the jobs not displayed on the particular CV) to skills and display them under the skills section of your CV.

The essence of doing this includes but not limited to: not coming across the employer as a job hopper. Some employers view job hopping as a negative career attitude and this may truncate your chance of getting interviewed if the employer in that organisation falls into this category; having a short CV that is filled with information relevant to the job you are applying for, thereby making the employer go through the length of your CV if they like what they see; displaying more skills than work experience on your CV presents you as a versatile individual.

Tip 3: Use a simple layout
I have seen CVs displayed like maps or even worse. A badly designed CV makes it difficult for the employer to go through your CV and this may cause your CV to be trashed even though the content is rich.

In addition, it is important to go through your CV from time to time; this would assist you in identifying any of your skill areas you may need to improve on.

BusinessWhen Should You Outsource by bakingsoda(op): 1:04pm On Dec 14, 2015
Imagine Diageo getting ready for a major media ad campaign. They are recruiting casts for the footage. Several auditions are being held. Meetings are being held on budgetary management. Locations are being visited, and then the scripts must be written. Now, slow down a bit! Diageo is not in the business of staging media ad campaign, but they need the ad campaign to drive their sales and remain branded in the mind of the consumers.

Diageo needs to outsource the media ad campaigns in order to focus on their core business process, which is production of liquor.

You need to constantly appraise your business processes and eliminate support processes that constitute major projects and might distract you from your core business processes. As a rule of thumb, such support processes must be outsourced.

The process of outsourcing delivers the benefits that come with specialisation and the theory of comparative advantage. Focusing on your core business and outsourcing the support processes, when managed effectively, increase your company’s performance and revenue.

Another case for outsourcing is in the area of ‘temporary processes.’ If a business process recurs only once in a while, there is no need to purchase equipment and hire staff for such process, when you can always outsource. This way, you will avoid the cost of recruiting and keeping personnel and other operational resources that function only occasionally.

By outsourcing, you transfer the risks of a process, totally or partially, from your company to the outsourced firm. So who says you cannot eat your cake and have it? At least not when you outsource your business processes.

BusinessReasons To Ditch ‘perfectionism’ In The Production Process by bakingsoda(op): 10:11am On Dec 14, 2015
This is in no way an argument for sloppy production. No! Not in the least! But most times in the production process, we focus on developing a ‘perfect product’ and would not settle for ‘good enough.’ This process could take months and then months turn into years, still we would fail to show our products in whatever state of quality they are to the people that will have a say about the prospects of the products, the customers.

As professionals, we are trained to always deliver the best quality possible and quality today means reliability, design, ease of use, aesthetic appeal, convenience and a lot more. But think about it - if you do not know who the customer is, you do not know what quality is. This should make Eric Ries’ idea of ‘iterative product’ more appealing than a ‘perfect product.’ Yes, this is another chunk from the robust ‘lean startup’ methodologies.

Perfect product is a farce; none exists. But an iterative product is one, which, starting with an MVP (Minimum Viable Product), goes through an ‘experimental journey’ with you, and which evolves along with the taste of the consumers.

The MVP is a version of your product that enables you to collect the maximum amount of ‘validated learning’ with least effort. It introduces a different form of dynamism to product development. To get the best out of your MVP, prepare a list of hypotheses, questions to be answered by the feedback from the early adopters once the product is released into market.

The following are clues:

What will the customer care about? How will they define quality? Is the product being patronized by the hypothetical target market? What are the put-offs of the product? Is the product appropriately priced?

This will keep you ahead of competitors who are possibly waiting to perfect their product or improve it beyond yours. Google map is a good example of this.

What do you think about ditching perfectionism in production process? Follow us on Twitter @Excellaid and share your thoughts with #TweetChatExcellaid in your tweet.

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Write A CV That Will Not Suck & Will Get You An Interview. At Least. by bakingsoda(op): 4:14pm On Dec 07, 2015
Through the years of a career journey I met many talented people and skilled candidates, who were doing the best to get their positions. However, I met tons of freaks who were doing the same. Not to insult anyone, but that’s a reality. Every time you need to hire somebody: is it marketing manager, personal assistant, creative team, a sales guy or an accountant — you get hundreds of CVs that, honestly, suck.

> Originally posted on my Medium blog. <

I mean literally, they are so bad or so off-topic, that you don’t even want to read them. And you don’t. sure, there are many good picks, but let’s talk not about them.

You decided to make your CV? Ok, good start.
You went through all those online posts from famous influencers like “How to write perfect CV”, “How to get an interview”, “10 tips for best CV” and so on… You googled some “free CV templates” or even “best paid resume templates”. Good job! You just wasted your time on some research which will never bring you anything new.

CV templates.
If you decided to go with a template and just fill in your details, that can work for some positions. But how about individuality? If I receive two CVs which are done on a same CV template, I simply don’t look on them and take next ones in my hands. Even you are a great talent and I definitely need to hire you, will I know it if your CV is just copy/paste of someone's creativity? I guess no.

Please don’t use templates. Show me that you worked on your CV at least a little bit. Ok, at least change colors of template.

Actually, many of you will not agree with what I said above, but many will. Using a template for CV can save bunch of time, and get you a job position you dreamed about. It really can, if the content is relevant.

Relevance.
It’s all about who you are and why you apply for a position. I seen hundreds of CVs where my first question to an author was “so what are you good at?”

Make sure that your CV is straightforward and represents best qualities of you to a current position. Stop being lazy and spend some time on tweaking your resume to position which you apply to. If I see “Looking for a role in marketing or sales” in a CV for a senior position, I’m asking one thing: “Did you know that marketing is not sales and sales is not marketing?” Lack of relevance can lead you to nothing and, even if you are a master in both areas of expertise, HR manager will simply pass your profile and go to a candidate with better focus on offered position.

Including your key advantages and proven track of results is one of most important points. No HR wants to read blahblahblah in your 3 pages creative writings (it can work only if you apply to a writer’s position I guess). Be specific, include industry specific terms. But again, only if you understand the meaning of them. If not, better think to take another approach.

Keep it short and sharp.
I love one page CVs. Ok, sometimes two pages are necessary, but holly molly, don’t make it five pages.

Believe me, one page for CV is enough to show your key values if you are an expert in your industry. I can accept longer ony if that’s a junior position.

Go straight to a point. No one wants to know about your skills in typing if you apply to a position which will deal with advertising management. Same as no one cares if you worked as a waitress when you apply to a position of content marketer. Sounds rude, but that’s true. I care about what I look for, and wasting time on reading nonsense from a CV is making me to look on another one.

If you lie, be short.
Who never lied on a CV? Oh, c’mon! Everyone did. Don’t write too much about something that you never did. Remember, more you write, more questions you will get during the interview. And you don’t want to be in situation where you simply don’t know what to say.

Tell truth. Even if you have no experience. Show that you want to get it.

I was hiring people without experience at all, for their honesty and passion in a position. If you are ready to learn and want to learn, why not to give a chance to you? The question is if you take that chance and if you prove that my decision was not mistake.

Experience. Should you show all?
Let’s get back to a Relevance. Yes, you should include everything you think may keep you on top of other candidates, but make it short and relevant. Don’t include your college part time jobs which you were doing just to get some extra cash. Tell recruiter only what you think may be useful and something what he/she looks for.

Photo in a CV.
This is a tricky part. In some countries including a photo in CV is illegal, and also it is considered not professional in some places. Well, I can’t tell you to include your photo or not. Depends on a position. Sure if position is for a hostess or a model, a photo is must-have, but if not, then you should think twice. There are many discussions on this part and many pros and cons of having a photo in resume… I’m confused to advise. All what I can say, if you made a decision to place it, pleeeease, make it professional looking one and not a half-page size (believe me, I had CVs with full page photo in hands).

Contacts and Social Media accounts.
Don’t forget to include your phone number and email. This is a must have. Some do forget, trust me.

Including social media profiles can be a plus in only one situation, if your social media activity is relevant to your position. If it’s not, than better don’t. It can harm your reputation sometimes, when HR manager will open your Facebook and see naked tits with chocolate on them, and two your friends are licking them. And a comment “it was a great party”. Or a post which insults your previous/current employer in a rude and bad language way. I’m not making this up, I seen things like that from candidates on management positions smiley

Go and make it done.
If you think to much, means you have nothing to say. Just highlight all your key achievements, look back on your employment history and lay it down on a paper. Simply as sounds.

Take it easy and remember, it’s just a CV… But yes, it’s a first impression about you. Don’t forget about this.

Good luck with your CVs!

BusinessImportant Questions For Startups by bakingsoda(op):
To start your business, you are probably thinking about the practicability of your ideas; can your conceived product be produced with the available resources? But wait a minute!

Eric Ries, the proponent of ‘Lean startup,’ a methodology to help entrepreneurs grow their business fast, taking advantage of the nimbleness of startups, suggested that the most important questions are not about how realizable your ideas are. Rather, they focus on the desirability to consumers and the business potentials of the conceived product.

Should the product be built?
The ‘product-centric’ days are long gone. Now, the modern economy demands that startups produce what people want and will buy. To keep in business, entrepreneurs need to adjust to the taste, mood and needs of the consumers. So, the most important question is to determine whether your conceived product should be produced at all. If they will satisfy specific needs of consumers, maybe they should be produced.

Can a sustainable business be built around the product?
To complete the cycle of questions, you need to know if you can build a business around your product, and for how long. These questions may not be answered effectively without carefully designed market research. However, it is not necessary to deplete your fund conducting one. Ries suggested that one learns on the go with his Build-Measure-Learn tenets and the investigative development methods.

All you need do is come up with an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to be taken to market. Gather feedbacks from the early adopters and improve your product in line with the feedbacks. But complete indifference from consumers could be a pointer that your product should not have been produced initially.

A well applied ‘lean startup’ principle could help channel your resources in the right directions and minimise waste. Your product will also benefit from early adopters, who could later become your brand ambassadors.

FashionBlack Friday: Hacks For Being Among The Luckiest Shoppers by bakingsoda(op): 11:53pm On Nov 26, 2015
Another awoof* season is here and we cannot wait to pounce on the shopping malls to shop for various items of our choice. I am also on the queue. It is important not to get carried away in our excitement, as shopping at this time of the year poses some risks as well as benefits. Here are some tips that will help you get the most of Black Friday.

Be prepared for your shopping
You can accomplish this by having a list of the items you want to buy and the stores you plan to get them from. If you are shopping online, make sure your device is ready (well charged and working in perfect condition) and you have enough data to do your shopping. Also have your size, the color of the item, the brand and other necessary information that would speed up your shopping ready because Black Friday is a mad race for the fast ones.

Start your shopping early
Start shopping early as some of the items you may be interested in might be put on countdown timers. The earlier you start shopping, the better it is for you to get exactly what you want out of Black Friday.

Make yourself comfortable
If you are shopping offline, be careful not to be trapped in the crowd and also be vigilant. In fact, dress very smartly and hold your belongings close. For safety reasons, it is advisable not to take your little ones along if you are shopping from a store that would be over crowded on Black Friday. After shopping, there may be a long queue for payment, make yourself comfortable by finding someplace to sit while you wait for your turn, you may also pass time by playing games or listening to music on your mobile device.

Pay on delivery
The advantages of paying on delivery when shopping on Black Friday cannot be overemphasized especially if you are shopping online. One, if the item delivered is not satisfactory, you may simply reject the order and take your money to the offline malls for a better alternative; no time wasted. Another benefit is that the mad rush does not only occur on the buyers' side; there is a crazier rush on the online stores end as they will be working non stop and tirelessly to meet delivery deadlines. So for your order to get to you on time, you should start your shopping early as sales will rise extremely leading to an increase in orders to be delivered.

Be sure of the return policy before paying
For you not to be stuck with an item that you cannot make use of, make sure the items you are buying qualify for returns on the Returns Policy of the store you are shopping from.
